So who messed up the silence?

Recommended Posts

People can hark on about "missing instructions" and "the players breaking off" all they like but when every other ground in the country was capable of observing the silence perfectly.

Were you personally at every ground in the country to know what happened at them?

I can assure there is a set one (it involves being silent, theres a clue in the tern 'a minutes silence'). It's last post then silence. The only variation is after the silence where the Rouse can be played.

Unless you have lived outside of the United Kingdom for the majority of your life I fail to see how you wouldn't have been involved in one. At EVERY school you observe a minutes silence, it's on EVERY UK news programme, it's on EVERY radio station, EVERY terrestrial TV station, it's been at the Walkers for EVERY home game prior to Remembrance Sunday for the past 8 seasons. You'd have to try incredibly hard to not know, or you'd have to be so self absorbed as to not pay attention to what you have been doing for nearly every year since you were born.

Do they play the last post at Schools? They didn't at mine, it was just silence.

Do they play the last post on the radio? The last time I listened to the radio (some time ago now) it was just silence.

Do they play the last post on every tv channel? No they don't.

So quite clearly there is not a set chain of events that all events follow. If every silence for it had the last post before than I could accept your point, but it doesn't. In fact from memory I've personally only ever been involved in handful that had the last post played before the silence.

Like it or not, many people have only ever observed the silence without a last post. So it's not beyond the realms of possibility that they thought everyone being silent during the last post was the silence, because everyone observed that perfectly. If they meant disrespect then they would have been chanting during that too.

It was an idiotic mistake by a small group of people, end of story.

At every home game closest to Remberance Sunday for the past 8 seasons the last post has been played followed by silence.

all this abuse saying our fans have no respect is a disgrace, even after the post horn some of the players broke away so clearly the instructions wernt very clear, and from the KOP i could hardly hear them...... but what i will say is the chants sounded like they were from those scummy derbt C***s

maybe for once the club takes responsability and not push the blame once again on the fans..........

I cannot believe some fans abuse of fellow fans on here its as disgraceful as those not respecting the silence........

From my point of view, after the last post some of the players looked ready to go and this led to some of the fans thinking its 'game time' and chanting like it was the end of the silence.

I Heard what Birchey said in SK1, but I think they could of made it clear to the players.

You always get some idiots, but I watched the build up to the Everton v Arsenal game, and you could of heard a pin drop in that silence. So it can be done.

Word! I aint read any of the thread... however

Ok so I was in L1 yesterday & it unfortunately was defoinately L1 who messed up the silence! It was 3 lads behind me <_< I dont believe they understood that there was to be silence after the last post. They did shut up after a few seconds, I dont think they did it with any intent, but it was really bad in any case.

The Derby fans did react & to be fair it was justified.... but after the silence there were still some shouting from DCFC fans saying "respect" like 5 or so seconds after L1 had shut up. Then L! started calling DCFC fans scum because they booed.

Basicly it was handbags, but still terrible as both sets of fans wanted 2 show the respect that the day deserved. I think deep down both sets of fans know this.

I don't really understand why people didn't understand, the instructions were perfectly clear! I can see why some people got a little confused in that they thought that the Last Post counted as the silence. However, how can you class that part as silence as it is a noise in itself. I don't really care who started the chanting mid-silence. Whoever you were, your actions were disgusting and you should be bloody ashamed of yourselves. As for the 'Engerland' chant, what a joke. It is isn't just the English that we were remembering.

Not to those in a loud area of the ground they weren't. The ones who should be ashamed were those Derby fans who knew it was supposed to be silent, but thought it was more important to shout abuse at those who had made a mistake.

I think that it was mainly the Derby Fans, but some Leicester fans got involved too. Even if people didn't understand, it became perfectly clear that it was meant to be silence after the inital 10/15 second confussion.

So you heard the instructions yet those who didn't should be ashamed of themselves? For what exactly?

Where do you sit?

Everyone makes mistakes you know, don't think just because it's rememberance week you can tell people that they should be ashamed of themselves because of mistakes. They aint gonna do it on purpose are they.

I'm sorry but it was plainly obvious from the way the players were still in the centre, how half the ground were utterly silent and from the shushing going on that they were in the wrong... and yet they continued to make noise for what seemed an eternity!

And then to make it worse, before the final whistle had been blown, they started up again... pathetic.

No come on, tell me where you sit so we can get another point of view on this.

They started up just after the Last Post was finished, obviously thinking that that was it. They stopped after about 5 seconds when they realised (because of the shushing and the rest of the crowd being silent). And can I add, that after the last post some of the players started to move away.

It was the Derby fans who carried on abusing us after that, rather than just letting it go and honouring the silence.

How many times? :frusty:

It wasn't just the Derby fans, we made noise aswell and if you can't see that take your blue tinted specs off.

I sit in K1 and I could tell that our and their fans started singing after the last post and then both ends resorted to a slanging match instead of being quiet.

I was in SK4 in about the middle... so basically I was sitting in the same spot as those making all the noise, just on the other side of the ground... I heard everything perfectly.

It wasn't 5 seconds either... it went on for ages and that's what made it so bad... both Leicester AND Derby fans. Then the shouting starting again before the whistle at the end was even worse... you can't defend that.

And only a couple of players went, but very quickly came back... one of which was Yuki so I can't blame him for being confused!

1) City fans started singing

2) City fans were told to shut up, and stopped

3) Derby fans shouted abuse continuously

4) After about 15 seconds of unecessary abuse the City fans reacted and told them to shut up

5) Silence was about 15 seconds

That's how I saw it.

Did they fook! I heard a "show some respect" which is fair enough. But then our fans carried on with sheep noises (no doubt you'll try to blame that on the Derby fans) and calling the other fans "fooking wankers" etc. So basically, both fans need to grow the fook up and leave out the rivalry for 2 minutes.

Sorry that is not the way I saw it. They were shouting 'show some fooking respect' for fooking ages, not once. The Leicester fans had gone silent by then but they just wanted a slanging match. They wanted to shout abuse more than honour the silence.

Well all I'm saying is that from the other side of the ground, it looked very much like a lot of the City fans next to the Derby ones were making just as much noise, for just a long a period, as the Derby fans.

And it's all well and good saying that they were only shouting "show some fooking respect", but that's just as bad. Just keep silent and let the others make tits of themselves.

Let's not forget also that several Derby & Leicester players also thought it had finished after the Last Post and broke ranks, now if they got it wrong you can hardly blame a few fans, some of whom had probably just arrived for failing to understand the procedure.

the thing with that is yes I understand there was a misunderstanding but when everyone else goes silent that should be a decent enough indication and whoever started halfway through should hang their heads in shame. plus before the last post birch did explain that the last post would be played THEN there would be a silence that began ON the refs whistle so I will forgive em to start with then it was just disrespectful to be fair and all I heard from Leicester fans were waves of shhhhh......

Yeh I know that's what I'm saying. It was the Derby fans who started shouting that and they wouldn't let it go. I think there would have been no problem if they'd just accepted the initial mistake.

I was in K block

Oh give it a rest... was a fuck only the Derby fans... even from the other side of the stadium could I and others see that it was both them AND our fans giving it some.

My two pennies worth from L1.

I arrived at the stadiuam around 2.50pm and did not hear any PA announcement about the horn blowing and then the minutes silence - however I was stood around in the concourse. I was quite confused myself as to what the preceeding where however remained silent with many others throughout.

Once the horn blowing had finished some of the players disbursed and a few supporters in L1 started chanting Leicester, Leicester, Leicester to which the Derby fans replied Derby, Derby, Derby. Then realising that mistakes had been made both sets of fans quietened.

A supporter in N Block then shouted "fooking sheep shaggers" which riled the Derby fans and then members of L1 started getting involved due the Derby fans reaction to this idiot in N Block.

Quite embarrasing in all and does nothing to improve L1's reputation.
