ozleicester Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Thanks to the intellectual geniuses that wander the halls of foxestalk, i have discovered a number of brilliant programmes that never made it to OZ ( eg. Alan Partridge) Im now looking for any others i may have missed..... so what are your fave 3-5 comedy shows of the past 10 years? Not really interested in the "panel shows" obviously Qi and Buzzcocks et al are funny but are quite time relevant... Im looking for shows that i can discover in DVD land.. or bit torrent world

Bellend Sebastian Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 'Human Remains' with Rob Brydon and Julia Davis, of which there is just the one series is, to my mind something of a lost classic. It's very dark at times, mind. Although it's very funny, it does cross the line at times from comedy into something rather more tragic. If you've ever seen Julia Davis' 'Nighty Night' (the first series of which is great, the second less so) it's not dissimilar in feel and is probably about as sick - it's not for the easily offended. It's very tightly written and almost every line contains humour on some level, which is often easy to miss on first watch so it's easy to go back to again and again, even though there are only six episodes. Rob Brydon is a lot more famous now than when he made it, but that's largely as a result of going a bit more mainstream. Marion and Geoff was also brilliant, but it's not going to be for everyone, and if you're a Brydon fan and can find it 'Director's Commentary' (where he pretends to be an ageing and frankly dotty old TV Director called Peter De Lane, giving director's commentaries on old ITV programmes) is well worth a look. I'm also a massive fan of 'People Like Us' which again was brilliantly written but perhaps a bit too subtle for some folk. Another reason why this has probably disappeared is that the main character is voiced (he doesn't appear on camera) by Chris Langham, who despite being a fantastic comic actor (as evidenced in 'The Thick of It') was also done for child porn offences which tends not to do wonders for one's career
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Early Doors is probably the most under rated British comedy of the past decade. Know quite a few on here (including me) are big Garth Marenghi fans as well, can still watch that and have fits of laughter, timeless programme. Definitely look into those two.

Another couple of cracking shouts, Garth is epic.
StanSP Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I know these are very recent, but I don't want to repeat with those above, as I agree with them. The Inbetweeners Plus One Pete Versus Life Will try and think of more for you soon!

Uncle Phil Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 15 storeys high & Garth Marenghis I'd say. Maybe try Time trumpet or Jam also.
Finchy Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Must haves that aren't mentioned. The Thick Of It Phoenix Nights The League Of Gentlemen (Although that started in the late 90s)
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Haha, I was going to mention Still Game, Navid and Winston are class.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 15 storeys high & Garth Marenghis I'd say. Maybe try Time trumpet or Jam also. Yes to 15 Storeys High and Jam. Be prepared for some weird shit if you go for Jam though. The Day Today and Brass Eye are cracking too.
