iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 What do you people think to Wembley, if we were to get there would it be better or worse than a trip to the old wembley ?
BlueSi13 Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 The old one scarred me for life with its river of piss.....the new one would own it everytime if their weren't so many of the corporate suits in there making the place as atmospheric as a crisp bag
Daggers Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 The new one is just another celebration of corporate shit. Soulless bollock stadium charging ten fucking poundish for a crap, luke-warm portion of fish and chips. I saw so many games at the old Wembley over the years, club and countries, and lament its destruction. We could have simply upgraded the toilets.
Tommeh Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 Old one, it's not even a competition. Not been new one, but i've heard off enough people to have a pretty good idea of how bad it is. If we got there this season I'd cetainly go, however if I was a Chelsea/United etc. fan who go there every season I'd not set foot near it.
purpleronnie Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 I've been to both. The old wembley was nothing special it was pretty dull but it did have a sense of history and a little character. The new one is just a slightly bigger emirates, souless, boring, full of sightseers, it was by far the most opressive atmosphere and worst footballing experience I've ever had, even if leicester got there I woudn't go.
Guest Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 Been to the new one for music, not football, and I didn't like it. It's nothing special, and seems more cramped than the old one.
dandannieldanok Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 Atmosphere is purely about the fans and what you make of it, regardless of the ground.
purpleronnie Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 Atmosphere is purely about the fans and what you make of it, regardless of the ground. Definately, its tough though with so many plastics and sightseers choosing to go to wembley thesedays. When I went there loads of fans just talking or texting throughout the match, the guy next to be was more interested in looking at his new cufflinks he had bought, zero standing, and if someone tried to stand they were pounced upon by stewards. It was beyond dull. Travelling there with my face crushed up against the window on the tube and the huge amount of time to get back on the tube at the end didn't help my mood either. It was just terrible, plus it was just a painfull reminder of why I had stopped going in the first place. Depressing. I realised back in the mid 90's the fun was being ripped out of supporting your team and 10 years later I realised how much worse it had become.
lcfcadam Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 Atmosphere is purely about the fans and what you make of it, regardless of the ground. THANK YOU! I didn't realise anyone else other than me thought this way. Seems to make so much sense to me, and yet still the endless moaning about all these "soulless new bowl stadiums" and that carries on...
purpleronnie Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 THANK YOU! I didn't realise anyone else other than me thought this way. Seems to make so much sense to me, and yet still the endless moaning about all these "soulless new bowl stadiums" and that carries on... It depends on your interpretation of 'soulesss' in my opinion its not a criticism of the fans thats a seperate issue, rather than a criticism of the boring new stadia lacking any redeeming characters.
davieG Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 THANK YOU! I didn't realise anyone else other than me thought this way. Seems to make so much sense to me, and yet still the endless moaning about all these "soulless new bowl stadiums" and that carries on... But these soulless new bowls with their draconian stewarding have attracted a different type of 'quiet' fan and sidelined a large majority of late teen/twenties fan who tended to be the vocal majority. That's not to have a go at the 'new' fan they're not responsible and are as entitled as anyone to be there. The blame lies with the authorities who have systematically cleansed the ground of many passionate, vocal and animated fans. Hence modern bowls, not the building as such but the way they are operated do equate with soulless atmosphere. Anyway hopefully there will be no corporates slumming themselves at the play off finals and with a potential 40k 'club' fans there a sufficient number of the old school will turn up to liven up the atmosphere.
Shrenchel Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 THANK YOU! I didn't realise anyone else other than me thought this way. Seems to make so much sense to me, and yet still the endless moaning about all these "soulless new bowl stadiums" and that carries on... Well, obviously. If your fans are fvcking spot on you can create an atmosphere anywhere but for a club like Leicester where singers/standers are in the minority nowadays, it aint easy to get good noise going on if the stadium isn't made for that. I know a few Leeds lads that said they had a crackin day there (despite the result), all 3 tiers standing, all singing in unison, they couldnt even see why it had this reputation for being shit. Then again, my Bristol City mate said it wasnt a patch on the old one, basically nobody stood up, hideously awkward blocks of silence, more daytrippers than you could shake a souvenir jesters hat at. Considering we can barely even get an atmosphere going at home, Id fancy our chances of falling into the second category.
Corky Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 The old one was brilliant, haven't been to the new one, hope to go soon (obviously for the play-off final should we get there but also for one of the Euro 2012 qualifiers).
Webbo Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 If we get to the final there'll be plenty of atmosphere.
Joe. Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 Been to the new one to see Oasis, and I was actually really impressed. I was just there picturing what it would be like to see us in the play-off final there a lot of the time. The dream is still there to see City one day, hopefully sooner rather than later. I can't stand the corporate side of Wembley these days, but that's not going to get in the way of my view that it is a pretty tidy stadium on the whole. The problems are who runs and goes inside it...
purpleronnie Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 If we get to the final there'll be plenty of atmosphere. Do you think so? I predict 40,000 fans sitting on their hands.
ousefox Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 I liked it when i went to wath the FA Trophy final last year...Never got to go to the old one though.
Webbo Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 Do you think so? I predict 40,000 fans sitting on their hands. I've been 7 times to the old one and it was never boring then.
purpleronnie Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 I've been 7 times to the old one and it was never boring then. Having been tio the new one I stand (or should that be sit) by my prediction.
Karljohn Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 Saw the 4 play offs and 3 league cup finals at the old Wembley but have only been to the new one last July to see Oasis/Kasabian - just felt like it had lost a bit of magic, whilst I was pleased not to have to stand in 5 inches of piss, it was £4.30 for 9 inches of piss (carlsberg lager)
Daggers Posted 19 March 2010 Posted 19 March 2010 THANK YOU! I didn't realise anyone else other than me thought this way. Seems to make so much sense to me, and yet still the endless moaning about all these "soulless new bowl stadiums" and that carries on... Amazingly I didn't mention 'atmosphere', sweetcheeks, I mentioned 'soul'. Turning up to a ground which has seen a succession of heroes, proper heroes and not your fucking shove ha'penny Merc driving cunts who inhabit football these days, fills you with awe. The Towers where countless long-since-dead names ran the turf, where schoolboys with pudding bowl haircuts watched 70's playboys and miners cheered & beered the displays of 50s cloggers. A ground which saw the great names of football, names which now languish in the lower echelons of the league structure, and boots and balls of leather. Trot out your glib 'endless moaning' shite all you like - but it does nothing more than display a youth devoid of the opportunity to pay respect to those who went before, of a culture lacking a knowledge of heritage. So go wave your shite flare, sing your daft song about a player having congress with a wife you don't yet have, and whinge about those who really tasted football. There was only one Wembley, poppet, and like the traditional game - it is now dead.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 20 March 2010 Author Posted 20 March 2010 I think it would be better than most other occasions if Leicester got there, big support and loyal fans. If we get there we HAVE to stand, if everyone does the stewards will give up.
Bluefoxtim Posted 20 March 2010 Posted 20 March 2010 Will never forget my first trip to Wembley against Boro in '97. Walked up the steps and had an involuntary sharp intake of breath as soon as I saw the pitch.
purpleronnie Posted 20 March 2010 Posted 20 March 2010 I think it would be better than most other occasions if Leicester got there, big support and loyal fans. If we get there we HAVE to stand, if everyone does the stewards will give up. Yep, but it wont happen.
