MarshallForEngland Posted 27 November 2010 Share Posted 27 November 2010 Few points: 1. 'Small town' chants: 'Small town in Wales' alludes to the geographical proximity of Bristol to the Anglo-Welsh border. 'Small town in Asia' alludes to the high proportion of Asian citizens living in Leicester. 2. 'There's only one Chicken Tikka' - This is false. There are many variations of Chicken Tikka and the strength and taste are largely effected by geographically specific traditions as well as availability of ingredients. 3. 'He'll [Yuki Abe] eat your fooking dog' (chanted by Leicester fans) - This is highly improbable. There is no tradition of eating dogs in Japan. Those singing this chant may be confusing Japan with other Far-Eastern countries such as Korea and China.
DeclanMC Posted 27 November 2010 Share Posted 27 November 2010 Classic FT, serious discussion about racism gets turned into in-depth debate on man boobs My 2p, people who decide to chant this sort of shite are idiots, and so are some people claiming these songs are even 'amusing'?! It amazes me sometimes how distorted people's views of the world must be to have this sort of thing up for discussion, sort of reminds me of school bullies who never really grew up. To me, this sort of chanting limits this club from growing in this city and increasing attendences, as Raj said, any young asian lad coming down to a match and hearing these chants is hardly going to want to go again is he. NickJ Posted 27 November 2010 Author Share Posted 27 November 2010 OK lads I can see you are no longer taking this seriously! From what I can see, the majority (by about 2 or 3 to 1) of non-Asians considered the singing distasteful or similar, although most stopped short of describing it as racist. Of more interest to me were the replies from the Asian lads. Mee, Mee-9, LCFCAdam, Mosseds, Shiv and LiamLCFC1, being lads who declared an Asian background, are not that bothered by it. The only dissenting Asian was Raj, who was not personally offended, but still thought it wrong because others might be. I hope I have summed that up reasonably accurately, and if I have, it sort of confirms my view, that racism is wrong and is ugly, and it is right that it is acted on where it happens. But really, some white people need to get a sense of perspective in this issue, and ask themselves the question, is this more about speaking out just to make them feel a little bit better about themselves. Just my view. Have a good season. EDIT: sorry, that last sentence not an attempt to lecture, really aimed more at our forum.

I wouldn't say I'm not that bothered, it's more the fact that I've learnt to deal with it. And I've heard much worse things being shouted/chanted. Houdini Logic Posted 27 November 2010 Share Posted 27 November 2010 I really don't want to get into this argument, but seriously. WTF? You think it's ok to use casual racism at football? Have you seen how many British Asians are professional footballers? Have you ever wondered why it's so low when shit like this is deemed "acceptable"? Similarly, the casual homophobia deemed "acceptable" in football. Statistically there should be gay footballers, but in reality there are no gay footballers. Is it any wonder when there are ignorant, narrow minded tits still berating and trying to insult opposition fans instead of getting behind and supporting their own team? You might not think that singing "get your tits out..." means anything, but it's not your tits at the end of the day. I'll come back to your points, but I'm just curious as to whether you condone songs about shagging sheep to the Welsh?

'town full of pakis' is racist IMO, I for one can't fooking stand the chant, i take my young son to games and for one cannot understand why my son has to listen to such racist drivel as I had when I was a youth. Has society or football moved on from racism, well it definitely makes you think!! The rest such as 'smell of curry' are distateful and are borderline with racist undertones, either way, there's no need for it really!! There's banter and then there's insults and further racist insults. There's a fine line which can easily be breached. As to those 'asians' (i hate this word) who are used to it or just get on with it, shows imo cowardness, nothing like that should be tolerated!!!
