bettso Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 I was stood (yes stood!!) at the back of the kop last night and a couple of chants were going on that I hadn't heard before that were really quite brilliant. Chanting Gallagher to the tune of Karma Chameleon and Lloyd will tear you apart to the tune of Love will Tear us apart were fantastic. However when the chant of 'Leicester Library' went up, it felt very uncomfortable. I'm all for singing at the games and love what The Fosse Boys are trying to get going, but basically singing a chant that's having a pop at your own fans just didnt sit right. And why are people singing, 'Iwan is a welshman'?
Fosse Boy Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 Can't comment as I wasn't there but I don't think it would be FB members singing Leicester Library. At least I hope it wasn't. Iwan Is A Welshman is a classic chant. that's why people sing it.
Master Fox Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 what was the chant West Brom fans were singing about being in Leicester wanting to go home...?
Tommy G Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 Our fans sounded dreadful. WBA fans were loud and class. It was embarassing!

Iwan Is A Welshman is a classic chant. that's why people sing it. It was difficult to tell anyone apart from anyone else with regards to the chanting. Iwan is a welshman was a classic chant when he played for us but it's a bit weird singing it now. It's not like we sing, 'he's got no hair but we dont care, Kevin, Kevin Russell'
Bert Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 I wanna go home, I wanna go home, this is a shithole, I want to go home. Iwan is a welshman is simply one of the best chants ever. We're not the only club that sings about former players.
Simmo86 Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 I thought the West Brom fans were piss poor considering the numbers. Only heard a peep when they scored, then silence.......
Halfsy Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 I thought the West Brom fans were piss poor considering the numbers. Only heard a peep when they scored, then silence....... Although they did score four, meaning they were probably louder than us. We'd never take 4,000 on a Tuesday night to the Hawthorns, they had a quarter of the gate last night. X

Benji Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 Welcome to Leicester, where sitting and watching the game is a crime.

I agree that the chant is quality but can it not just be adapted for a current player?
MPH Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 Iwan Roberts was ok but he's not an iconic figure so chanting his name just seems weird. Boy, you trippin'
bettso Posted 27 October 2010 Author Posted 27 October 2010 Boy, you trippin' Reckon I must be. Ah well, if you cant beat em........ Iwan is a Welshman........................

Have a word with yourself then take yer'sen outside and thrash yourself with a copy of last nights matchday programme.
Guest Gist Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 Although they did score four, meaning they were probably louder than us. We'd never take 4,000 on a Tuesday night to the Hawthorns, they had a quarter of the gate last night. X I'm certain we would if we were in their position now. Fair play to them though, but is only an hour away and they are on fire.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 Welcome to Leicester, where sitting and watching the game is a crime. Clearly not, else >70% of our average home attendance would be in the cells.

We'd never take 4,000 on a Tuesday night to the Hawthorns, they had a quarter of the gate last night. X They're 6th in the premiership and we're 4th from the bottom of the championship, if it were the other way round and we were in the form that they're in then maybe...
bettso Posted 27 October 2010 Author Posted 27 October 2010 Have a word with yourself then take yer'sen outside and thrash yourself with a copy of last nights matchday programme. Had a couple of decent seasons but was no better for us than Paul Dickov, David Connoly, Jamie Scowcroft, Brian Deane, Ian Marshall, Steve Claridge, Tommy Wright etc etc. I'm not saying he's shit just not amazing. I didnt realise that Iwan Roberts was in the Untouchable club. Maybe someone could make a list of players that cant have a word said against them just so we're all clear.
Benji Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 Clearly not, else >70% of our average home attendance would be in the cells. Fortunately, those who see it as a crime aren't the judges.
lcfc"weasel" Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 WBA fans were quality last night. Would also like to confirm there were no Fosse Boys singing Leicester library last night.

We'd never take 4,000 on a Tuesday night to the Hawthorns, they had a quarter of the gate last night. X TBF, we might have if we were top 6 in the Premiership instead of 4th bottom of the Championship. I'm sure a lot of people can't be arsed at the moment. Didn't we take something like 8,000 to Notts County in the ZDS cup midweek once?
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 27 October 2010 Posted 27 October 2010 Fortunately, those who see it as a crime aren't the judges. One man's fortune is another man's crying shame. In all seriousness, you pay your money, you're free to do what you want, sit in silent reverence(?) or sing like a loon. I just wish there were more of the latter in attendance last night.

Easily better than Connolly, Scowcroft and Deane but I get your point. Really I think it should only be chanted at games against Derby but I'm not one to be picky with chants

Iwan was an iconic figure of our 90s front line and the memories of him and the fact that "Iwan is..." is fun (remember it?) to sing means it's lasted way beyond his tenure here.
