28th May 2005 - Millennium Stadium - FA Cup Final

Leicester City vs Chelsea

Welcome to a sunny Cardiff for the 2005 FA Cup Final. This years Final yet again sees a David and Goliath clash as Championship runners up Leicester face Premiership runners up Chelsea. Jose Mourinho and Chris Rice have declared their admiration for each other before the game but once the first ball is kicked both will desperatley want to win.

If Chelsea win today it will be their 4th FA Cup victory, if Leicester win it will be their first. Both sets of fans have turned out in force to fill the Millennium Stadium with blue and white, Leicester will today wear their black kit however. Chelsea have the more worrying team news with Terry, Vieri, Kezman and Luque all out injured, Leicester only have Savolainen on international duty.

The two teams appear from the tunnel to fireworks, balloons and a deafing roar. The traditional pre Cup Final ceremonies are taken place, can Leicester really upset the odds and claim their first ever FA Cup or will Chelsea predictabley lift the cup yet again?

4 mins - Straight from the restart Pezzarossi makes a run forward, he beats Huth and fires in a shot but its rebounded back by Cech straight to Mendoza whos shot is blocked.

9 mins - Leicester move forward, Pezzarossi runs at goal but plays the ball sideways to Williams who carries on moving forward into the aera.....but he fires his shot high over the bar.

39 mins - Drogba finds himself with acres of space, just Walker to beat......but his touch is poor and Walker collects.

41 mins - Mendoza strides forward with the ball, he beats the Chelsea defence but his shot is somehow blocked....it falls to Joey Gudjonsson though...but his shot is deflected or a corner..but the corner is headed away.

HALF TIME - We have played very well, if it wasn't for a early lapse in concentration by Canero to let Gudjohnson in we would be level however since then Canero has kept him quiet. Since the goal we have been the better side but with the quality Chelsea have they could score at any minute. Mendoza has come into the game more in the last 20 minutes so hopeully he can create a bit of magic.

46 mins - Drogba goes agonisingly close with a close range header from a Robben close, the ball just skimmed the post.

47 mins - Gudjohnson narrow angel shot is pushed around the post by Walker.

64 mins - Lampard gets on the end of a cross, he fires in a low shot....but Walker holds and saves.

65 mins - Parker attempts a quick long range effort but it is straight at Walker.

Posted

70 mins - Ferreira swings in a cross looking for Drogba, Drogba rises......and heads the ball past Walker and into the goal!! Chelsea take the lead with just 20 minutes remaining.

71 mins - De Vries replaces Pezzarossi.

72 mins - Robbens long range effort goes harmlessly wide.

73 mins - Gudjohnson fires in a shot that grazes the post.

Posted

85 mins - Morgan replaces Stewart.

87 mins - Leicester win a freekick 30 yards out, Gudjonsson plays it short to Hughes who strikes a shot....but Cech just manages to hold it.

FINAL WHISTLE - Chelsea win the FA Cup

We may have lot but we certianley gave Chelsea a very good game and I can't help feel very disapointed, but also proud. Chelsea's class shone through in the end but considering what division we are in we did very well to compete with Chelsea as we did, we had 7 shots on goal compared to Chelseas 11 and we had 45% of the possesion. A day to remember for Leicester City.

We now will prepare for our return back to the Premiership and if todays game is anything to go by we stand a good chance of survival.
