Bristol City Vs Leicester City (A)

Howard's penalties were substandard against Sheff Utd and Derby County. I hate penalties shot along the ground which always give the goalkeeper a chance. Penalties should be a 3/4 feet in the air.

I wish King would take the penalties.

You couldn't be more wrong

Have you ever been taught how to take a penalty?

You are taught to hit them as low as possible, or in the top corner. 3/4 feet in the air gives the goalkeeper the best chance of saving it.

Had they been 3/4 feet in the air against Sheff utd and Derby the goalkeeper would have saved them

Sorry but that's laughable

Your forming opinions on what Stringer says

Watch the game, then have your own opinions

I will not comment on how the players have played today because I haven't seen them

But I have seen what Howard has done this season and he has been an important player for us

He is right though Howard barely hits the target, but I do feel he is very effective for us but whether we should be starting him I'm not sure, he would be good to bring on later in a game.

Well we've been a lot better since Sven has been here.

It's hardly his fault we are in the bottom half, there are plenty of other people to blame

huh, you miss my point - read the post i was replying to - the suggestion was: had i been to more games i'd have seen us being brilliant all season, which is clearly rubbish.

i've no doubt he contributes, i haven't said he hasn't - the point is he's a goal scorer and if he could hit the target he'd be our top scorer, sadly take away his penos and he's scored two league goals.

a tackle here and there simply isn't the return we need from a center forward.

you don't need to go to a game to know that he makes a contribution, or equally that he is a poor finisher.

'i've seen us play several games this year on tv and have yet to see howard contribute anything significant.'

I would prefer to rely upon Alan young's opinion that penalties shouldn't be missed.

Penalties along the ground are the easiest to save.

Why does nobody go for the top corner with their pens? Really annoys me because they are unstoppable completely takes the keeper out of it so unless you sky it like a twat you are guarenteed to score.

Exactly, he could score 10 in a row, then he would miss one, and someone would say 'well it was only a matter of time until he missed, his penaltes are all crap, the goalkeeper got quite close to all of them, he's shit, he shouldn't take penalties'.

I've just tried to look up his record on penalties - without success - because that would have given a pointer. My own reaction was based on the guy's technique which looks far too hit or miss to me.

Le Tissier missed a penalty but seeing as it was once in a long career I don't think anyone would have made a case against him.

But I cannot imagine Howard having that that sort of record because Le Tissier's technique was so clinical. Goalkeeper's rarely got close from the one's I saw.

King has good technique but I also believe he would do the groundwork if penalty taking was his job. He would practise to be precise. Gallagher has good shooting technique too. Perhaps a way to find out is for City staff to make the contenders hit penalties every day for a week or so - with the guy with the best return getting the job. Details matter.Cos at the moment we#re sitting on one measly point against a poor side instead of three. Hopefully there will be more focus in the next 45 minutes.

What? lol

Normally I find your posts well thought out even if I disagree but I can't fathom the logic behind your statement here.

No, penalties down the middle and 3/4 feet off the ground are the easiest to save. It's harder for the goalkeeper to dive down as low as the ground, or high enough to get the top corner

If anyone is at the ground replying on a phone, how are we playing?

I'd like to know too, because I'm listening to Stringer and Young and am obviously not getting all the information to form an opinion on how we are playing.

Even Graham Alexander has missed a penalty this season, so even the best do miss the odd occasion. Its not like Howard has missed penalties over and over again, he must have taken about 8 for us and missed two in today and at home against Swansea last season. I have more confidence in Howard than I ever did Fryatt taking them.

I'm not saying we dont have a better penalty taker than Howard.

I think that what you suggest would be a good idea, and I agree both King and Gallagher have good technique and are potential penalty takers.

But I have seen Howard take a number of penalties in his time here - he has missed two - but he also scored a very high pressure kick at Cardiff - which was right in the top corner.

I just don't like people saying 'I told you he'd miss' and getting on his back when he's taken quite a few good penalties.

Posted

How would you know that if you've not seen the games?

I know he's limited but you're on his back as soon as he misses one peno. I admit he's not a great goalscorer but he's been massive for us recently so saying 'I told you so' and that he's not done anything is wrong

christ, you are a one aren't you....

ok, i can comprehend people talking shit because it contradicts with everything other people say, or is clearly irrational - i can read, and have the capacity to appraise opinion and shit posts stand out like a sore thumb sometimes.

i'm not on howards back cause he missed one peno, i've been on his back for three seasons because i know we need someone way more reliable and productive than howard, there are players who can do what howard does and much more.

also, when have i said 'i told you so', i don't get that at all...

and he hasn't scored - he is a striker - we are dominant - he missed a penalty, does that qualify as 'not having done anything wrong'?

Will we ever score from a bloody corner!

'i've seen us play several games this year on tv and have yet to see howard contribute anything significant.'

yeah, there is a diffference between 'contributing' and 'contributing anything significant'

Most goalkeepers dive along the ground. Get the ball a few feet in the air and it's out of the goalkeeper's reach. What's the problem? Howard should have altered his style since James will have seen his last two recent penalties.

We need to beat this lot. If this is the worse they've played in 5 years anything other than a win isn't good enough.

If we havnt scored by 65 i'd probably have Vassell and Howard both off for Waggy and Fryatt. Give them both a chance to impress and give Bristol something else to think about.

Posted

Unreachable. That's utter rubbish. Keepers do not dive alon the ground. They keep relatively low, yes, but not along the ground. If you have ever played you would know that you go hard and low into a corner or high. Going high poses more of a risk and requires more skill.

I said 'saying he's not done anything is wrong'.

So you've been on Howard's back for 3 seasons? Why? He always plays with passion and can be a handful for defenders. Whatever you say, that is an asset. He wins headers, can hold it up and pass it.

He's not a great goalscorer, but i don't think he deserves a slating, because I don't think we would have won against Derby or got the point against Sheff Utd if it wasn't for him
