Koke Posted 23 May 2010 Posted 23 May 2010 Barney Ronay thinks so. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2010/may/22/barcelona-cesc-fabregas-barney-ronay
Shrenchel Posted 23 May 2010 Posted 23 May 2010 Agreed, Annoying cvnts, shit fans. There's only one team in Barcelona.
Bugg Posted 23 May 2010 Posted 23 May 2010 Agreed, Annoying cvnts, shit fans. There's only one team in Barcelona. Espanyol?
Guest DavidJCW Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Agree with everything in that article. I can't stand them... regardless of how good they are, the fact that they seem to just assume it's their given right to win everything is beyond annoying. That and everyone swooning over bloody Messi... I mean for ****s sake, someone put a tackle in on the guy! Get him over here to Britain to play week in week out and then we'll see if he can dance his way round rough defences that actually commit in a challenge!!!

If Messi was born and grew up in England, he wouldn't even get a look in at youth level. He would be passed on for being too short and too weak. I don't hate Barcelona. I find them annoying due to a few things. The constant wankfest surrounding them has seriously gotten on my tits, and I was happy Inter owned them. Also, there's a sense of holier than thou mentality amongst them and their supporters. Chelsea and Real Madrid don't try and hide what they are. They know they are preposterous vile cunts and they make no apologies about that. I don't hate them. I hate Coventry and Wolves and Liverpool. I dislike Nottingham Forest and Portsmouth. I hate how everybody thinks you should like Barcelona, and how all the neutrals are shocked if you don't like them. Barca are just annoying.
potter3 Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 ..someone who might own a coffee table made out of barbed wire. I don't mind Barca, there's plenty of other team I prefer, though.
Guest ttfn Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 People calling them 'Barca' annoys me. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1269852/Bravo-Jose-Mourinho-dousing-Barcelona-myth--MARTIN-SAMUEL.html Great article but I think Martin Samuel has it in for them (just type in martin samuel barcelona on google).
Edmund Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Barcelona play the best football in Europe without a doubt. Their bound to attract the medias attention for all the right reasons. I'm not sure what's quite annoying about that. Just like Arsenal fans the Barca fans are bound to have an arrogant outlook but in my opinion their entitled too, it's no mean feat to play attractive football. Surely when your team includes arguably the worlds best player and is putting on magical performances week in week out there is bound to be a media love in?

World's best player cause everyone pussy foots around him in Spain as they are afraid of getting their shorts muddy by putting in a decent tackle. Like I said, get him over here to play week in week out and then we'll see if he can really hack it at the top level of the game!

Shrenchel Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Also fvcks me off how they pretend they're all about ethical values and all this bollocks. They're about as ethical as the nonce wing at Belmarsh.
Edmund Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Like I said, get him over here to play week in week out and then we'll see if he can really hack it at the top level of the game! What the fuck are you on about?
Finnegan Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Eh. I like their style of football and I don't feel the juvenile, hipster compulsion to stop liking something the moment it becomes popular so I don't really feel any need to hate Barcelona.
dandannieldanok Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Never liked them, the only time I've wanted them to win a football match was the 09 Champs League final against Manchester United. I can definitely see the point the author of that article is making. Eh. I like their style of football and I don't feel the juvenile, hipster compulsion to stop liking something the moment it becomes popular so I don't really feel any need to hate Barcelona. I don't think this article, or anything else, has suddenly made it 'popular' to hate/dislike Barcelona. I guarantee more people like them than dislike them, plenty of people spend hundreds of euros on membership and tickets to go watch them.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 What the fuck are you on about? That was a one off game against airy fairy Arsenal who try to play like Barcelona. I'm talking about him getting over here to play week in week out against rough and tough defences... ones that'll properly get stuck in. Much of the time that doesn't mean that Champions League teams, that means the likes of Everton and Bolton who really have a go at you.

Number 6 Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 I But perhaps the most annoying thing is that so many players now feel bound to emote that it is "their dream" to play for them. If the whole set up has made players feel like this then Barca are obviously cleverer than he thinks. A little bit annoying maybe, but I love to watch them play. There are teams who act worse over transfers anyway, Man U with Berbatov for example.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 Barcelona, boring. I don't know why people are bringing Lionel Messi into this for, this thread wasn't about him for once
Uncle Albert Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 Yep, liverpool are much more exciting to watch. At what point in my post did I say Liverpool were more exciting? I've never like Barcelona and probably won't start liking them, I find the La Liga on the whole boring and two-sides dominate it so yeah I find Barcelona pretty boring, the same goes for Real Madrid but I like them because Ronaldo is there and I like there players more.

Anish Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 World's best player cause everyone pussy foots around him in Spain as they are afraid of getting their shorts muddy by putting in a decent tackle. Like I said, get him over here to play week in week out and then we'll see if he can really hack it at the top level of the game! so your idea of defending is hacking him every time he touches the ball or kicking the sh*t outta him? That was a one off game against airy fairy Arsenal who try to play like Barcelona. I'm talking about him getting over here to play week in week out against rough and tough defences... ones that'll properly get stuck in. Much of the time that doesn't mean that Champions League teams, that means the likes of Everton and Bolton who really have a go at you. He's proved himself at the highest level in club football, he's torn apart La Liga and he'd do likewise against mediocre teams like Everton and Bolton. Just because "airy fairy" Arsenal can't hack it oop north it doesn't mean Barca are the same. Better defences than Everton's and Bolton's have tried to stop him and failed - do you think the Spanish and European teams just let him waltz past them without trying to stop him? No doubt you'd love to see a Martin Taylor-esque or Shawcross type challenge on Messi to see how he handles it. The author of that article is a tool. If he wasn't so biased he might have a point but when his article denigrates into a personal attack on the manager's attire it shows he's lost the plot. Barcelona play beautiful football and naturally the best players want to play for them. Who wouldn't play for Barca if given half a chance?
Guest Bilo Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 I've stayed away from this thread for everybody's good but I've resisted the temptation too long now, and am going to throw in my two pennies worth. Barcelona ARE more than a club in a different way to most other clubs in the world for the following reason. They are considered to be a representative of freedom, nationalism and anti-fascism. Barcelona is the Catalan club, a representative of a nation that was brutally suppressed by Franco's fascist forces in the years after the Spanish Civil War. Thousands of volunteers from around Europe travelled to Spain to fight the ultimately unsuccessful war for the Republicans, and Catalans were among the foremost soldiers in the war as they fought for their cultural freedoms which were threatened by the Castilian fascists. After Franco's victory, Spanish patriotism and royalism was obsessively promoted to the extent that all other cultures that were not considered to be Castilian (i.e. traditional Spanish) were denigrated. This included a ban on the use of non-Spanish languages and symbols in public life and led to FC Barcelona being renamed the Spanish CF Barcelona and being forced to remove the Catalan flag from its crest. The same thing happened to the Basque club Athletic Bilbao (who were forcibly renamed Atletico Bilbao) and several other organisations. On a wider level, the Catalan language was banned in almost all public places in Catalonia and Spain itself. Except the Camp Nou. This is where Barcelona's significance comes into play. Barcelona did indeed become 'more than a club', it became a kind of standard bearer not only for Catalonia, but for all those oppressed by the fascists. Real Madrid's status as Franco's team, the team of fascism, brought them into direct conflict with Barcelona on and off the field, and the accusations of match fixing through intimidation still hang heavy in the air. The very name Camp Nou was banned for some time as it is Catalan for 'New Field', and until 2000 the official name was Estadi Barcelona when the name that was banned for so long became the official title. These things seem petty, but language is such an intrinsic part of a nation's culture, these things become hugely important and take on exaggerated significance. Even today, many in Spain still consider Barcelona the team of the political left, and Real the team of the right. While those oppressive days are long gone today, Barcelona's role hasn't been forgotten. Whether they are still an ethical club or not today is not really the point, the point is what they represented for many people for many years. Anyway, moving away from the history lesson. Nobody who loves the game could possibly dislike the way Barcelona play. It's a purist's dream played by some of the greatest players in the world. What's not to like? Messi probably wouldn't last all that long in the English game, but does that really say a lot for the Premiership? The fact that one of the most talented men to play the game in a generation would be kicked all over the pitch by talentless thugs, hardly something to take pride in. Besides, he does get kicked in La Liga as well but dusts himself down and gets on with it. I remember watching him get kicked for 90 minutes at the Camp Nou against Getafe in February and he still looked hungrier than Bernard Manning at an all you can eat restaurant. For a little man, he has balls of steel. So to summarise, it's a bit of a silly article.
