How the frig did you manage to land Veron?!?!?!

With pure ambition and charm ;)

Also the fact he hardly got a game at Barca.

12th February 2006 - Premiership

Leicester City 4-1 Aston Villa

It was a stunning performance from us to thrash rivals Villa. Goals from Forssell, Williams and a brace from Mendoza gave us 3 points and a reason to celebrate at the Walkers Stadium. A great team performance.

16th February 2006 - UEFA Cup 1st Knockout Round 1st Leg

Leicester City 1-1 Werder Bremen

The game in which we started preparing for months a go ended in a draw at the Walkers Stadium. Bremen fielded big starts such as Johan Micoud, Miroslav Klose and Frank Baumann but they were second best throughout the game. Forssell opened the scoring for us early on but it was quickly ruled out by Jensen, we then proceeded to miss a hatful of great chances...some by luck, some by good keeping and some by poor finishing. Disapointed not to be taking a lead to Germany in a weeks time.

19th February 2006 - Premiership

Leicester City 0-0 Crystal Palace

A very even game and in the end a draw was a fair result, suprised neither team scored though as we both had a lot of chances.

23rd February 2006 - UEFA Cup 1st Knockout Round 1st Leg

Werder Bremen 2-0 Leicester City

We exited the UEFA Cup in Bremen after being fairly beaten by the German side. We never really got going and despite having a few chances we never looked like breaking Bremen. We did ever so well to get this far in the competition and it has been an enjoyable journey.

4th March 2006 - Premiership

Arsenal 2-3 Leicester City

We beat the league leaders at Highbury in a remarkable game. Gareth Williams handed us a suprise lead after 8 mins but a Ljungberg penalty a few minutes later put things even. Jose Manuel Mendoza put us back ahead with half an hour gone but just into first-half stoppage time Arsenal pulled level. With the Arsenal players minds on their half-time orange we pounced with seconds left, Mikael Forssell scoring with a 25 yard shot from a move straight from the kick-off to give us the lead once again. We defended perfectly in the second half and kept out the best team in the Premiership this eason, we even managed to give Arsenal a number of scares in the second period also.

Too bad about the UEFA Cup...it was a good effort though! And stunning result there against the best defense and league leaders away! kudos, Ricey although the form of the previously 10 posted games left much to desire ^_^

Some good signings as well

18th March 2006 - Premiership

Leicester City 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Another fine victory for us against Spurs. Juan Sebastian Verons first goal for the club gave us a half-time lead, Kanoute then equalized early on in the second half but a trademark mindblowing goal from Mendoza gave us back the lead. We even kept Spurs out in the last 20 mins after Kosnorbo had got sent off.

26th March 2006 - Premiership

Portsmouth 3-1 Leicester City

Despite leading the game through Forssell we couldn't hold on and we eventually lost heavily to Pompey. We got caught on the counter attack too aften and our defence looked shaky.

2nd April 2006 - Premiership

Leicester City 0-0 Wolves

A very even game that deserved to end in a draw, neither team played well.

8th April 2006 - Premiership

Blackburn Rovers 4-2 Leicester City

After looking well beaten at 2-0 at half-time we came out at the break looking strong, Mendoza gave us hope with a goal and it looked like we could get something out of the game. However Blackburn scored a lucky penalty and it proved too much, Jordan Stewart scored a conselation goal for us.

15th April 2006 - Premiership

Leicester City 0-3 Middlesbrough

A truely awful display. Boro came to the Walkers Stadium and soundly beat us, we never looked a real threat and to add to our worries Veron was sent off for two bookings. This was Forssells last game for us as he now returns to Cheldea. We are now 12th with 4 games left, would be nice to finish as high up as possible.

22nd April 2006 - Premiership

Leeds United 1-1 Leicester City

A Clark Carlise own goal with 4 minutes remaining gave us a point in a game that we really should of won.

29th April 2006 - Premiership

Leicester City 1-1 Newcastle United

Jose Manuel Mendoza gave us the lead after 14 minutes in our last home game but from there on it was all Newcastle, we were lucky not to lose the game by a number of goals.

6th May 2006 - Premiership

Bolton Wanderers 4-2 Leicester City

It was a very tight game up until Essediri got sent off in the 68th minute with the scores at 2-2, Bolton then took control of the game and we couldn't cope. Our goals came from Connolly and a Gardener own goal.

13th May 2006 - Premiership

Liverpool 2-2 Leicester City

We suprisingly lead Liverpool at half-time 2-0 with goals from Mendoza and Connolly, however Liverpool came out strong in the second half and got back onto level terms. A very good performance from us nonetheless and a good way to end a succesful season.

End of season review and final table coming soon...

Summary

It was a undoubtedly succesful season that saw us once more exceed all expectations. We were expected to battle relegation but instead we became the kind of team we once were under Martin O'Neill, a good Premiership side that could give anyone a game. We also enjoyed a long stint in the UEFA Cup, travelling to places such as Munich and Istanbul. We had some outstanding players this season with Gareth Williams and Ian Walker being named in the Premiership team of the season, unfortunatley I couldn't keep hold of Walker and he will join Wolves in the summer. Mendoza was once again our star player, he partically played well after the signing of Veron so hopefully that bodes well for next season.

Next Season

The aim is to now push on challenge for the European places in the league, however we have to make sure we avoid relegation as this division is very tight. We need a new goalkeeper, a central defender and another striker at the minimum. I'm going to try and be ambitious with my signings.

2006/2007 SEASON PREVIEW

New Signings

Franco Costanzo - River Plate - £5m

Bobo Balde - Celtic - £1.3m

Luis Figo - Real Madrid - Free

Bobby Zamora - West Ham - £3.3m

Shaun Barker - Hull City - £1.8m

Very pleased with this summers dealings. I feel we have replaced a good keeper with a far better younger one, the fans are worried about Costanzos' attidude but I feel it won't be a problem. Bobo Balde is a player I've tried to sign for a long time, as you can see he is top notch in all the key defensive skills and this will prove vital. Luis Figo eh? Bit of a shocker, he may be 33 but I feel he was well worth enticing out of retirement to come to Leicester as he will add flair and skill to the wings. Bobby Zamore is a player who has scored consistantly for West Ham in the last two seasons so I think he was wirth a shot in this division. Finally Shaun Barker is versatile young back up player who has impressed a lot of people in the lower divisions.

Players Out

Ian Walker - Wolves - Free

Dion Dublin - Free

Danny Tiatto - Derby - Free

Joey Gudjonsson - Free

Peter Canero - Palace - Free

Expectations

Both the board and the fans expect the team to achive a safe mid table finish, this is something I expect aswell although it would be great to challenge for Europe. The club recently spent over £8m on a stadium expansion which when completed in November will take the Walkers Stadium to a 42,500 seater stadium, the board obviously want the club to carry on progressing.

Pre Season

2-0 Lincoln

3-1 Accrington

2-1 Pro Vercelli

1-0 Palermo

1-2 AC Milan

Excellent return to the Premiership Ricey, great job. :)

How do you expand your stadium?

The board decide when the stadium is expanded, you can ask for it to be like City Fan said though.

Figo must be on a fairly high wage?

If you see the link, you will be able to see that Ricey has managed to get him for £19,000 a week. Not sure how you managed that.

Real didn't want him, nor did anyone else so he was going to retire.

Well done, but you do splash out the cash a bit ;)

Money is there to be spent :D

Agreed but with that kind of money you can get in fantastic players ;). Still, Figo is a great capture..

12th August 2006 - Premiership

Tottenham Hotspurs 3-1 Leicester City

We suffered a defeat in the first game of the season. Despite not playing badly we were second best and never did enough to win the game. Fabrice Fernandes equalized just before half time but the second half was all Spurs.

16th August 2006 - Premiership

Leicester City 0-0 Newcastle United

A reasonable performance but both sides cancelled each other out. We only had 7 shots on goal in this game, I expect more.

19th August 2006 - Premiership

Blackburn Rovers 2-1 Leicester City

We were very unlucky not to get anything in this game but after going 2-0 we made it very hard for ourselves, Bobby Zamora did pull a goal back for us but it wasn't enough.

23rd August 2006 - Premiership

Leicester City 3-0 Crystal Palace

An outstanding display fro us to demolish Palace. We limited them to very few chances and had the game won at 3-0 at half time. Mendoza, Fernandes and Zamore with the goals.

26th August 2006 - Premiership

Birmingham City 2-0 Leicester City

We created little upfront again and despite defending well most of the time we fell asleep twice and both times we were punished. Changes needed to be made tactically because we are suffering the kind of defeats we did last season.
