Its a bloke sat on a stump with his right leg bent and the left outstretched. His right arm is resting down on the stump and his left arm is wrapped around his head. If you look close to the right of the birds eye, you can see his face.

I can see why Buce thinks it's a monkey, but if you loo at the face, the eye is a distraction. The right eye, which is closed, is below it, the left eye is open. The mouth looks kinda ape-like but is more human when you look closely and there's a human nose. The legs and torso are not of the correct proportions to be a monkey and the feet don't have the long toes of a monkey.
