I turned over tonight and psychic sally was on and i usualy turn over but tonight i started to watch and some of the things she was guessing about peoples dead relatives were fairly amazing . Im not a believer in mediums so ive been on the net tonight trying to work out how she does it , but ive been surprised how many people think that some mediums have some kind of strange powers .

once attended a (free) mediumship demonstration with a friend of mine who ended up being picked out from the audience. He was given a lot of information on his family background which included a number of sailors. It was quite specific and in my opionion not the sort of thing that would apply to many people. The medium said he was in communication with my friend's grandfather and mentioned the details of a nautical accident he'd been involved in.

Though my friend had told the medium he didn't know about any sailors in his background he told me afterwards he knew about them all along, but wanted to see if the medium would stick to his guns if he denied it (he did.) He didn't know anything about the accident at sea though. However his father used to reguarly come up to London to research their family tree at Somerset House, and a few months later came across a story about the shipping accident that fitted completely with the medium's description.

I found this interesting, because as no one living was aware of the accident at the time the medium relayed it, it meant it could not have been gained through purely psychic means and therefore had to either have been the result of genuine mediumship or a lucky guess. My personal feeling is that the latter is an even more outlandish explanation than the former, especially given the numerous other 'lucky guesses' he seemed to make that night.

my fave fact on that forum is - Houdini gave his wife a code before his death so that mediums could prove it if they contacted him. None could get that code.

I'm not a fan of all this psychic hokum, a lot of it is down to a method called Cold Reading and relies on audience members doing the majority of the work. You should watch Derren Brown Investigates.
