Parking Just Got Harder

any one actually no what roads are effected by these permits?? as it just says 'some' on the report? The park and ride seems like a good idea from enderby, but just having to walk back to the city centre to get it back puts me off a bit!

The trial will cover the streets between Narborough Road and the Great Central Way, north of Upperton Road and south of Braunstone Gate.

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl

I'd interpret that as all the Roads from Equity Road to Ruding Rd..

Conveniently sited for M1 Junction 21. This will take people to St. Nicholas Place, at the top of High Street (convenient for Highcross, The Lanes and other shops).

At St. Nicholas Place passengers can alight from the Enderby Service, or remain on the bus, which then goes round a short central loop where they can alight (and board) at:

Pocklington's Walk - Horsefair Street - Welford Place - Oxford Street - Infirmary Road for (Leicester Royal Infirmary and Tigers).

The bus returns to St. Nicholas Place to pick up passengers before returning to Enderby.

I assume from those statements that after getting to Infirmary Road it returns to Nicholas Place and then back to Enderby which means you can get back on it at the Infirmary to return to Enderby via St Nicholas Place.

There's no easier way of describing it than that. You'll still be able to park the other side of Narborough Road, but there isn't going to be a lot of room there as every man and his dog will be cramming into that area. I live in it and I'm dreading it - I've been desperate for residents' only parking for years and now it's coming in we're not actually getting it, but they're getting it just down the road - the worst possible outcome for us. I think there'll be punch ups. People already do that cvnty thing where they leave their wheelie bins in the road to save their spot

Cheshire Fox.It's called Putney Road. The industrial part is Commercial Square.

I've always parked there as well, for £3, you're 5 mins from stadium, go up to dry dock for a swift one pre match and the parking fee goes to charity. All great.

Yes it is a bitch to get out of if you aren't one of the first out the block and its one way to make it worse. Although if you get in early and park on the Putney Road car parks (I think there are only 2 on Putney Road) instead of commercial square its easier to get out as that part isn't one way yet. But just stick radio Leicester on and you'll be so angry at the callers that the time will fly by :)

Also, don't be tempted to park ont he grass, it doesnt matter how many others do it, the wardens have been known to ticket every car there. I asked a warden about it once and he said it was ok, but then another said its ok but only if you're fully on the grass, you can't touch or hang over the curb. So since i wasnt sure, i just pay the £3. At worst you queue on the way out, its not the end of the world.

ah yes thats right, thanks (am rubbish at remembering road names!). i usually manage to get there in time to get onto one of the putney road sites which is as you say much better, but i'm fairly relaxed about the queuing as you say- you can listen to the moan in and that passes the time! fully recommended, cant really imagine why someone would use this as a reason to not go to the game, when as you say you can go for a swift pint before the game and know that your (reasonable) £3 is actually going to charity too. no problems that i can see in this parking change (unless everyone comes along and starts nicking all the spaces in the Putney Road car parks) :blink:

We got asked if we wanted a similar scheme as we live near the cricket ground & Saffron Lane shops but it got rejected. I have to park on the road.

Im of the opinion that if you get that het up about parking outside your own house, buy a house with a driveway! We didnt so I dont see I have any reason to moan.

Some of my neighbours are ridiculous about the cars outside but were pretty chilled about it for the reasons stated.....

I have far more important things to worry about to be honest. <_<

I cannot speak for everyone involved, but from the meetings I've been to about the West End scheme, relatively few people have moaned about football fans parking because as others have noted, this has always happened and as it's only an occasional thing they can live with it (I of course don't give a toss because I'm at the games). The problem is though that it's becoming a constant issue. I've little sympathy with people who get excited over not being able to park immediately outside their own house, but when it's getting to the point when you're driving round the whole blooming neighbourhood, let alone up and down your own street, to find a space, it's not surprising people get a bit uptight.

I might offer the council a couple of grand to have my own personal space outside my house. That would be great, apart from having to stop people constantly setting light to my car.

The cheaper alternative is to feign disability*

* Not a serious suggestion

I used to live off narborough road and many family mambers still do and I agree the gripe isn't against the footy fans parking but mainly the daily rigmoral of finding parking. Parking is scarce because of students who travel to the university and people who work at the hospital!!

Request for use of County Hall Car Park for Leicester City Football Club Park and Ride Scheme.

* Meeting of Planning and Environment Scrutiny Committee for the period 20th June 2001 to 22nd May 2002, Thursday, 20 December 2001 2.00 pm (Item 76.)

* View the background to item 76.

Minutes:

The Committee considered a report of the Director of Property concerning a recent request from Leicester City Football Club (LCFC) for use of the County Hall site to provide a Park and Ride location for its new stadium and the decision of the Cabinet thereon. A copy of the report, marked ‘D’, is filed with these minutes.

The Chairman welcomed Mr. Charles Rayner, Director of Operations at LCFC, who had kindly agreed to attend the meeting to explain more about the Club’s request and to respond to questions from members.

During the discussion between members of the Committee and Mr. Rayner the following points/comments were made:-

· Mr. Rayner said that the LCFC was committed to consulting fully with local people, and appreciated that there had been concerns at the time of the 1998 application.

· In the light of the requirement for 2 Park and Ride sites to be in place by August 2002, alternatives were being sought. The Club could opt to run more than the required 2 sites; and spread the total number of car parking spaces over several. Mr. Rayner said that it had been envisaged that the County Hall site would be used by people living locally in Glenfield and in the north-west of the County, not a large number.

* The Director of Property confirmed that in 1998 LCFC had requested 500 car parking spaces, but were currently asking for 150-200.

· Matches on weekday evenings were expected to be relatively few in number, and not resulting in traffic at Park and Ride sites much later than 9.30-10.00pm. Perhaps an area of the car park furthest from the residential areas would be satisfactory. Alternatively, other Park and Ride sites might be used on weekday evenings, and County Hall only at weekends.

· Mr. Rayner confirmed that a traffic survey would be carried out if the Club’s request was likely to gain approval. Should the County Hall site be used the Club would be happy to review the situation, say 12 months later.

· Members commented that the County Council had a commitment to supporting Park and Ride facilities and reducing the amount of traffic travelling into Leicester.

· Members commented that LCFC was supported by people throughout the County and considered that the County Council should make a positive contribution towards the establishment of the new stadium.

· Members noted that the decision of the Cabinet on 6 November, whilst not encouraging, was not an absolute refusal of the request.

RESOLVED:

(a) That the report be noted; in particular that:

(i) The current proposal put forward by LCFC was for the use of a number of spaces, in the region of 150-200 during the football season, primarily on Saturday afternoons;

(ii) An earlier proposal, put forward in October 1998 for the use of up to 500 spaces, had not been opposed by the County Council;

(iii) LCFC would make arrangements for staffing the site and meeting the costs of ensuring the site was cleaned up after use and of other additional costs, such as lighting, as appropriate;

(iv) The report of the Director of Property referred to the site being used for football supporters on approximately 22 occasions in a season, 8 of which would be mid-week/evening fixtures; the representative of LCFC present at the Committee had stated that its use for mid-week fixtures could be substantially reduced;

(v) The County Hall site had capacity for approximately 1,000 cars and was used on Saturday under existing arrangements for the purposes of a Park and Ride scheme, which attracted, on average, 150 cars per week. There was nothing to stop football supporters using the existing scheme and capacity was available to allow further expansion of the existing arrangements;

(vi) Residents in the local area might have greater objection to the use of the site in the evenings; however, it was proposed that there would be limited use of the site for mid-week fixtures;

(vii) LCFC was prepared to review arrangements after an initial period of, say, 12 months;

(viii) LCFC no longer proposed to hold public meetings in the Glenfield area in light of the current position of the Cabinet not to support the proposal;

(b) That the following representation be made to the Cabinet:

‘That mindful of the support stated in both the Leicestershire and Central Leicestershire Transport Plans for provision of Park and Ride schemes, and bearing in mind that a Park and Ride scheme is already in operation at the County Hall car park, the Cabinet be asked to reconsider its decision made on 6 November 2001’; and

© That the issue be discussed further at a future meeting of the Committee, and that a representative of the local Parish Council, and the lead Cabinet Member be invited to attend that meeting.

apparently you can buy a temporary permit from the machines for £1 which lasts 48 hours..

the location for me is great as its my side of town, easy to walk to the ground from there, and after the game you can get away quick enough to not be caught in any traffic so for £1 i wont mind parking there still..

I think someone may have told you that a bit wrong. The 48 hour ones are the visitors permits and can only be bought by residents with fancy smart cards, as I understand it, but if you know someone there then maybe you could do that.

There will be some pay and display parking on Western Road, (20p for an hour, 50p for 3) but not loads of it so how useful this will be for match goers is open to question.

Explanatory notes, at the end of which is a helpful map showing the affected area and how it's divided up can be found here:

Not too disasterous that. I usually go right at the top of Uperton Road, was late last night so ended up on the corner of Upperton Rise/Ashleigh Road, the walk is a good 20 minutes which doesn't bother me too much. Guess with the closer spots going it means more competition however for few spaces and parkers will just be pushed further back. I'm only ever there for the football but if it's like that all the time with workers and students etc. then I certainly agree with the residents complaints.

cheers.. will see if can find someone with a smartcard then.. looking at that there are a few spaces that can be used free at night so may be ok for midweek games depending how many try and park there...

£25 a year sounds a bargain.

I'm sure my council tax for a house with a garage is jacked up by more than that.

I'll continue using the buses and the trudge back into town after a game; as previous posters have said, a few dedicated shuttles would help out here.

This is an absolute disgrace, the Council should be ashamed of themselves. Where exactly do they expect supporters to park? For a stadium that can hold in excess of 32,000 people surely as part of the planning application someone must have considered where people plan to park their cars? This is purely a money making scam, and i'm sure we'll now see an increasing number of traffic wardens out in force on match days. Let's be honest, I appreciate that it is inconvenient for those who live in the houses, but in fairness they know the score when they buy a house in the area, and also it's only for a couple of hours 1 to 2 days a week.

the reason you will end up paying is to pay these miserable fvcks their overtime....how else are they going to afford it....:frusty:

Leicester City Council have introduced a new residents parking scheme, which may affect supporters visiting King Power Stadium during the coming months.

From 28 October, 2013, local residents will be given priority on parking in the Westcotes area of the city – a popular location on Leicester City matchdays – though some pay and display spaces will be available for visitors from outside the area. The trial has been introduced experimentally and will be reviewed after 18 months.

Leicester City Council have advised visiting motorists that regularly park in the Westcotes area to use park and ride facilities or city centre car parks to avoid congestion, particularly on matchdays.

Further information on the new parking scheme can be found here.

Just looked at the map online, basically now covers every side street off N'boro road, I understand it must be a pain if you live around that area, but when are the government going to stop charging us road tax, as it won't be long before we can't take our cars off our own drive as there is no where to park them!!!

This is really gonna pi$$ me off on night games or sunday matches as I have no option but to drive.

The Government charges no one road tax, and hasn't done since 1937. It charges people a tax on the emissions your vehicle produces (Vehicle Excise Duty). Roads are not funded by this tax, they are funded by local and general taxation.

It's a load of shit and I live there. Ridiculous stealth tax for car owners. We don't give a shit about match day parking, its one or two days a fortnight and it rarely stops us parking at our house.

Now we've got to pay to park in front of our own house every other day of the year. Bag of shit.
