Houdini Logic Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 I think you're arguing for the sake of it. After the number of chances squandered the other night either Sven has total faith in Fryatt or he'll be looking to bring a goal scorer in. Yes I'm the one trying to create an argument in this thread Anyway this isn't a Fryatt thread so there's no point discussing this further
The Doctor Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 That trio, excluding Vassell, have amassed 5 league goals this season, Andy King has that on his own. Not sure I can see the logic that says that'll see us right until January. I admire the faith, but seriously waghorn 2 (Narwich + S****horpe), Fryatt 2 (Narwich), Howard 2 (Portsmouth + Leeds) = 6. they're fine, king can chip in with a fair few, as can dyer. wellens has got a couple this season (admittedly in the cup). We can last through 'till January with the attacking threat we have, then we need to add a bit to it. Also we have no way of knowing how vassell will do, he could end up in double figures before Christmas or he could end up not scoring at all this season, patience, see how vassell gets on before rushing into signing every striker availalbe on loan
Wilkesy Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 Not fussed about him really, 1 month loans are so pointless at this stage of the season and we'd just be acting as the WBA reserve side for him to reach full fitness. Happy with Waghorn, Vassell, Fryatt and Howard certainly till January. Yer, i think those 4 will be fine until jan. Surely sven is going to opt for a 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 formation, with dyer and vassell playing wide with waggy up top. Then we have moussa, gallagher, fryatt and howard to use from the bench. 4 strikers will be fine.
Finnegan Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 This strikeforce got us to the play-offs AND we've added to it, I see no rush to sign. Improvements would be nice but it's not the end of the world and I agree with Tommeh over pointlessly short signings.

I can't see why people are so against Sven bringing in better players than the ones we have already.
Babylon Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 Indeed it also took us in to the bottom 3. I can't see why people are so against Sven bringing in better players than the ones we have already. I don't think people are against better players, more against better players that will only be here for 3/4 games. We'll be back in the same boat after they leave. Hopefully the signings are stop gaps until we can make actual purchases in January.

But if those players can help us to garner more points I still fail to see the down side. Make no mistake Sven will have been told play-offs minimum and will be given the resources to do so, this is why he started reconstructing his back division even before we kicked a ball in anger, I believe everyone is happy with that. If he feels we need more firepower then he is right and not one of our squad is sacred enough to be spared.

One would suggest that perhaps the defence that leaked goals en masse were, perhaps, more worthy of blame and more urgently in need of attention. I want to see better players and I take no issue with loans but I do not see that we're desperate enough for 3 game emergency cover. We shouldn't risk alienating our own players when we should be playing them into the form and confidence that nearly got us promoted. Miller for the season? Hel yes! Six months with view to perm? Okay! A month for his fitness? Er, no ty, get Fryatt on!

Personally I couldn't give two hoots if our current players got upset or alienated, I want us playing at the highest level with the best quality players we can muster, I think we all agree that other than Hobbs and King none of the others would be able to make the necessary step up. So if we can replace and improve now then why wait

HonradaRaposa Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 :crylaugh: I'm flattered. The point that seems to have passed everyone by is Sven has already seen to that and now is focusing on his goal shy forward stock.

OK mate - I'll base my opinions on facts/observations and you base yours on the information you seem to somehow acquire from the inner workings of Svens head.

Pray tell, what exactly do we do with our newly antagonised and disaffected forwards once Miller's month is up and we have to rely on them again? Mmmh?

Pray tell, what exactly do we do with our newly antagonised and disaffected forwards once Miller's month is up and we have to rely on them again? Mmmh? So are you suggesting we keep mediocrity just so they don't get upset? As I say I don't care if they are replaced by better quality players and if they have an ounce of professionalism then they'll deal with it. What happens if after 28 days we've picked up 9 points and Miller bagged some goals? I think many seem to have formed emotional bonds with some of this lot, who if we are honest couldn't give a toss about any of us. All I want is the best quality players we can get hold of at Leicester City. Can I ask how you feel about Robbie Neilson, Michael Lamey, Michael Morrison and now Tom Kennedy given Sven's activity?

One would suggest that after creating bucket loads of chances in the first 20 minutes against Leeds and not scoring, added to the fact that since the start of the season we've followed that particular pattern in most of the games, the fact that Sven is looking for a new striker is hardly surprising.
Babylon Posted 22 October 2010 Posted 22 October 2010 What happens if after 28 days we've picked up 9 points and Miller bagged some goals? He buggers off back to the baggies and we have to play the others again. As I said before, if it's a stop gap to getting better players in January there isn't a problem with it.

And I openly embrace that should they be long term, or even mid term, fixes.
foxoffderby Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 SKY SPORTS.com Keane targets Miller deal Town boss expects competition to sign West Brom striker Miller: Ipswich target Ipswich Town boss Roy Keane has confirmed his interest in signing West Bromwich Albion striker Ishmael Miller on loan. Miller marked his return from a thigh injury by appearing as a late substitute in the Baggies' Carling Cup victory at Leicester City on Tuesday night. The Premier League club are prepared to allow Miller to go out on loan once Peter Odemwingie is fit again and he is wanted by several Championship sides. Leicester have already admitted an interest in the forward and Keane expects stiff competition in his quest to bring Miller to Portman Road. Trouble attracting players "Ishmael Miller will have plenty of options," said Keane. "We are in the market and if you think we are the only club in for a player like him then you are mad. "He is a good player and good players are always in my thoughts. I don't think we'd be the first option for players from Premier League clubs in the Midlands or the North West. "We have trouble attracting players down here as they don't often want to move away so we may have to look at younger players."
RedHux Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 We're after him now too... Ipswich, Nottingham Forest, Leicester and Swansea are believed to have shown interest, while his former West Brom boss Tony Mowbray could join the suitors having been appointed Middlesbrough boss on Tuesday. I doubt you've got much to worry about from us though
Ric Flair Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 I'd much rather Guidetti from Man City but if he is fit and is keen then we need him in before Saturday.
Baggie93 Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 I'm an albion fan Just wanna say that im not a keen lover of miller only has a left foot loads of pace, could do with going out on loan cos he aint gonna get in the albion team now!

Donut Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 A guy who would fit into the much sought after 'big AND mobile' forward Hes got some serious pace which is something we lack...... would be a good forward to have if we needed to go 4 5 1 Only have two concerns 1) Hes all left foot, literally has no right foot 2) Hes extremely injury prone
