dandannieldanok Posted 17 November 2009 Posted 17 November 2009 Fooking Leicester Mercury.I posted on here about Leicester offering him a two and half year contract. What do they do? Read it on here and phone Leicester up for a quote. Today at work has been tense. They want someones head on a post, and its mine. Leicester Mercury if your reading this at least get in touch with me first before you risk my job. Maybe you could do some real reporting and find things out yourselfs? Can't blame Leicester Mercury , it's completely your own fault for posting confidential information on a public forum.
The Doctor Posted 17 November 2009 Posted 17 November 2009 Thanks. Great goal in the first link too, could never get bored of watching that. Oh, and Grenoble Foot Luigi Glombard did he ever actually make it onto the pitch with us?
Fox You Forest Posted 17 November 2009 Posted 17 November 2009 did he ever actually make it onto the pitch with us? He got 10 minutes in a game, maybe Cardiff. edit, nope that's where we had him from.
The Doctor Posted 17 November 2009 Posted 17 November 2009 He got 10 minutes in a game, maybe Cardiff.edit, nope that's where we had him from. bored so i did some research. he played the last 10 minutes at ipswich in a 2-0 win.
Sir Fynwy Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 I quite agree. This bloke is just a pain in the arse MOLE! So you'd rather have wild speculation with no background than some real information, sums up your average PCSO I guess.

Did they actually call them and say "this bloke Knowitall on FT says..."? FFS. I hope you don;t post at work.
StanSP Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 Any chance he'll play on Saturday?? Think he should be given a run out alongside Fryatt or Waghorn
Babylon Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 What a bunch of idiots. Did they actually call them and say "this bloke Knowitall on FT says..."? FFS. I hope you don;t post at work. It doesn't help that it gets put up on the pointless site that is vital football, which then gets picked up by news now and spreads the info. That being said, putting the info into the public domain will get you in trouble sooner or later.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 Why do you post on here Knowitall? Because you don't think the club are open enough with the fans, correct? Because you like to tell people what's going on within the club, correct? If you're going to post things on here, that is your prerogative. This is a public messageboard and it's information that anyone can then read and do as they wish with. If you are close to the club and you are disclosing things that they don't want people to know, then the buck stops with you, not the Mercury and I don't care how many of your worshippers slate me for that. Stop flinging mud at the Mercury when you are willingly creating the problem for yourself.

I think he was having a go at the mercury just reading forums for their information rather than doing any real journalism, we all know the mercury is second to last with any real information (the OS is always last).

What is "real journalism" though? Speaking to the club? They won't give the Merc the time of day. Speaking to sources and insiders? If so, what else is Knowitall but a source and insider? I probably shouldn't get involved but the post just annoyed me.

I'm not a journo and have no interest in the local rag but surely "real journalism" is going out and finding interesting, informative and engaging news stories for the target audience, something that seems almost totally lacking in local papers and increasingly in the nationals. People who regularly meet and talk to people at the club provide a hell of a lot of the interesting information that appears on this forum and plenty of others, if we are to be restricted to wild guesses, stupid polls, banal reports etc then I for one won't be interested.

Let's not lose sight of the fact this is one isolated occurrence of the Merc picking up on something posted on a messageboard, not their one way of reporting anything - despite the fact that they get no help from the club, whatever anyone thinks of that. People need to re-adjust how they view local newspapers though. In this day and age, anyone can post anything on the internet. Get a reputation and papers lose their insiders. They use one or two things that an insider makes available through a different channel and suddenly it's not real journalism.

Not print what he says for fear of outing him? Then how is he a source of information? The only person being naive, lazy and careless here does not work for the Mercury. I'm going to back out of this now. I sincerely hope Knowitall doesn't get in any trouble.

Exactly, it's not even used as chip paper anymore, local papers like the mercury are on their way out.

How can anyone disagree with this ^ ??, the Mercury have every right to come on here and take whatever information they like and publish it.

I don't think that was the point, the point was that the mockery didn't seek out the source of the information to confirm it like a real reporter would, FFS if they call the club about everything that gets put on here they'd need a permanent hotline.

Whats the alternative other than to completely stop printing LCFC stories? The club appears to reflect Pearson's own dislike and distrust of the media, so the Mercury can't get anything. They may not get insider scoops or print the most riveting stories, but there would be outrage if they stopped publishing stories altogether. The Mercury's only about 30p, what do people honestly expect?
Sly Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 Newspapers are a dying source of information as the news printed is in theory "old news". The demographic group a Newspaper now generally appeals to is those aged 50 and up. A demographic group that is getting smaller as the people on the upper age limit become deceased. The younger age range will mostly use the Internet for their primary source of information. Leicestershire used to have various smaller newspaper but these were all swolled up by the Mercury and now their circulation numbers are dropping to the point where they must be struggling to break even cost wise. I wouldn't exactly consider a newspaper of any kind a main source for advertising any type of product anymore.
Guest Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 Do the Merc actually single KIA and the forum out as their source of info? Apologies if I've missed this but I'd at least expect the Merc to corroborate from a seperate source what could be taken as idle speculation on one forum rather than taking it on face value and running with it. Ultimately I think most people on here appreciate what KIA does in getting this info and really hope that whatever has happened with regard to this doesn't jeopardise future info being relayed via FT.
Fosse Boy Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 Totally agree with Fez on this. Newspapers have to get their stories from somewhere and from what I know the club are very unhelpful to the Merc. Journalists can't be blamed for seeking out potential material from other sources if they can't get it straight from the horse's mouth.
Shrenchel Posted 18 November 2009 Posted 18 November 2009 Is anybody suprised?! The mercury is one of the worst local papers in the country and currently probably at its lowest ebb ever in terms of journalistic quality. There are wank books that have better investigative journalism going on. Bothering to steal something off a website that isn't the BBC shows quite a lot of initiative for that bunch of no-hopers.
