samlcfc Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 This man was in the news today. Wrongly diagnosed as being in a coma when his brain was actually functioning normally. He was actually paralised and they didnt realise for 23 years. Article Its hard to even contemplate how insane that is. Being awake for 23 years without anyone knowing. That must have been frustration on some crazy level.
Daggers Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 I hope that ash17nobcheese takes this thread as a message of hope for the future.

Houdini Logic Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 Just watched this on the news. I can't think of anything worse - living hell
Fosse Boy Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 thats what I was thinking, wasnt there a film made? I believe 'tallica actually had to buy the rights to that film so they could make the video.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 When I saw the headline for the story on another website I thought they meant he was pretending to be in a coma for 23 years. I mean, we all like a bit of me-time every now and then, but that would be going to extraordinary lengths to avoid talking to people about the X Factor and other blathering crap. It turns out I misunderstood
ramboacdc Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 the video you are on about is "one" not enter sandman they made a song about how bad it would be to be trapped in your own body and not being able to move then they found out about the film called "how johnny got his gun" which is the same concept so they bought the rights and made the video and re-released the film earlier this year. metallica nut me!

ozleicester Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 Come on lads its not music discussion bit of respect. ozleicester's feeble attempt to generate a metallica Vs the world series of posts similar to The Oasis are sh*t topics Its Metallica.. so no, its not a music discussion.
Edmund Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 Its hard to even contemplate how insane that is. Being awake for 23 years without anyone knowing. That must have been frustration on some crazy level. I still can't get my head round this. Feel so much for the man. On the subject has anyone had sleep paralysis before? Basically the same as what this man has but lasts a few seconds. I can remember last year one week I had it like twice, was fooking horrible. Your mind wakes up but your body is still asleep. I couldn't move or anything. Scary shit. That lasted for like two seconds but 23 years in that state would be hell. Hats off to the doctors who noticed he was still conscious.
potter3 Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 Hats off to the doctors who noticed he was still conscious. So long as they weren't the same ones that had neglected to notice for the past 23 years.
z-layrex Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 Im a nurse myself and I find it hard to understand having a patient for 23 years and think they were braindead... Poor bloke
Edmund Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 Im a nurse myself Do you bring the uniform home with you?
stez Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 Do you bring the uniform home with you? i hope not, i thought that was against the rules these days

z-layrex Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 i hope not, i thought that was against the rules these days No we go home in them, the nhs isnt going to wash them for us are they
stez Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 No we go home in them, the nhs isnt going to wash them for us are they i've been told that you're not allowed to wear them outside of work. An expert in this field I see apparently not
stez Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 i've been told that you're not allowed to wear them outside of work.apparently not Some trusts across England have already banned the wearing of uniforms outside work. i knew i'd heard it somewhere
z-layrex Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 No we go home in them, the nhs isnt going to wash them for us are they I guess it's different at every trust. I work in Brighton and there's no locker rooms on most wards so we can wear them home, but you're not supposed to go shopping in them or anything and you have to cover up.

This exact thing happened to me. Twice in a few days, never happened before or since. That was absolutely horrible, I can't even begin to comprehend what this guy went through.
