Pre-season, things seem to be going well. A couple of wins with no lack of goals and DJ scoring. Hopefully this'll see him going into the new season with confidence, as Fryatt's pre-season scoring run before 08-09 seemed to bolster him. Hard to say how well we've actually been playing and adapting to Sousa's style without being able to watch or listen to the games though. Ah well, Peterborough on Tuesday will sort that out.

Sounds like the passing game seems to be benefitting the Deej.

We are playing more of a passing game right? Not really heard too much about how different our style of play has been tbh, just assuming.

Just got back from this game (live in Sheffield in case you are wondering). Game was a bit like attack and defence for the most part with City knocking it aroung and getting the odd shot away. Rotherham hitting just on the break. First half was the first team; Kennedy looks a really good left back, confident in possession and a good crosser, Wellens did his usual foot on the ball stuff and Gallagher played much more central and seemed to like the pass and go stuff. Adams was a disappointment at right back - not strong enough really. But the stand out class player on the night was Campbell. Quick, extremely strong and a fantastic finish. Looks the player he always should have been.

Glad to hear about Kennedy, really think he'll be one to look out for this season.

A bit disappointed, although unsurprised, in your assessment of Adams at full back.

2-1, that will do and DJ on the mark again.

Not fantastic by the sound of it and plenty to work on. Think sousa will have a fair idea now where he needs to improve within the squad.

Could have been worse BURY 4-0 LEEDS

lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

I remember everyone pissing themselves when Newcastle got spanked in pre-season last year...

Well done DJ again and it's nice to hear a match report from someone at the game!

Sounds as if he has the core of a good team (Paulo) just needs to find those little gems now in the transfer market  *Akos Buzasky & Orlandi* and I think we could do even better than last season...

Bring on Palace!!! :trumpet:

Be interesting to see what the people who went have to say. Nice to see Dj bag again. If he stays, lets hope he can keep this up.

Gallagher is one of the best players in the squad. Technically he is quality.

Always seems to get unnecessary stick though because he doesn't do the fans 'get stuck in' mentality.

Would appear this new approach is suiting him well, as it is for the DJ.

As I've said before, if this approach can bring about a change for the better, then fantastic. Long may this continue.

Pace. Power. Keep the ball on the floor.

You have the beating of 3/4 of this league right there.

Extraordinary to read so much drooling about DJ when hardly anyone had a good word to say about him last season when Pearson's idea of giving him a chance was taking the piss. DJ has never had a proper break at City which is extraordinary considering how short of pace, goals and ideas we were on so many occasions.

The two real negative things from tonight were Weale who had an absolute 'mare of a half (rather it happen now though) and Adams, normally I'd say it's far too early to really judge but if tonight is anything to go by right back is not the position for him, Morrison was never comfortable with him playing there and it looked like he was always looking to cover for him, leaving a massive hole in the centre which their front two went through a few too many times. Oh and Robbie was his usual self, I'll leave it there.

I'd say pretty much everyone else was steady, stand outs were big Steve, he was excellent in the half he played and DJ who looked lively and it was a cracking finish, also thought Verma looked fairly decent, probably because my expectations were fairly low.

Howard did not have a good game at all, unsure as to how you managed to come to such a conclusion.

I thought DJ had a great game, he played on the left, the right, and up top and did a good job in each position, and scored a decent enough goal while he was at it.

Kennedy also played well and looked solid at the back and passed the ball fairly well, I also thought Hobbs was almost flawless,

and as for Weale, sure he gave away the pen, but no way did he have a mare, he kept the ball on the deck and passed it well to Hobbs Morrison and Wellens respectively, which I am

sure he was told to do; so I think he did ok.

I remember him having two or three good efforts one a header and one a sharp turn and shot, he had an assist and his link up play was decent, as for Weale we'll have to agree to disagree, I though he was poor.

I have to agree with foxyouforest, weale did nearly give away two goals through mis controling the ball he seemed to be a little disinterested

For once, I will agree with you here

Some interesting performances last night DJ and Hobbs had good games, Kennedy looked fairly comfortable at full-back, not convinced about Adams at full-back though, of some of the others Fryatt looked rusty and Weale (well it was only a Friendly) looked shaky.

So frustrating not being at the game.

The Foxes Player commentary (until it's early demise) placed equal blame on Weale and Kennedy for the cock ups and suggested Kennedy was shaky, particularly early on. Adams needs time to try and grow into the fullback role, but the whole back 4 was experimental, two new full backs and Hobbs on his less favoured (left) side was always going to take time to gel. Weale's lack of communication with his defenders remains a worry and with new players in defence seems even worse than usual. Really needs sorting!

The midfield seemed to be all Wellens, King barely got a mention in commentary. Gallagher seemed involved playing in the hole, seemed prepared to track back too, I've been banging on about getting him more involved centrally, frustrating not to have seen this.

Howard appeared less involved than usual as we appeared to play few long balls, Dyer seemed busy but DJ barely got a mention first half when he was asked to play wide. Looks to have taken his goal well, but at that point the commentary was lost so...:dunno:

Anyone who was at the game and can take time to comment would be much appreciated...

I posted briefly last night after returning from the game - mainly to highlight the performance of Campbell. The OS will describe the game in terms of goal incidents but the context was that Leicester had the majority of ball - as you would expect against a 4th tier team.

So the major change from last season is the passing - starting with Weale rolling the ball out rather than kicking - and then looking for short passes, mostly around Wellens. The outcome is pleasing on the eye but still tending to break down on the edge of the box or leading to long range efforts from Gallagher. True, Dyer did get away down the left once or twice and Adams who I think was instructed to play very forward got out wide a few times - in particular to take a 50 yard pass from Hobbs deep in his own half - but there was generally a lack of width. However it is early days.

Second half was an almost entirely different team which did not pass so crisply and did not have the creativity of Wellens and Gallagher. No-one seemd to play defensive midfield so there were more gaps when Rotherham broke forward and went on to miss the target. Campbell played more central this half and was always involved. The OS talks about linking with Fryatt; maybe once or twice but Campbell was going looking for the ball and was quick enough and strong enough to keep it. The thing about the goal was the quality of the strike, it seemd to fizz in.

As for the others, Howard was himself - 5 quick passes end with Steve who stops turns round looks up and the energy has gone. Also he won lots in the air except when Weales's goal kicks went too long and on 3 or 4 occasions they had a shouting match from 60 yards apart. He did of course win the header that led to Gallagher's goal. Weale was just not with it. Not just the penalty where he hesitated before catching the forward (just outside the box I thought). He was slow coming for a few balls and was even caught in possession by Le Fondre but recovered. Fryatt ran down a few blind alleys, N"Guessan was strong but never looks like a winger to me. Hobbs and Morrison made one mistake each which might well have been punished by a better team but both look very solid if lacking pace on the turn. Adams I mentioned last night. I know there's a lot of goodwill going on for him but he was bullied out of balls a couple of times in a defensive position and that doesn't bode well. Kennedy I also mentioned and he did look very good. This is despite the back pass which led to the penalty. I have to admit I didn't see it clearly but I do think Weale should have got there.

So, work in progress. Will be interesting to see where it all goes especially with the inevitable new signings - hopefully right back a priority. A final word for Lee Jobber. There was a raffle at half time after tickets were sold in connection with the death of a local lad in Afghanistan. The presentation party stood on pitch side and called the winning number, After a couple of minutes a huge figure on crutches appeared from the Away corner and hobbled half the length of the pitch to pick up his prize - a signed Rotherham shirt which looked about the size of a handkerchief in his hands. I wa sitting on the halfway line with the home fans and they were suitably impressed.

I went last night. Definitely a few positives to take from last night, and one big surprise for me.

Quite honestly, I can't work out the DJ situation. Because last night I was so impressed with his work rate and performance overall, capped off with a fine goal to go with it. That being his third in succession of course. Is he playing because he wants to make it here, or is he playing to earn himself a move away? Whatever the case, if Campbell puts in work and effort like that I have absolutely no problems with him being a Leicester City player. It makes all the difference. If Sousa's playing him in every game I'd guess that he wants him in his squad anyway, so we may well be seeing a lot of him next season if things keep up.

Elsewhere, you can see early signs of the Sousa influence. The first half was a bit drab, us scoring after a nice move. Dyer put in a cross from the left which was knocked down by Howard for Gallagher to finish off nicely from about 12 yards. In the second half we were a much brighter unit, and there were several passing moves in and around the area which were very encouraging. It's always difficult to gauge style of play against "lesser" opposition, but I rarely saw a long ball played from anywhere on the pitch. Generally I think there were some encouraging passages of play.

Weale looked very dodgy I have to say. In one incident he had the ball at his feet, knocked it a little ahead of himself ready to kick upfield, waited way too long with an obviously advancing striker right onto himand got lucky to save his own blushes by diving at the forward's feet. Gave away the penalty with a poorly timed challenge, along with a few other incidents as well which were suspect to say the least.

Elsewhere I thought all the youth teamers did very well and didn't look too far out of place, and I'll be interested to see how those boys get on next year. It'd be superb to see one or two break into the first team, but as we know it's always a difficult task.

Kennedy was the second player along with Campbell who impressed me a lot, and if last night was anything to go by we have a perfect understudy for Berner if and when required.

Sorrelite and Joe - Thanks for that....

If either of you have the time, how did the midfield line up, particularly King and Wellens. As far as the commentary went Wellens appeared to run the show, King barely got a mention...

How did that work out with Gallagher in the hole, both he and Wellens trying to run the show?

DJ started out wide, how did that work out first half?

Anyone else impress?

Sorry to be a pest, but I am excited by the new regime. Trying to get away to go to Oxford on Saturday, if I make it I will let you know what I see / think...
