maddog Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 2010 World Cup Cup Team Gary Lineker will anchor the BBC's coverage of the 2010 World Cup from South Africa, fronting all major matches including games featuring England. The BBC's nightly highlights show will be presented by Match of the Day 2 host Colin Murray. BBC reporters from both live matches and around South Africa include Gabby Logan, Dan Walker, Rob Walker and Colin Patterson. The BBC will bring five commentators to the World Cup, these being Guy Mowbray, Jonathan Pearce, Steve Wilson, Simon Brotherton and Steve Bower, who will be partnered by co-commentators Mark Lawrenson, Mark Bright, Mick McCarthy and Martin Keown. The BBC's expert panel of Football Pundits will include Jurgen Klinsmann, Clarence Seedorf, Emmanuel Adebayor, Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer, Lee Dixon and Gordon Strachan. I have to say i'm much preferring the BBC coverage so far mainly down to the lack of adverts and lack of Adrian Chiles.
ousefox Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 Much prefer BBC. Can't remember them making cock ups like missing the goal in the England game for ITV HD viewers or that Everton goal in that game last year...
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 Not so much the analysis that bothers me, just the fooking adverts with ITV all the time during half time and before, the commentary is shit especially from Cilve Tyldsley and Any Townsend, and the camera work and coverage is awful too! BBC all the way!
FoxyPV Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 ITV's coverage is the biggest pile of donkey wank. Edgar Davids spent the past 20 minutes huffing. Twat - still hasn't got over the fact we didn't want him!
leicesterfox86 Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 The BBC aren't great, but ITV are beyond awful. I wish they'd up their game a little bit as it might make the BBC realise they can't get away with idiots like Shearer for ever. James Richardson should be hosting someone's coverage too.
Mack Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 I also voted BBC, but Mark Lawrenson needs giving the elbow, or some strong antidepressants. IF he has nothing good to say and he would rather be somewhere else there are plenty who would do a much better job. Like Graham Le Saux who was doing a superb job as a pundit until he vanished.

BBC all the way! I doubt they have any influence on the camera work.
Corky Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 Both have their good and bad points, I'd say BBC is better. Fan of Jon Champion's commentary though, he's a big plus for ITV.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 Such a shame Sky don't have the WC. I know not everyone has it but their coverage outstrips BBC and ITV combined. ITV rubbush by the way. I'm turning off the sound and not listening to any of the pre- post-match drivel.

I'm turning off the sound and not listening to any of the pre- post-match drivel. Are you fooking serious? Although Sky have by far the better coverage, the WC is a sport of general interest and it would be fooking stupid if they were allowed to have it.
marbelladave Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 The BBC is pretty poor but ITV is totally shit! Sadly using freeview the Radio 5 commentary is well out of sync with the pictures so that is not really an option. Generally I watch the game with the commentary quite low and listen to Radio 3 for much of the build up and analysis.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 I suppose we should be glad Pleat isnt one either of them! I know he got sacked from ITV hopefully from BBC too.
Matt Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 This isn't even a debate surely? I wish ITV went bust, or lost the rights to football atleast.
Maybes Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 Edgar Davids talks alot of shite. BBC all the way - Lawro constantly slatting and moaning makes me chuckle

The Doctor Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 Are you fooking serious? Although Sky have by far the better coverage, the WC is a sport of general interest and it would be fooking stupid if they were allowed to have it. could they not screen along side a terrestrial channel like they do with the Champions league? Besides i'm sure you could find a pub showing all the games if you looked hard enough so it's not certain you'll miss anything from the WC being on sky.
Bugg Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 Screening alongside the terrestrial channels is okay, but giving them a share of the world cup games outright is ridiculous as not everyone can get to a pub, and don't want to stay there and watch all of the WC games on that day.

Guest Mee-9 Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 I prefer BBC, No gay adverts, Shearer as a pundit. What else do you need? One down side is I struggle to understand Adebayor. But I'd rather try to decipher than listen to the muppets that are Southgate and Tyldesley
samjohnson Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 BBC - No adverts... thank god I was watching on Standard Def... I switched to HD 15 minutes in BBC - Lack of Adrian Chiles - Always a good thing BBC - Always good coverage...
dandannieldanok Posted 14 June 2010 Posted 14 June 2010 BBC all the way. You actually get to see live goals on the BBC instead of adverts. BBC also have fantastic radio coverage on 5live. Everything is streets ahead of ITV. Can't understand why the papers are creaming over Chiles' presenting, he just reads the autocue and carries out what is rehearsed like any other presenter would. The only redeeming feature on ITV is Gareth Southgate, they should swap him Alan Shearer and they'll have their line-up pretty much spot on then.
