CKB Posted 21 November 2010 Posted 21 November 2010 Oakley would probably be the only replacement? which doesn't fill me with joy at all unless we changed it around for the trees game? which i'd rather do
Jimmy Posted 21 November 2010 Posted 21 November 2010 Why Oakley? Moussa is an attacking Midfielder not a winger, different to King in that he'd look to run with the ball more but he'd get forward as much
dhermon Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 Meanwhile, Eriksson said the hamstring injury which forced top- scorer Andy King to be substituted at Bristol City on Saturday may not be as serious as first thought. "I don't think it is too serious because if it is very bad then you can hardly walk off the pitch, and he was jogging, so I don't think it is too bad," he said. "We had to react quickly because, if we had left him on, it could have been worse, and he could be out for five or six weeks and we don't want to be without him for that long."
marbelladave Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 Better off playing 4-4-2 than Oakley being one of the 5. Also you're forgetting that we have decent strikers on the bench who play better with a partner I think you'll find we get over run when we let teams attack us because we can't keep the ball Oakley has played a fair number of decent games this season, sure he has had the occasional 'mare but who hasn't?... Whilst your point about Fryatt and Waghorn (I assume) is quite true (and not forgotten) playing two men up does leave us light in midfield, particularly if the wide men stay wide. Playing Oakley narrow right and Dyer on the left does provide a solution of sorts, though it is far from ideal. Being undermanned in midfield allows the opposition to put us under pressure and it is this, along with the tempting target of two men up top that often leads us to 'going long', a tactic that mostly results in loss of possession. We have been keeping the ball better of late, the possession stats from saturdays loss show that clearly, so I would try and keep things as they are, shape wise at least and hope that we can start hitting the back of the net, we might even have a new striker by then... If King is not fit than I would instruct Oakley to play a holding role in front of the back 4 and let Wellens and Abe get up and down, again not ideal but unless we are going to make big changes to our whole setup, that is the best option in my view.
wattolcfc Posted 22 November 2010 Posted 22 November 2010 Just googled thigh strain injurys. Lampard was out for 3-4 weeks a couple of years ago with one and there are 3 severities off a thigh strain and how long players would be out: 1st Degree strain: 3-4 weeks complete rest 2nd Degree strain: 5-7 weeks complete rest. 3rd Degree strain: 8 weeks or more with complete rest I hope its only a 1st Degree strain.. our season depends on it!
