Finchy Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 I heard that just now, is it the pompey or the stevenage fans? Stevenage because you could here 'Play up Pompey" then it got completely drowned out by drums and really loud singing.
Fosse Boy Posted 9 August 2010 Author Posted 9 August 2010 Stevenage fans are, in my experience, a pathetic bunch of twats. And no, they don't have a group.
foss1884 Posted 9 August 2010 Posted 9 August 2010 Unfortunately, because of the lack of willingness of organisers and members to contribute to a potential story in the Leicester Mercury, an article about the group could not be pursued which is a crying shame after the efforts to get them to listen. Perhaps they will be forthcoming in the future.
1964FOX Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 In fairness being asked late.afternoon to arrange seperate phone interviews and a group photo the following day is somewhat impractical, I am sure lots of people want to contribute but the time scale given by the mercury is unreasonable for anyone who works. They could easily send a reporter pre match to the Counting House pub and speak to people and get a quality picture. I know it' s not your fault but can't blame the organisers either.
AndyBrew Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 Christ on a bike, give us a chance, I think people have got a life to lead

Perhaps they will be forthcoming in the future. I think that's a little harsh. Obviously we've all been overwhelmed that people have been so supportive of us in alerting the media of our presence, but at the end of the day we all have jobs and other more pressing group-related matters to be dealing with at the moment. We can't just be at anyone's beck and call when it suits them, especially at this early stage in the group's history.
foss1884 Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 Just to let you all know, i sent an email back explaining the situation and how the group want time to gel and establish. However, the Mercury are insistent on a story of some kind BEFORE the Boro' game and are ringing back later. I fear regardless of what you guys think, they will still write an article and it will be based on my original correspondence with the Mercury a week ago. Do not shoot me if that happens! They already know a lot. All they are lacking are quotes. We shall have to see....

Perhaps they will be forthcoming in the future. As 1964fox and Fosse Boy have said already, the timing was just a little impractical. It was just a little short notice for the group to be able to arrange everything the merc was asking for. But your efforts are still much appreciated foss1884. On a personal note I also feel that it might be a little early to be doing interviews and featuring in articles etc. The radio interview was a great follow up to the Sunderland game and a good chance for us to clear up what the group is about after the speculation during/after the match. But I think it might be better of us to wait until we have achieved a little more before we start getting overly involved with the media. After all, we have only come together as a group once properly so far and while things seem to be going well, we don't want to get too ahead of ourselves. Just my opinion though, would be interesting to hear what others think...

Dan Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 Got a West Brom fan off another forum who is part of their section who tried something like this, he told me this: I spent last season in the new singing section at West Brom. Speaking to a couple of the lads who set it all up the same problems keep cropping up. Alientating other fans happened quite a bit up the Albion, we started off with a name but it got dropped as soon as we heard rumblings around the ground on a matchday and on the messageboard, since the name was dropped a lot more people have got involved and a lot more people have signed up ahead of next season. Our area was set up in the Birmingham Road End, many of the fans in the Smethwick End saw this as direct competition and there has been lots of inter-stand competition and at times its got quite unsavoury, the organisers of the scheme have had to hold numerous meetings to ensure that things didn't get out of hand and make sure that everyone was singing from the same hymn sheet. Also make sure you have arrangements in place with your stewards. Despite having severall meetings with the stadium manager the club still came back to us and said that they wouldn't tolerate persistant standing and sure enough one of the lads got thrown out, first home game of the season. It got much better towards the end of the season when the stewards realised that we weren't there to cause trouble though. Seeing as the club seems quite invloved in the 'Fosse Boys' then I'm sure you wont have too many problems. Don't get too down-hearted if its a slow start, things usually pick up as the season goes along, depending on how your doing on the pitch as well. Halfway through last season the club even began setting tickets aside for away games so we could carry it onto both home and away games. Hope that helps mate. Make of it what you want.

Just my opinion though, would be interesting to hear what others think... I think they want to promote the group and pressure the club possibly into allowing flag poles like in other stadiums. They are aware of the debate and the ongoing wranglings, but want to be seen to support the efforts of supporters in trying to better the atmosphere inside the stadium. From what i can gather, they want to get supporters aware of the Fosse Boys and make fans seated in The Kop supportive of the efforts of the Fosse Boys so that it is a success. Otherwise, as they see it, supporters are being caught cold. They want it to have a big impact against Boro'. Also, i did mention that it would be nice if the Mercury sponsor some card visual displays last week. Surely keeping them sweet may then lead to them being more willing to sponsor the efforts of the Fosse Boys and good P.R for them by helping supporters improve matchday enjoyment?
andy_croydz Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 The atmosphere was brilliant on Saturday, if you lads were the spearhead behind some of the chants then full credit to you. I thought the way we carried on chanting songs even at 3-0 down was awesome.

I hear what you are saying. I think everyone involved would agree that it would definitely be preferable to have the local media on side. If what you posted before is true then it sounds like they may well run an article on us anyway, whether we are a part of it or not. Assuming what you also posted above, that the merc are supportive of our efforts, then we have nothing to fear from any potential article. If they didn't have a clue what the group is about, it might be a higher priority to have some involvement in the article but it sounds like you have filled them in well. This week, in particular, there are just slightly higher priorities, mainly getting an idea of numbers for the boro game and making sure that eveyone who is up for it can get tickets in the same place so we actually have a presence at the game to match the hype. With that going on, work and everything else it just hasn't left much time for things like this unfortunatley.
leftsideoverhere Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 Thought the West Brom quote seemed quite promising, although I don't think singing hymns in football grounds will ever catch on. That's more a rugby thing, isn't it? Seems likely that some might see the FB as 'competition' to L block and / or the traditional kop, but since it's not like the Walkers has got a century of tradition and history I don't think this will be such a big deal for us.

If L block are also asked to sit down as a result of the Fosse Boys then this could all end badly
1964FOX Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 If they try to make L block sit down I will stop singing and watching the game because seeing the stewards attempting to make 2000 people sit down who are used to standing will be far more entertaining

andy_croydz Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010  I think he was being sarcastic, at least I hope so
Bert Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 I'd be rather annoyed if they try and make l1 sit down to accomodate the fosse boys.
Fosse Boy Posted 10 August 2010 Author Posted 10 August 2010 If L block are also asked to sit down as a result of the Fosse Boys then this could all end badly Not quite sure how you've come to the conclusion that that's going to happen?
Houdini Logic Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 Not quite sure how you've come to the conclusion that that's going to happen? At what point did I say this was going to happen? Just replying to an interesting point from the West Brom fan regarding in-fighting - If for whatever reason the club/stewards take a disliking to your group and they try and make you sit down then there is a good chance that one or two or several people will say 'well why are they allowed to stand in L1?'.

Yes it would be a very tempting tactic to put pressure on the club. However it would be detrimental to our fellow supporters and I would rather have different elements of our support embrace each other rather than be against each other as this would only make it easier for the club to deny us any further concessions. I would rather use the tactic of 'Well if we've had to sit down then could you please ask those people in the away section to sit down as well'. This would be better but I expect even that may not be used as it goes against one of the main principles of our group.
Shrenchel Posted 10 August 2010 Posted 10 August 2010 Barclay will never get L1 sitting and he knows it. Him and his bootboys are all chat. It's always 'next season' or 'next few games' that the crackdown will apparently begin. Hardly needs meticulous planning to get on your radio and tell 15 cvnts in shiny coats to ask some people to sit down. Will never change regardless of what the Fosse Boys get up to, for years and years people in the kop have been moaning at stewards that L1 are all allowed to stand freely.
