gazfox9 Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Right now, the only successful England team are the cricketers - and even that's due to a Zimbabwean coach and half a dozen Springboks... Some truth in that, but a bit harsh on Ali Cook, Graeme Swann, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Ian Bell, Matt Prior and Andrew Strauss though.
Charl91 Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 ey? Our side is crap and we've not got much coming through (although I'd be tempted to say more than England coming through) but we recognise that and don't think getting rid of Levein and appointing a foreign manager will automatically improve us. Really? You're not even on par.
The Doctor Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Who do they have of the calibre of Ramsey, Bale or Bellers? Darren Fletcher, no-one and no-one although I fancy that to change in the next couple of years with Forrest and Fleck coming through. Similarly the likes of Ness & Hutton at Rangers will be top players for us in 5 years time.
accessory Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Some truth in that, but a bit harsh on Ali Cook, Graeme Swann, Stuart Broad, James Anderson, Ian Bell, Matt Prior and Andrew Strauss though. The same Andrew Strauss who was born in Johannesburg (as was Prior) and went to school in Australia?

Every side could do with a Darren Fletcher but he's a journeyman that's been carried by a good club side, imo. Fleck can be judged as a real talent when he actually joins a proper club and starts showing some ability at a proper level. Until then he's going to be just another "good on FM."
Corky Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 But thats the thing, I feel we should work with what we've got. Maybe I'm old fashioned, I don't know anymore to be honest. Just out of curiousity, do you think Stuart Pearce would be a bad choice? (think he ruled himself out, might be wrong though) Yes.
Guest MattP Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Right now, the only successful England team are the cricketers - and even that's due to a Zimbabwean coach and half a dozen Springboks... Just to point out under the football nationality qualification laws only Trott wouldn't of been allowed to play. Strauss, KP both qualify on parentage and one of the main reasons KP came here was after being shunned by South Africas racist selection policies which meant he was having to sit down for a non-white player not as good as him at the time. In an ideal world we would have an English manager but we don't seem to have developed our managers to the level of our foreign counterparts, no other top footballing nation in Britain would of had people like Keegan, Tony Adams etc in the top flight.

Fletcher is one of the most underrated players around. He is one of the best in the world at his job. And to call him a journeyman and then mention 'Bellers' as you call him or 'bellend' as I call him is just hilarious. Just because Wales won one game it doesnt mean they will win the world cup in 2 years time because thats the way you always sound, especially if they beat mighty Bulgaria on Tuesday night. You make me
Father Ted Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Really? You're not even on par. I cant think of any good young Scottish players nevermind any that would be better than Jones, Smalling, Walker, Wilshere, Cleverley, Welbeck and so on.

Fletcher is a creative tour de force boyo. And Fleck is fairly good for Rangers when he plays (although I'd love him to move on, to bugger rangers and get more experience but mostly to bugger Rangers).

Coaching badges exist for a reason. It's disappointing how few ex-"professionals" pay proper attention to them. So you end up with players like Pearce, Shearer and others fast-tracked into management before they've had a chance to pick up basic skills or experience.
gazfox9 Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 The same Andrew Strauss who was born in Johannesburg (as was Prior) and went to school in Australia? , my bad
Guest Bilo Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Looking back over the past few pages, I'd like to make a prediction. Wales will qualify for a major tournament LONG before Scotland will. There are some quality young Welsh players in the Premiership not yet at their peak who knock anyone Scotland can boast into a cocked hat. The abject failure of Scottish sides in Europe, including Hearts being smashed to pieces by Tottenham's reserves, shows just how far Scottish football is off the pace right now. Wales will qualify for a major tournament within the next decade. I'll put money on it when I actually have some.
The Doctor Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 McGregor, Hutton, Caldwell, Berra, Bardsley, Fletcher, Bannan, Morrison, Adam, Naismith, Mackail-Smith. not a bad starting line-up.
Finnegan Posted 8 October 2011 Author Posted 8 October 2011 Hennessey* Gunter, Williams*, Collins*, Blake, Ledley, Collison*, Ramsey*, Vaughan*, Bale*, Bellamy* * = Premiership players. I know what I'd rather, you and Father Ted can pick what you want.
The Doctor Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 As many english prem players in ours as yours there - and two scottish prem. And isn't collison still at West Ham.

The Doctor Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 That team would struggle in the Prem. Nah it wouldn't - throw in a striker capable of scoring and it would absolutely rape Arsenal.
The Doctor Posted 8 October 2011 Posted 8 October 2011 Craig Levein's Blue and White Army!! Yellow and Navy Blue today boyo.
