dandannieldanok Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Finally, someone who can score direct from free kicks. Can't remember the last time we had a player who was a proper threat from a free kick! 6 days ago at Bramhall Lane? Gradel at MK Dons?
maddog Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Would seem he takes a decent free-kick. Looks like a quality player. Another Tunchev quality like signing from NP could be on the cards.
Salieri Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 I normally try to avoid peeking at youtube footage of footballers, BUT i did have a butchers and he does look a bit tidy. Time will tell of course but i'm cautiously optimistic about this guy, hopefully he'll do well and earn a longer deal.
flanimal Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 6 days ago at Bramhall Lane? Gradel at MK Dons? The one at Bramall Lane wasn't direct was it? Oakley takes it, Fryatt scores. Didn't seem direct to me. And after watching every other free-kick on goal taken by Gradel, I wouldn't call him much of a threat.
Legend_in_blue Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 As long as he doesn't start taking corners, I won't get too alarmed.
flanimal Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 As long as he doesn't start taking corners, I won't get too alarmed. Kermorgant took corners for Reims, but he usually tried to score from them! Gallagher taking corners from the right, Kermorgant from the left... are there any strikers to, like, head the ball in?!
clare Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 There seems to be a lot of talk about this guy - hope he's another NP gem!
Guest Bilo Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Only time will tell whether this is a good signing. I imagine the Championship will be a higher standard than the French Ligue 2 so we may need to be patient with him. A freebie, probably not on a massive amount of wages is a low risk signing for us and could prove a masterstroke if he recreates his form in France on this side of the Channel. With Howard not getting any younger, Kermorgant may be considered a long term replacement.
Toby or not Toby Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Adds competition for places, hope he gets some game time tommorrow, and is able to earn a longer contract.
flanimal Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 I like Howard's playing style - wins everything airbound, strong, really a problem for a defender. But, Howard doesn't have the greatest footballing mind, and if the YouTube clips and the reserve game are anything to go on, Kermorgant seems to have the bit of cunning that could slice open the opposing team. Whenever Howard is there, it's too easy to play the long ball, we can play better than that, maybe Kermorgant can allow that. Or he might be poo.
Unabomber Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Can't seeing being too much of a gem if he has only been handed such a short contract. All the best to him though and I hope he takes his chance.
CosbehFox Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 It's a good idea being non-commited regardless of his ability. He might not settle or find the pace too much but at least we won't have an Allen/Holloway signing on the books for 3 years.
flanimal Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 At short contract hands the inititative to Kermorgant, though. He's going to have to play well to get the extension. Could be a good motivation tactic by Pearson and his team. It's more sensible anyway, Tunchev was a risk in a similar way never playing outside of Bulgarian leagues - but he had international experience so you knew he was quality. They're just playing it safe with Kermorgant, he may even be slightly injured. Who knows. One thing's for certain - if those free-kicks burst the net followed by a bicycle kick, the guy will have a contract pushed under his nose sharpish.

flanimal Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Yes, I am. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to try and sell Ibrahim Faye to Hull for £5m.
Vlad The Impaler Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 Do you think he'll play a part tommorow night? If he's as good as I am anticipating then I would hope for him to be fully fit for Newcastle if he already isn't. Am really looking forward to seeing one of those free kicks/bicycle kicks
Finnegan Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 All I'm gonna say is that this thread would've been locked ages ago if it wasn't a mod bickering. Cool your jets, Bert mate. It was him taking a pop at me. Rule of thumb, I generally don't delete posts that are slagging me off. Seems like a bit of a cheap way to moderate.
flanimal Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 He played in that reserve match, and I thought I read Oakley say he had been training with them. Either way, Preston and Newcastle are not nice easy starts in English football.

Atleast we'll see what he's capable of and wether he can compete against the best though.
ACF Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 Does that mean that all his opinions are completely irrelevant then??I think you can build a perfectly good account of a player on highlights, commentary and match reports alone, how else would foreign fans manage. The point he makes is a fair one, we dont know anything about him, and you still havent actually said which french player you were referring too? I get my opinions from 'ere.
The Doctor Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 Yes, I am.Now if you don't mind, I'm going to try and sell Ibrahim Faye to Hull for £5m. never going 2 work. no one signs for hull because they still do have some common sense.

When exactly was the last time you went to a game? Because from what I'm told, you are (majority of time) on here come kick off home and away. Anyway, I hadn't been on this site for a while, now know why...will stay away for a bit again.
James. Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 Quite excited by this chap. Some of those goals are beautiful.

You'd have a point if Finners didn't go to a fair number of home games with his dad. It all seems to have kicked off over not a lot really. I'll leave you two to it.
