The Ivory Coast praised him for getting them playing football again and uniting the squad as they were previously under extreme disharmony under the previous regime and before Mexico even kicked a ball under his tenure, the players had decided not to play for him as they all believed that if the manager was not Mexican then they did not want to play for him. Many of the fans felt the same way and that is why he eventually left the job.
