Fosse Boy Posted 13 October 2010 Posted 13 October 2010 would you also throw serbian clubs out of the champions league/ europa league Well no, because it was fans of the national team who caused the trouble and not fans of a club side.
The Doctor Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Well no, because it was fans of the national team who caused the trouble and not fans of a club side. but those fans of the national team would surely support one of the club sides as well, so to punish those fans you'd need to ban the club sides as well.
StanSP Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 but those fans of the national team would surely support one of the club sides as well, so to punish those fans you'd need to ban the club sides as well. And if they all support different clubs? What if those clubs have done no wrong at all? Would that not be a bit harsh on the club if they have no political interest or involvement with what the fans did in Genoa? Banning the club sides would be very wrong in my opinion.
Father Ted Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 I'd go extreme on Serbia Forget awarding the game to Italy. I'd have Serbia thrown out of the Euro 2012 competition entierly, and forced to play their home games either at a neutral venue or behind closed doors for the foreseeable future. If you come down soft, it'll seem like it's something that UEFA can't or don't want to control, when it really has to be, giving free reign for the fans to cause havoc when things return to normal. If that kind of extreme intervention was introduced but then the same thing happened, well, I'd just throw Serbia into the international football wilderness, no friendlies, no qualifiers, no major tournaments. Sort your fans out before you come back into the international scene. I'll probably get a lot of **** offs for that, as it is harsh, but if you don't come down hard then it's just going to carry on. Yeah, and how often has it happened, eh? Hooliganism is hardly a major problem now is it? Get real, how would you feel if 3 England 'hooligans' went mental at a match against Italy and YOUR team was subsequently banned? Do the maths, do 3 people account for millions? What about the Italians for letting Serbs into the ground with pliers, A LARGE BATTERING RAM, flares and fireworks? Did they not do checks? It's seriously over Kosovo? Or were the chaps with the Albanian flag just a minority of morons within the morons? How the fuck is that a reasonable outlet? Mental. You'd think by now they'd be used to the breakdown of former Yugoslavia. Wouldn't mind but it's population's less than five percent Serb anyway. Are they holding on for anything other than some sense of nationalist pride? Nothing to do with Kosovo. 'You'd think they'd be used to the breakdown of former Yugoslavia'? How can you know until you've been in their position. The majority that was portrayed in the English media was not true and that's because I know people that were there! Tell me, how can Kosovo, in the middle of Serbia be allowed indepedence but the Serb Republic of Krajina in Croatia was not allowed by the Yanks and neither is Republika Srpska in Bosnia even though Republika Srpska even now is majorly ran by Serbs and the actual area of Republika Srpska is 51% of Bosnia and Herzegovina itself? You hear nothing about the campaign for Republika Srpska independence here do you? I was just watching the Serbian nationalists on Italian TV. Outside the ground, the police really went hard on them - they were treated like the animals they are. Everytime the Serbs have a setback they seem to throw their dummy out and do stupid shit. Yeah, because we're leaders, not sheep. Everybody hates us, we know that but you can ask any neutral Bosniak, Croat, any ex-Yugoslav and they will tell you the truth about the war. You shouldn't believe everything that you read in the papers, hear on the news and read on the net. Absolute fucking madness from the Serbs. Seems like a combination of tensions running high over Kosovo, general protest against the national side and Serbian FA, and wanting to prove themselves in Italy, where the Ultras scene originated. Different world for some of these Eastern European nations, absolutely crazy. As for England, well it doesn't surprise me. Everybody harks on about change for a couple of months after a tournament failure, a couple of wins appease everyone, all that is wrong is forgotten, the culture doesn't change, the cycle continues. I think it resulted due to several different factors. Radomir Antic being unfairly sacked, undoubtedly the best Serbian manager around. The fans don't like Vuk Karadzic, the head of the Serbian FA. Then they lost 3-1 at home to Estonia, Stojkovic the goalkeeper having a mare, which adds to the fact that the majority already hate him. Having previously played for Red Star, he signed on for Partizan, something you just DON'T do! And then there were the gay parade riots on Saturday in which all of the hooligan firms joined to cause chaos and all of this had got them going and they just lost it. Kosovo has nothing to do with it, the Albania flag was burned just for 'a laugh'. If it were England that would the case. Cant seem UEFA doing it to Serbia mind. Hmmm... I doubt it. I see where you're coming from though. They sanctioned us in '92 when we had the best team in history, imo just after Red Star had won the European Cup. Denmark replaced us and they won it! Hope FIFA kick Serbia and there vile fans out of these qualifiers. It would be UEFA actually And I think those 'vile fans' are better than those like yourself who doesn't go to a single match but still manages to accumulate 10000+ posts of crap on a football forum. Flares thrown onto the pitch, Abandoned by the referee, Serbs went onto the Serb bus and thrown smoke bombs. Actually, they threw a flare at Vladimir Stojkovic.
MC Prussian Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Well, yeah. They sanctioned you in '92 because obviously some political and military leaders got a bit too concerned with conducting war within Yugoslavia after Tito's departure. A pretty decent basis to kick a team out of a competition for safety reasons (not that the Yugo football squad at that time deserved it, mind). But in terms of aggressive behaviour towards your own national team (the Stojkovic Affair), I thought we had it bad when some country jocks started booing Frei when he got subbed off on Tuesday. You're just taking the mick.
Corky Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Yeah, and how often has it happened, eh? Hooliganism is hardly a major problem now is it? Surely it's better to make a stand now and attempt to prevent more occurances rather than let it continue and face greater consequences?
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 As I said after the wc, nothing has changed, the football is still depressing and there is little reason to care about any of the tossers which pull on the shirt. Same, watched England for so many years now, always backed them but really losing interest after this years WC.
Salieri Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Same, watched England for so many years now, always backed them but really losing interest after this years WC. I feel the same after every England failure only to be caught up yet again in the build up to a tournament with all the hype and false expectations only to be let down again. And so it continues.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 14 October 2010 Posted 14 October 2010 Bloody gutted after Tuesday... Belgium were 1-0 up only to go 2-1 down, equalise, then go 3-2 down, score 2 late goals, one in the 90th minute to take a 4-3 lead and then concede again in the 90th minute losing 2 points in a 4-4 draw with Austria! It was that or watch England... glad I chose the former.
Alexikokopops Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 Yea ok, but if you look through the thread, I've written pages to try and back up my opinion which go a hell of a lot further than that particular comment. My apologies. I was being lazy and didn't read any of the pages after that post. I wasn't even trying to debate (again, probably the laziness again), just noticed that looked a bit off Anyway, I agree with you whatever you went on to say if it means winding Finners up. If only Giggs had played for England instead of Wales.......... As I said after the wc, nothing has changed, the football is still depressing and there is little reason to care about any of the tossers which pull on the shirt. Things have changed for the worst - no Emile
Finnegan Posted 15 October 2010 Author Posted 15 October 2010 Anyway, I agree with you whatever you went on to say if it means winding Finners up. If only Giggs had played for England instead of Wales.......... He was shit anyway mate. Carried by Iwan Roberts in that side.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 15 October 2010 Posted 15 October 2010 The Serbia incident looks from the video to be just a couple, nothing largescale, however it must have been bad to have the game abandoned. Can't understand why it happened though ? And that guy is a right meathead!
Webbo Posted 24 February 2011 Posted 24 February 2011 If they leave the England game in Cardiff's ground it'll sell out and be a fooking brilliant atmosphere but I bet they move it back to the Millenium, get about 36'000 in and it'll be a flop. You don't think Wales v England at the millenium stadium will sell out then? Read the above. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be wrong. But in my experience? No. Looks like I was right then. Welsh FA confirm England Millennium Stadium sell-out
Finnegan Posted 25 February 2011 Author Posted 25 February 2011 Yup. Dropped the ticket prices down to as low as a fiver in some parts of the ground for U16s and seniors; bit more than that for a full adult ticket. Crazy for an international game - but it's a good way of getting the bodies in. I never denied that England would have a bigger pull than other sides, I just told you that with then-levels of Welsh interest in football and with the prices we were then charging you'd never get a sell out. Prices are down, they've pushed a good scheme of ticket sales through the clubs and Toshack's gone. I hope there's a good atmosphere, we'll need it.
shen Posted 26 March 2011 Posted 26 March 2011 Denmark one up at halftime against Norway, Rommedahl with a beauty of a volley. Convincing performance so far, surprised that Norway haven't applied more pressure, but they're sure to come out second half firing on all cylinders.
shen Posted 26 March 2011 Posted 26 March 2011 FT 1-1. Huseklepp getting a late equaliser (I think the tackle that started the counter was a clear foul, ah well). Majorly disappointed, Norway deserved absolutely nothing from that game. Misplaced passes, clumsy tackles, one-dimensional and over-reliant on set-pieces which they got absolutely nothing out of. Bendtner had a bit of a shocker, but Rommedahl, Eriksen and Krohn-Dehli were excellent and we probably deserved to score at least one more goal. Bitter. *edit* - Norwegian TV suggests their goal was offside, Abdellaoue interfering with play is debatable though.
Jonezy Posted 26 March 2011 Posted 26 March 2011 Goddammit... Norway are the Stoke of international football. Only dangerous on set pieces and throw-ins, and then we let them score on a counter attack with 9 minutes left when leading 0-1... Ass.

Thought he made an excellent job of marking Hangeland on set pieces. But attacking flair, he has not.
shen Posted 26 March 2011 Posted 26 March 2011 Don't underestimate Bendtner's aerial work in our own box. Thought he made an excellent job of marking Hangeland on set pieces. But attacking flair, he has not. He's excellent at the back ironically, but he lost the ball in the other end and was always half a yard off the pace. The counter where Rommedahl slips him through first half is a brilliant example of his day today. I don't care if he's got 'physical presence', his partnership with Eriksen never looks like it'll work based on their performances together since the WC. Wish we had more options when Bendtner chooses to have an 'Arsenal' day...
MC Prussian Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 Ireland held on to a nice 0-0 in Moscow. The Russians threw everything at them towards the end, but the Irish made it through. Given with a great save from a header, too. Azerbaijan beat Kazakhstan 3-2, after having been down 0-1 at half-time. See, they're not so bad like their U21-counterparts. And the Netherlands have just taken the lead against Finland - with a magical, Bergkamp-esque goal by Strootman. The Oranjes are more or less dictating their style of play onto the opposition.
MC Prussian Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 The Netherlands beat Finland 2-0 in the end. Switzerland managed to overcome an early goal by Bulgaria, three goals by Xherdan Shaqiri did the trick in a lacklustre performance by the home side. A meagre 16'000 fans made it to Basle and saw a shocking first 45 minutes, until Shaqiri did everyone a great favour with the equalizer. Hitzfeld came up with yet another defensive-oriented approach and waited up until the 82nd minute with the first substitution. Bulgaria had been decimated to ten men through a second yellow against Milanov by then. Fernandes came on in the 87th and didn't have any influence at all for the short spell he played. Two more wins and we might make it to Poland/Ukraine after all. Even though we wouldn't really deserve it. With the exception of Shaqiri in the middle, no one else had a convincing appearance. Far from it. Biggest surprises so far today: Austria drawing with Turkey at home. Iceland beating Cyprus 1-0. Luxembourg 2 - 1 Albania. And Slovakia losing at home to minnows Armenia, and that by 4-0.
shen Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 KOM SÅ DANMARK! We certainly showed those Norwegians who's the boss. Bendtner had a storming game! And his second one was a beauty. That'll shut up some of his critics... This result means we'll have at least second place secured with a win against Cyprus, and setting up a decider against Portugal in the final game.
Narborough_fox Posted 6 September 2011 Posted 6 September 2011 Scotland 1-0 Lithuania. Look and weep lads, we've beaten Lithuania.
