How the hell can the team be expected to respect a captain who cares so little about his team mates? Seriously damaging to his credibility and he deserves no respect. The affair allegedly occurred while both players were teammates at Chelsea. Perroncel and Bridge are no longer romantically involved although the pair do have a son together. Terry has made no comments on the situation and Perroncel has enlisted the services of publicist Max Clifford. Bridge's lawyer issued the following statement: "I have read the press reporting in the last two days. The reports deal with matters which are of a deeply personal and private nature. I bet about 80% of the England squad has cheated on a partner before, you'd just be passing the buck onto someone no better really. What happens on the pitch matters. Bridge and Terry have good taste in women btw.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 31 January 2010 Posted 31 January 2010 I just think that if it was Terry cheating with Rooney's missus, or Gerrard's wife, then this issue would be miles bigger, and people would care an awful lot more, especially if both refused to (as it seems Bridge is doing) play in the same team as him. The only reason this should even matter in the slightest is that it could affect England at WC 2010, but seeing as the player involved is a second string Left Back (by a mile second string) then people really aren't going to care.

It isn't what he's done that's a problem (cant see how who a footballer's shagging has any direct impact on how good or bad a player they are, might suggest he's a bit of a ***t but then again there's plenty of them in all walks of life), what might be a problem is if it undermines his authority as the England Captain - that's something only Copello and the senior players know and frankly I'm inclined to trust Fabio's judgment more than the tabloid pack that's currently salivating over the prospect of tearing down a celebrity they've spent years building up. Either way he'll lose out massively on sponsorship and promotional deals and the FA are bound to worry that they may have a captain who's commercial poison in the run up to the World Cup.

If that's the case then it does become a sticky issue regarding the other players still want him to lead them and if they feel they can trust him. You have to trust Fabio to make the best decision on his captaincy though i suppose.

Should they be allowed to use their money to hide their dirty little secrets? If it was you having an affair with your best (?) mate's partner, you wouldn't be able to stop someone who finds out from spilling the beans to your family, your friends, all those who drink in your local, your work colleagues etc. And yes, Skinnydipper, the judge did find that he was more worried about his sponsorship deals than his wife or team mates knowing. Oh, and Terry would never have bagged her if he wasn't the highest paid English player in the country. Even I wouldn't go there, and I am Rymans League compared with her.

It's only because we live in a country that has a media so hopelessly obsessed with celebrity culture, who is playing hide the sausage with whom and other unimportant bullcrap that it's here at all. As Kareem says, if JT lifts the World Cup in Johannesburg this summer nobody will give a shit if he spent his Sunday afternoons interfering with foals. He'll still probably pick up a MBE along with the rest of the team and he'll still spend the rest of his days idolised opening branches of ASDA long after retirement. The only people to whom this story is important are JT and his missus, Wayne Bridge and his tasty ex. If the England team is as professionally run as it appears under Capello, it won't even affect the England team-mates. So why the NOTW has busted a gut trying to let us into this voyeuristic tale is anybody's guess.

I don't know how you can know that. If Ashley Cole gets injured then those 2 will be playing in the same back 4 probably hating each other. If somebody shagged my mates missus then I wouldn't feel too well disposed to him either. I don't care how professional the players are they're still human beings with feelings. As for this not being an issue in other countries, that may be true in some countries,but that's not necessarily a good thing.
