caz05 Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Don't know how true it is but I read somewhere he played a lot of last season with a knock. Which make a great difference too the way you play. Oakley is a good player who had not the best season. Too call him lazy is crazy as he always works hard. I'd certainly keep him in the squad what better could we get realistically with little cash? Yes he did play with an injury, and had injections to get him through games, considering he was out of position most of the time and with injury, i dont think he deserves to be called lazy or shit.
caz05 Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Lead us to a leage one title, no leadership? How do you know this..didnt realise you were on the pitch or in the dressing room with the players. Also for most of last season he was played out of position, has played a hell of a lot of games in the last 2 seasons for someone his age. And the whole Derby thing is ridiculous. He had a good spell at Derby and their fans appreciated him, our 'fans' booed him, i know who i would rather clap.. Well said mate
caz05 Posted 27 July 2010 Posted 27 July 2010 Oakley is apparently on his way out to a league 1 side. Finally! Useless, overpaid, lazy has been who is not committed to the club or the fans, worst captain ever! Last straw for me was derby away last season, disrespectful! Awful captain, no leadership qualities, good riddance to bad rubbish. Hobbs for captain!!! Wow what great comment not. Played out of position for most of the season, plus had injections in his injury so he could play,so if he wasnt committed why do that could have sat on his ass for half the season. And so what he clapped the derby fans, what did you want him to do if they applauded him, ignore them, that to me is disrespectful
Longy the Fox Posted 14 August 2010 Posted 14 August 2010 MATT OAKLEY LEY LEY HE'S CAPTAIN OF CITY MATT OAKLEY LEY LEY HE'S THE INE WHO HOLDS THE KEY PASS ON THE LEFT ON THE RIGHT JUMP UP N DOWN N SING HIS NAME MATT OAKLEY LEY LEY CAPTAIN OF CITY! Captains new song! come on lets bring in some new songs!
Wymsey Posted 14 August 2010 Posted 14 August 2010 Yes i am a clown but i thought Oakley really performed the best out our midfield today
philce Posted 14 August 2010 Posted 14 August 2010 He actually played ok today surprisingly. Who showed him how to take corners over the summer? Some of the ones he took were awesome! Lets just hope he can keep playing like this!
Unabomber Posted 14 August 2010 Posted 14 August 2010 Who showed him how to take corners over the summer? Some of the ones he took were awesome! Lets just hope he can keep playing like this! Yeah against other teams we would more than likely have scored from one of those corners, but today Boro defended extremely well Wheater was immense.
Corky Posted 14 August 2010 Posted 14 August 2010 He had a good game today, his passing was better and he threw himself into tackles. Much improved.
DB11 Posted 14 August 2010 Posted 14 August 2010 If anyone buys a programme then there is a new article in it 'Captain's Column' and he says how he didn't like playing last season on the right.
Unabomber Posted 14 August 2010 Posted 14 August 2010 If anyone buys a programme then there is a new article in it 'Captain's Column' and he says how he didn't like playing last season on the right. Yeah I read it as if he was blaming Pearson for his shocking form.
maccfox Posted 15 August 2010 Posted 15 August 2010 Turn it in boys!!! how on earth can any of you have a go at Oakley for clapping Derby fans when they applauded him?? How two faced are you? Iain Hume got a great reception when he came back last year as was Martyn Waghorn in the pre season friendly. I havent heard supporters of Barnsley and Sunderland reacting the same way when their players reacted the same way towards us?. You are allowed to dislike Oakley as a player but dont make up juvenile reasons for hating him. Not many players get warm receptions from previous clubs!!
Corky Posted 15 August 2010 Posted 15 August 2010 Yeah I read it as if he was blaming Pearson for his shocking form. Looked that way. In League 1 he played wide-right and seemed to be more effective in that role, more licence to go forward, but last year it wasn't the same, possibly the better quality of opposition playing a part. So far this season he looks better in central midfield, and certainly livelier.

It was the fact that when he got subbed off, he turned to each side of the Derby support before turning to us, which is what the uproar was about. The people on here with half a brain appreciate that he had a decent spell for them and accept that he wanted to applaud them back, but not before his current club and one of our most fierce rivals. That's a massive kick in the balls.

Yesterday for instance, he came over to take a corner in the second half and there was barely a ripple of applause despite him playing really really well. 10 minutes later Paul Gallagher comes over and gets a standing ovation even though he'd done sod all.

And people were drooling over dj. Not that i'm fussed one way or the other over dj but it's becoming an LCFC theme to pile greater adulation on past players like Hume and the likes of dj than they do those that have stuck around. At least that's my overwhelming impression.

If Oakley has a defence it's in my opinion that he stuck around and played a role for Pearson that wasn't his style of football and made him look pretty below average most games. I think he'll at least get a chance under Sousa to play football that gives him opportunity to generate a degree of admiration from the fans.
I-Love-Ryan-McGivern Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 We also shouldn't forget his below par performances that got us to league one in the first place. We would have still won league one without him. Over rated and shit! His hearts still with derby and his legs have had it! Worst captain ever! Best captin ever
Houdini Logic Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 I hope Oakley goes just so the guy in front of me stops moaning about him. Oakley is the new Howard who in turn was the new Maybury

He used to be prolific at Southampton from what I remember. There's no doubt the guy can play football

Makes me laugh the people that sit in front of me who shout out DJs name all game,i mean come on be honest its about time he earnt some of the high wages he has been paid. He has done fook all yet in my opinion to have his name cheered all game, where as oakley played out of position last season and help take us straight out of league 1. Oakley is a good player and i cant believe the shit the bloke gets
MrSpaM Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 It's becoming more and more obvious that a lot of things people didn't like about players in our squad were down to Pearson, then again he brought the best out in players like Fryatt. Oakley was chasing balls down CONSTANTLY on saturday and looked a lot sharper, makes you wonder what Pearson was asking of him last season.
Dr The Singh Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 He did ok against borough, his short range passing was ok, he closed the play when he could, but he was no stallion, he doesn't have the ability to impact and drive the game, plus as a defensive midfielder he's not quick or good enough in the tackle. His long range passing was awful!! Overall, with 2 other midfielders beside him, he is ok but would struggle with only 1. In an attacking sense he is poor and in terms of a holding midfielde he is ok!
