Useless, overpaid, lazy has been who is not committed to the club or the fans, worst captain ever! Last straw for me was derby away last season, disrespectful! Awful captain, no leadership qualities, good riddance to bad rubbish. Hobbs for captain!!!

He has hardly been useless or lazy either, ok so he might not be at the top of his game any more and this was shown in the latter stages of the season, but heres a guy who captained us to the League 1 title with ease, then played and captained the side in the majority of the season that got us to the play offs. If that is bad, I'd like to know how bad you think other players are.

He is a good steady pro and to be fair his age has caught up with him and running the middle of the park is sadly beyond him now I would probably be happy to have him shipped out but his wages would be pretty high (if not highest) so I cant imagine many League One clubs tempting him unless its Southampton So has he played any pre-season??

Yes he has, mainly coming off the bench from what i've gathered.

Wdywd Posted 26 July 2010 Posted 26 July 2010 Whether he 'loves' the club or not isn't really relevant to me, I'm more worried about how he plays. I thought his age seemed to catch up with him a lot towards the end of last season. Seemed a passenger in that side, and one central midfielder who doesn't score is more than enough, we don't need two. If we play 2 centre mids this season, he won't get in the team, I spose he's decent enough as backup though. I'm really not thrilled at the idea of selling more players now anyway given how small the squad is.

You're fooking shit!!', i'd be a very rich man. On this basis, i'd like to see him go so I dont have to put up with it.
eaststandtom Posted 26 July 2010 Posted 26 July 2010 granted oakley did not perform as well as we'd have hoped last season but i would go as far as saying that without him in the team in league one we would not have achieved automatic promotion such was, i feel, his influence on games. one particular game away, freezing our arses off at northampton stands out. the football was ugly, city went one down and it had all the hall marks off a defeat but oakley took the game by the scruff of the neck and won all the loose balls and his running and anticipation off the ball was top drawer. i was hoping for more from him last season, as a player with 250 premiership games should deliver better performances but whatever hapens his contribution in getting us out of the 3rd fooking division should not be forgotten

He was very good in League 1 and scored something like 8/9 goals too. If he was shit and overrated, how would you describe Stephen Hughes, Gareth Williams, Junior Lewis, Dennis Wise, and other central midfielders we have had in recent years.

Being less shit than Junior Lewis is not exactly an achievement. And yeah, he was decent in League One, that should have no influence on whether we get rid of him or not now though.

It's irrelevant talking about the shit we had in the past like lewis & Hughes, it's what we have now that's important and oakley was below par all last season and to top it all off was disrespectful to all us fans against derby away when he disregarded us to solute his beloved sheep shaggers. Also for most of last season he was played out of position, has played a hell of a lot of games in the last 2 seasons for someone his age. And the whole Derby thing is ridiculous. He had a good spell at Derby and their fans appreciated him, our 'fans' booed him, i know who i would rather clap..

teblin Posted 26 July 2010 Posted 26 July 2010 Don't know how true it is but I read somewhere he played a lot of last season with a knock. Which make a great difference too the way you play. Oakley is a good player who had not the best season. Too call him lazy is crazy as he always works hard. I'd certainly keep him in the squad what better could we get realistically with little cash?
