morris1234 Posted 10 November 2009 Posted 10 November 2009 Not sure if this is the best place so mods move if appropriate. I have been reviewing our current package with Virgin and noticed new customers are charged only £14 for size L broadband, i called Virgin and was told tough. My mum had been told the same, robbing bastards! I then went through the Virgin website to review my package and i could change whichever parts i wanted and keep what i wanted. I stayed on size L but selected to go onto the £14 price saving me £11 a month and also got me a free netgear wireless router which is selling in the shops for £ 55. Hope this might save at least a few people money and even make some if they already have a router!

Ive just checked mine again and it still lets my change my package around. Have you gone in to the 'build your own bundle' section? - not wanting to patronise, just not sure why its different?
Matt Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 Anyone on Virgin Media? I currently have Sky TV/AOL Broadband, threatened to get rid of AOL a while ago because I kept having problems and it was rubbish service but the last year or so it's been ok on AOL not had a problem for a while, but been looking at changing from Sky/AOL and getting everything on Virgin Media (Broadband/TV/Phone). I'd be looking at the L (Up to 60mb) package, any good? Also is the TV on Virgin Media the same as Sky? Expect obviously you're playing Virgin Media? Quite abit cheaper having the Broadband/TV/Phone in one place rather than having AOL Broadband/Sky TV/BT Phone.

MooseBreath Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 I've had virgin media internet through a fibre optic line for a few years and don't have any complaints.
Matt Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 Never had a problem with Virginmedia broadband - their TV packages vary quite a bit from Sky though. Was thinking of getting the L TV package (123 Channels?) or XL (170 odd Channels?) - The XL does bump the price up quite abit though, having said that even with the XL it's cheaper than Sky/AOL/BT. Although I think I have ALOT more channels on Sky - Not that I watch half of them!
Saxondale Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 I've got Virgin and I'm very happy with the service, but I do think they're having my pants down on price now. I've been on the website before to look at changing my package and couldn't work out how. I shall have another go! I usually prefer to call up for things like this, but their call centres are bloody useless.
Haydos Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 We were on their 50mb package until they doubled it to 100mb recently. Now paying £37.50 (inc phone line) for 100mb and unlimited usage. No real complaints apart from them ****ing up the bills in the first few months. Got all the over-charges refunded though. Decent enough customer service.

Aye, staffed by people with next to no understanding of English - give them their due though, this is probably because it's their 2nd - 3rd language. My one complaint.

THEFATBASTARD Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 IMHO.. virgin are a bunch of robbing bastards..I was with them 9 years, had the new dongle that was rubbish ,they wouldn't let me cancel my contract..so had to pay for a service thats was usless for 10 months , then last christmas they text my mobile saying ....because of your loyalty we are giving you hundreds of extra minutes as a present..so I thought happy days..phoned all the family and used most of it up. then got my next bill... 157 quid.. they hadn't indicated in the text it was only to virgin network phones..i told them I was leaving cos I was conned..teling them... i thought i had been given a better deal...they say said as soon as i had paid the 157 quid I could have the new deal I thought i was on...I told them to fook off ..being ripped of,f then being told I could get the new deal was an insult...

Rincewind Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 Chatted to my brother about Virgin today. He thinbks I could get a better deal elsewhere and says £17 for the TV is a rip off. I also have MX Tel line and Broadband for around £30. I could reduce TV to just M then it would be £25. He also said I could fix the TV to an areal with a Freeview box then get a cheaper Broadband. Virgin told me that existing customers normally get the best deal. New customers get it cheaper for 6-12 months but then pay the higher price for 3 years. Ex customers are only on 1 year deals. I was going with Talk Talk until I found out my TV on its own would bump the price up to more than it is now. Not sorted or found out whether I can use the ariel. Also told some time ago that they do not mention the lowest TV size on the deals because its not so popular and they'd rather people have the dearer sizes. Dont know if mine is on a contract now. It takes a good chunk of my money every month. Even being a skinflint my bank balance is going down.
Ross-Kemp Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 I've just signed up with virgin. 60mb broadband (fibre optic), phone line with free weekend calls, one TiVo box (and a v+hd box) with everything except sky movies and free installation. £60 for 6 months then £88 thereafter, 18 month contract.
AoWW Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 I've had virgin media internet through a fibre optic line for a few years and don't have any complaints. If FT had a whip round do you think we could persuade Virgin Media to cut you off?
Foxhateram Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 Been with Virgin three times and have not got one good thing to say about them anymore. They have over charged us on many occasions and its taken ages to sort and the service was terrible. Our connection would drop out every half hour with there rubbish router and when more then one laptop connected to it the speed fell ridiculously low (due to the router not the line) on top of this when we cancelled our contract due to moving home (1 month left) They charged us £60 for disconnection and cancellation despite telling us that it would cost £15. I wrote to head office about the above and got a nasty reply back saying that I was lying, despite having the exact time of the call, the name and reference number of the employee and a saved mp3 of the conversation. Would not recommend them to anyone and strongly advise anyone to stay away. On top of that there prices are high compared to others and they are one of the only few companies left to still have foreign call centres. Disgrace!

Quite abit cheaper having the Broadband/TV/Phone in one place rather than having AOL Broadband/Sky TV/BT Phone. The main differences are you don't get Sky Atlantic on Virgin and to get Sky F1 you need to get the Sky Sports package. However, Virgin are better for additional boxes, TiVo, and getting HD channels for free (except Sky Sports and Movies, Sky charge VM for the HD on them). Oh, and you get ESPN free on XL VM TV. Also, check your PMs
Rincewind Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 I had the M+ for the Olympics. My bill was supposed to be less this month and it seems the same. I don't like change which is why I'm slow at getting my act together and finding a cheaper way. Even had the router delivered from Talk Talk after changing my mind. And if I got in touch with my brother and nephew they'd help. My nephew used to work in Comet a few years back and they both would know how to set things up. But I like my V Box. Going to reduce my TV size and ask why my bill has not gone down. If the answer is not good enough I will change. When I spoke to them They did say my bill could go to about £20 without their TV add on. The Broadband is the expensive part.
Monk Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 Had their cable broadband for 2 yrs and it's awesome. Now on phoneline broadband with them as I moved and it's crock of shite. Slow & cuts out all the time. Skype calls dropped, downloads cancel. Rubbish.
Rincewind Posted 2 September 2012 Posted 2 September 2012 My broadband is a bit slow but that could be all the crap thatson it. Change my Anti virus today. The one I had the license ran out so put AVG on which is free Was on Oset before. Paid for it but my PC still needs scanning and stuffremoving and I bet some viruses got through. Can't remember it telling me its stopped any nasty ones. Just kept saying no threats found.
