Is the game ready for gays?

I'll never understand the issue around homosexuality. Why do people care so much about where other guys stick their dicks? Who gives a shit?

That's what my lawyer said, but apparently the courts have this whole issue with underage girls...

I don't see the need for gays to 'come out'.

Keep your disgusting private life activities to yourselves fudge nudgers. Yuk!

I bet you'd like me nudging your fudge.

We could go to the 'dirtbox derby,' sweetcheeks.

Maybe it would be a therapeutic process and could potentially nudge the prejudice right out of you?

Then you could make new friends:

I couldn't care less about someone's sexual preferences. If they are a good, talented player and have passion and heart that's all that matters to me. Same as any other player or for that matter any other proffession on the planet.

Posted

i don't see why not, it doesn't have any bearing on their ability, atmost you'd get a bit of abuse from the crowd but every player does so they'd get that regardless of whether they came out.

Haha I'm only only joking. I just wanted to use the expression 'fudge nudger'. Then I grossed my self out a bit thinking about it.

I'm serious when I said I don't feel the need for gays to 'come out' and announce their homosexuality though. Thanks for letting me know like but, I really don't give a shite.

Please don't compare me to the Canary supporting simpletons up here! I may live in Norfolk guys but I was born and raised in Shepshed & Kettering respectively before living here.

Interesting topic this.

The game, to a large part still has a major problem with racism in some countries. Is this a step to far ..... guess we'll never know until a major world class player does this. I personally don't have an issue with any players sexuality but like someone has already stated, certain factions within the game would.

I get the feeling that a player wouldn't be coming out for your benefit, or any fan's benefit. Probably more his own, so he doesn't have to live a lie in the public eye. Just a hunch.

A bit of a case of "making a story out of a non-story".

I think homophobia in football reached its peak about fifteen, twenty years ago and should not be an issue anymore, considering an inofficial survey showing that about 10% of all footballers are homosexual.

There have always been gay footballers, there are gay footballers and there always will be gay footballers.

I couldn't care less.

Do you not think that's majorly playing down people's fears that aren't yours to play down? It's a little bit like a happy, contented white boy saying that there is no racism any more.

The fact that there are almost zero "outted" footballers in the entire top-tier game suggests that it very much is and very much should be "an issue."

I appreciate you are not homophobic and to a large extent that's what you were trying to express - but if people like yourself and I remain apathetic and uncaring - and even dismissive - then it will be difficult for attitudes to change.

In the past few years, there have been no reports indicating homophobia was increasing. On the contrary, as the FSF piece shows, acceptance is growing.

This to me means that it can't be that bad as it once were.

I also haven't heard of homosexual footballers committing suicide or leading a miserable life due to their sexual orientation as of recent.

As long as there are individuals casting collective fears for others, hardly anything will change.

A change in personal attitude, however, does the trick.

Now, I assume footballers, once they hit a certain age, are at least mature enough to care for themselves, no matter whom or what they sh*g.

It's not like "them from the other shore" need my particular guidance, is it?

And do I now suddenly have to dedicate myself to the dyslexic, colour-blind and somnambulists as well to make amends for not "caring" enough about this "issue"? :dunno:

Btw, "coming out" is such a cliché.
