davieG Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Gainsborough have appointed former Aston Villa, Leicester City and Wrexham boss Brian Little as their new manager on a two-year deal. Little, 55, succeeds Steve Charles who was dismissed by the Blue Square North club after four games of the season. Trinity chairman Peter Swann told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "When you think of the squad and the experience we've got, we needed a manager of that calibre. "Once I found out there was an interest we managed to work out a deal." Little spent his entire playing career with Aston Villa and won one full England cap as a substitute against Wales in 1975. His managerial career also includes spells with Darlington, Wolves, West Bromwich Albion and Tranmere. Little will begin work at the Northolme on September 7, with Trinity defender Adie Moses in caretaker charge in the interim period.
Unit Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Christ, is this just due to lack of work or does he like the club like Jim Smith at Oxford?
Guest Bilo Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 It started going wrong for him as soon as he left Villa with each managerial stint getting progressively worse. Not difficult to see how he has fallen so far given his track record in the past 10 years.
Tomassi Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Sounds like he wants to put something back into the game thats given him so much at a lower level, top bloke!
Jay Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Sounds like he wants to put something back into the game thats given him so much at a lower level, top bloke! I think you are maybe onto something I think towards the end at Villa it was obvious he was starting to crack and didn't really like the exposure or bad press seems to just like football and wants to be involved without the pressure so fair play to him if that's the case!
Tuna Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 Brian Little has been appointed as manager of GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY.
MPH Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 i still have his book ' on the crest of a wave' and thought it was a good book and was gutted when he left us... ah well. its amazing how the tide has turned...
Edmund Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 I was devastated when he moved to Villa along with Joachim and co.
Salieri Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Sounds like he wants to put something back into the game thats given him so much at a lower level, top bloke! He's not at such a low level by choice! He's there cos he's a shit manager.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Hope he does well. He almost hasnt got going again since Villa, I rated him so hope I wish him well.
davieG Posted 29 August 2009 Author Posted 29 August 2009 He's not at such a low level by choice! He's there cos he's a shit manager. That's extremely harsh for any Leicester City fan to say considering he dragged us from the edge of tier 3 and took us up to the Premier League, the top tier for the first time in 7 years.

Granted. But i'm basing what i said on his career to date, and post Aston Villa, it doesn't make for great reading.
l444ry Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 He's not at such a low level by choice! He's there cos he's a shit manager. Rubbish. All success is relative. At Stoke he started well enough to make them play-off contenders before their form petered out - hardly failure. At WBA he hardly ruined an already skint club. At Hull he virtually promoted the team before Molby fooked it up. At Tranmere he transformed relegation fodder into a play off team. I'll give you Wrexham. Never worked that one out myself.... All in all, he's a man who won't take shite from chairmen or unrealisted criticism from stupid fans. If he's guilty of anything it's his poor selection when joining a club - City excepted.

Stoke : The team looked nailed on for automatic promotion but bottled it bigtime and ended up not even making the Play Offs. FAIL. WBA : Sacked after just 8 months in charge. FAIL. Hull : Granted he seemed to be doing a good job there before his unexpected resignation. Tranmere : Promising start but after losing in the Play Offs, followed up the next season by only avoiding relegation on the final day. Left the club by mutual consent. FAIL. Wrexham : Relegated to Conference and performed poorly the season following. Left the club by mutual consent. FAIL. It doesn't matter how much you try to dress it up, that doesn't make for great reading. I've got nothing against the guy personally, he's always seemed like a pretty decent bloke BUT lets not kid ourselves that (after a promising early career) he's gone on to be anything other than a mediocre manager.
