Steve Howard

I liked watching his passion yesterday, although it could have been mistaken for bad attitude. But, I think he should be an impact sub for a good quality striker as you say.

That link up involving him, Moussa and Fryatt was lovely!

Did you go to the game? He looked really frustrated that he wasn't doing his job right most of the time.

I agree with u, Howard does show that bit of passion that we dont sometimes see from other players.

I wouldnt replace Howard, as he's still good enough imo, and certainly has the aerial skills to beat some of the championship defenders.

I'd only replace him if we found a same or better player in his mid 20's, but there like gold dust.

I like Steve and if we are going to play a 4-3-3 formation this season then I think that he will be a key player in holding up the ball (play it to his feet!) and feeding two pacey attacking wingers either side of him. There are a couple of problems with this.

Firstly I'm not confident that we have the pacey attacking wingers to play off him. Dyer is definitely one but with DJ seemingly on the way out I don't see Fryatt, Gallagher or Crncic being able to play this role - and don't get me started on N'Guessan! This also leaves us with the problem of just were do Fryatt and Gallagher fit into this system? For me Fryatt would be the first choice striker in a 4-4-2 but in a 4-3-3 he probabley doesn't feature - no wonder he's reportedly requested a transfer.

Secondly, we appear to have nobody at the club who can play a similar role and Steve is getting on a bit. If we are going to continue playing 4-3-3 then we need a younger version of Howard - the problem being that this will cost £3m+. The only player that I have seen in recent years who fits the bill would be Jay Boothroyd - and we wouldn't have a chance in hell of signing him!

Maybe the answer is for us not to play 4-3-3 and revert back to a 4-4-2 formation with Howard and Fryatt up front - I just don't feel that this is something that fits in with Sousa's style of play.

Punching the ground is not passion, moaning and blaiming everyone else is not passion. He is frustrated though, frustrated at his own inability to be a footballer, thats not passion either. By the way he is crap if you haven't noticed.

Never been a big Howard fan although some of his lay offs were pretty good yesterday but for them to be most effective we would need a striker with pace alongside him. For me he doesn't score or create enough goals to be the spearhead of a team that will get promoted to the Premiership. His shooting technique strikes me as poor and I reckon Kingy has more headers on goal than him over the course of a season. League 1 would be perfect for him in the twilight of his career but given our lack of alternatives I expect him to see out this season with us

he did one decent flick on, for dyer's peno shout, and one decent lay off in the second half.

every other header went nowhere, the few that he actually won.

i like the bloke and you know that he wants so much to do well, but the fact is he can no longer cut it at this level, in the team we have and footy we play.

what he does is ok, there's just not enough of it, and so little else.

same as last year, with kermo, lets hive crncic a chance before he loses confidence, seeing a labouring howard always in the first team.

I have to agree, I don't think Howard can cut it in the championship, especially at the minute as we have no prolific strikers.

He, at best should be an impact sub to throw on up front if losing in the last 15 minutes, like we used to with marshall and walshy.

He hasn't got the ability which was clear to see yesterday when all he could do is toe poke the ball into any empty goal, only to hit readings mills in the head.

But then again,,,,, who else have we got at the minute that wants to play for us

We need howard in the team! BUT I wouldn't start him...Imo, he's a very good impact player, I mean look against Crystal Palace, the defenders didn't have a clue what to do with him, he's such a nuesense and causes alot of mistakes for defenders but if you start him then the other team know that you're just gonna play a long ball game. He linked up well with fryatt when he came on and it could've easily resulted in a goal.

I completly disagree. He shows the most passion out of everyone. Did you go to the palace game? If you did you would have seen the passion he showed after the DJ goal where he made the pass. You can be frustrated and passionate, sometimesthe two go hand in hand. I'm not saying he is the best striker in the world but I don't think you can question his commitement.

He's great to have as an option but we seem to take the easy option of pumping it to him and putting responsibility on him to make things happen. We are far to predictable when having him leading the line from the start. It takes our good footballers out the game and stops us from opening teams up as we did last year.

On the other hand we got promoted playing the same way with Brian Dean up top a few years ago.

Howard is a sub for when you want to mix up your attack, get the ball forward quicker, or to play the ball to his feet so he can hold it up

there is no way he should start

Howard is the sort of player I would love to see coming off the bench in the last quarter. However, it is my view, for what little it is worth, that he is not the player to start a game. My belief is that we need two quality strikers, and a quality first choice goalkeeper.

Sorry to say I think Fryatt ( hard worker though he is), does not fit the bill, as does Logan, despite a brilliant save last night.

This.

The problem with playing him as a striker on his own is that once he's laid it off, it takes him about 5 hours to get into the box for a cross. And of course the fact that he can't shoot to save his life is a slight drawback too.

I have to say, I hate him, but I can see his worth as an impact sub. He has had about 5 good games in his entire Leicester career.

Howard isnt crap. Just a player who will play better against certain teams than he will others. Remember what he did vs Cardiff in the PO's? Didnt hear too many moans about him after that game.

What are you trying to say?

:dunno:

Some people dont see the "behind the scenes" work he puts in sometimes. He will never score many goals but we need him in the side at the moment. We started DJ and Fryatt against palace and they were awful. As soon as howard came on he changed the game.He provides something no one we have does. The only time when I get annoyed with him though is when he doesn't get back onside quickly.

Whats your opinion of Heskey...... honestly?
