I really hate Monaco as a circuit, always produces an appalling race.

Especially without refuelling, turn 1 of the first lap will be the only time where anything happens.

I wouldn't call Hamilton's win in the wet in 2008 boring , or Trulli's win in 2004. Or even ...

Monaco 1982 , the best finish to a race ever !

Monaco with rain is always immense, I remember Panis winning here 15 years back in the wet when only four cars finished.

If it doesn't rain this weekend however, then I can only agree with NSLL's opinion that it would be dull as dishwater.

Felipe baby had an awesome qualifying.

Needs a good start though, and I think he'll get on the podium.

I predict that Alonso will still score points.

Massa fooked over Button! <_<

I think Alonso will score points aswell, but Massa should have been penalised for his blocking of Button. There really were no excuses.

Apart from the fact that pretty much every single driver had done the same thing during qualifying to engineer more space for themselves?

They hadn't though really. This was Q3, there was barely any traffic. He appeared to back off for no great reason.

take a look at 5.30

Theres no traffic ahead of Massa coming out of the tunnel down to the chicane. Coming into the final corner though I think I see a car entering the pit straight and then very soon after Schumacher sets a time, so somebody does appear to be there, but as Button is on a timed lap Massa should not have backed off. There were 10 cars in this session, not 24.

Had a fantastic time at Williams today. I think the guys are going to be busy rebuilding the cars when they get back. I had a go on a Williams F1 simulator , only a few tenths of one the Pro Ginetta drivers , sign me up

Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher has been penalised for overtaking Ferrari's Fernando Alonso when it was not allowed at the end of the Monaco Grand Prix.

The decision adds 20 seconds to the German's race time, demoting him to 12th place and putting Alonso sixth.

Schumacher passed Alonso on his way out of Rascasse and into Anthony Noghes, but the move came under a safety car.

The stewards, who included Schumacher's old rival Damon Hill, ruled that the German had breached safety rules.

Article 40.13 of the Formula 1 sporting regulations states: "If the race ends while the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking."

Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali said: "Our understanding of the rule is pretty clear, you can't overtake on the final lap."

But Mercedes' team boss Ross Brawn argued that the race was still active because the safety car pulled off the circuit and the race was not gong to end under safety car conditions.

"From the instructions we got, the safety car was coming in, but the race itself wasn't finishing under the safety car - that is a very important distinction.

"As soon as we got the instruction that the safety car was going in we thought the race was on again.

"Just look at the reaction of all of the other drivers, everybody was going for it," said Brawn.

Ferrari's Felipe Massa said he was told on team radio that the whole track was under yellow flag conditions when the safety car pulled into the pits, meaning that overtaking was not permitted.

But, speaking before the decision to punish him, Schumacher contradicted that claim.

"We got the message that the safety car was in and the track was clear, that means we are back racing, so I took my opportunity," said the German legend.

"It is normal that the other team has a different opinion, but I am not expecting a penalty."

Awful race.

If it weren't for Alonso starting last, there would have been no overtaking whatsoever in the whole race.

Well played to the stewards for giving MS a 20second penalty for actually showing so adventure near the end

F1 is broken

To be fair, if he'd overtaken Hamilton in the last corner, most people would be in absolute uproar and demand he was castrated or something.

My bet at the start of the season on Webber at 14/1 is suddenly looking good :)

Looks a quality day out mate ^^

As for Schumi's move, I agree with the BBC team, it appeared legimate (only just mind), and the kind of opportunism you expect from one of the best drivers. Quite ironic that Damon Hill is one of the guys on the panel to make the decision lol!

I'm not happy with this latest Schumacher controversy.

40.13 is one and a half lines of many, many pages of red tape which is damaging the sport and taking common sense out of racing.

"If the race ends while the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking."

Pity the marshalls didn't see it this way. They went away with the SC signs and out with the green flags. Other than hearsay, and teams jumping on the bandwagon with this, it's obvious that they were none the wiser either.

It was a brilliant piece of opportunism and it has been punished with a ridiculous penalty. At it's worst, if it is an infringement of the rule then surely common sense would dictate that the positions be reversed and "the pass" forgotten.

Shame on the FIA and shame yet again for a lack of common sense.

Yet again F1 and its results are governed in a court room.

A procession, that's all they want.
