HankMarvin Posted 7 October 2010 Posted 7 October 2010 Exclusive - Captain’s Thailand Blog Posted on: Thu 07 Oct 2010 Leicester City captain, Matt Oakley, spoke exclusively to LCFC.COM on his experience of Thailand, working with the new gaffer and increased media interest in the club… "As you will have seen by now, the team arrived to an impressive reception. It was an unbelievable welcome, which made everyone feel very special. "The press and media coverage so far has been something else. I think it really highlights just how well the manager is regarded here in Thailand. His history in the game and all those achievements as a manager is there for all to see. Article continues Advertisement "We have experienced police escorts everywhere we've travelled and security is like something Jack Bauer would be involved in! It has been incredible. "We've stayed on UK time to fight the effects of jet lag when we return home. This has meant eating our evening meals at 12.30am Thai time, which is 6.30pm in the UK. Then we try to stay awake for a while afterwards, before going to sleep late. The staff have prepared us as well as they can and not even the most minor of details have been ignored. "I can definitely speak on behalf of the lads in saying that the training has been first-class so far. The manager has a real presence, like an aura surrounds him. When Sven says something, you listen. His assistant, Derek Fazackerley, is very hands-on in training. He is loud, authoritative and is motivating us all to work harder. I've been impressed so far with how they work and there are smiles on everyone's faces as a result. "I suppose my enduring image of this tour so far was the two hour bus journey from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Pattaya where we have been staying. We travelled through some very poor and deprived areas, almost like shanty towns. It was a really humbling experience, which reminded us all of how fortunate we are to be professional footballers. "We were also visited by the Mayor of Pattaya and a flock of locals who came along to watch training and support us. Such is the wealth of feeling and interest from the Thai people, we really do feel like we have been welcomed to a second home. "I genuinely feel that this tour has come at just the right time. I know that some people may have questioned coming to Thailand mid-season, but the change of environment and subsequent unity that we are developing, will allow us to build on the S****horpe result as we prepare to face the Thai national side and then Hull City."
dandannieldanok Posted 7 October 2010 Posted 7 October 2010 I know it's quite obvious he'll tow the line whatever the situation is, but it's nice to hear some positivity. Obviously we won't know whether this tour will have done any good until we see the championship results after their return, but as Oakley says it could have come at just the right time.
Jon the Hat Posted 7 October 2010 Posted 7 October 2010 Amazing isn't it, when you suddenly have a manager and assistant/coach who know what they are doing...
Zingari Posted 7 October 2010 Posted 7 October 2010 "We were also visited by the Mayor of Pattaya and a flock of locals who came along to watch training and support us. " i hope he hadn't heard about the mayor of Leicester and assumed it was a traditional method of greeting to drop his pants
mancunianfox Posted 7 October 2010 Posted 7 October 2010 Jack Bauer reference! His comment about the players enjoying being worked hard in training is telling, or maybe I am just reading into it a bit too much.
