Fosse Boy Posted 21 December 2010 Posted 21 December 2010 On the topic, http://www.theposh.com/page/MoysEnd/0,,10427~2239486,00.html P'boro better get their hat together, so we can give this terrace a good send-off. Sad, sad news. My gammy ankle from last season will be delighted though.
davieG Posted 22 December 2010 Posted 22 December 2010 Hope you don't mind Bilo but I've nicked your email to Stephen Dorrell my Tory MP and I've linked his Motion to my Facebook page. http://bathlibdems.o...nding_bill.html Not a squeak not even an acknowledgement, you'd think with all the money they claim for secretarial support etc that they could managed something!
Guest Bilo Posted 22 December 2010 Posted 22 December 2010 Not a squeak not even an acknowledgement, you'd think with all the money they claim for secretarial support etc that they could managed something! Disappointing, my housemate received a letter from Andrew Robathan though saying he broadly supported the EDM, so there is some support when you present the arguments. Not replying to an e-mail is a very poor show considering the team of staff they have though I must agree.

Sad but always going to happen. Posh are an ambitious club with Championship aspirations as a minimum, and unfortunately under the current legislation that means getting rid of their terraces. Be nice to give the old Moys End a visit on an international break though before it's pulled down.
Simmo86 Posted 22 December 2010 Posted 22 December 2010 Anybody know what number EDM this is, my MP is saying he can't find it on the list.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 23 December 2010 Posted 23 December 2010 Anybody know what number EDM this is, my MP is saying he can't find it on the list. It wasn't an EDM, it was a ten minute rule motion, spoken after Health Questions and Kenneth Clarke's statement on sentencing policy on Tuesday 7th December.
Ryanside Posted 27 December 2010 Posted 27 December 2010 Just found a letter from my Mp, Nicky Morgen, in response to my email. Basically using Hillsborough as an arguement, and telling me to pipe down. Can't say I expected anything more tbf

Really is shocking that the authorities still hide behind Hillsorough as an excuse.

Basically using Hillsborough as an arguement, and telling me to pipe down. Can't say I expected anything more tbf Talking about Hillsborough is the usual response of an un-informed person voicing their opinion on the subject. They really need to look at the facts as to why/how Hillsborough happened and how the new modern day safe standing areas actually work.
The Doctor Posted 4 January 2011 Posted 4 January 2011 just got an email from garnier with this letter attached: Thank you for your email of 15 December requesting advice on the Government’s position on the Safe Standing Bill, following representation from one of your constituents. The current Government position is that it supports the recommendations made in the Taylor Report after the Hillsborough disaster, including that stadia in the top two divisions (clubs in the Premiership and Championship) should be all-seater. I understand those that have to manage or license/certify stadia generally hold the view that the introduction of all-seated stadia has helped to improve crowd management and crowd behaviour, and that it also gives supporters better facilities to enjoy football matches. All seated stadiums have led to vastly improved figures on safety – no serious injuries, or crowd disorder, minimal arrests and ejections. In fact all grounds in the Premier League are now all-seater (under the conditions laid down in the FLA’s licence) and of the clubs in Leagues 1 and 2 (3rd and 4th tiers of English football) only 17 out of 48 clubs do not have all-seater stadiums. This indicates that clubs are content to provide all-seater accommodation even when not legally required, as it not only provides a safe, comfortable environment but enables the clubs to control the crowd and deal with issues of public disorder, including coin throwing and abusive behaviour, swiftly and effectively. The Football Licensing Authority (FLA) considered the ‘Kombi’ system (used in Germany) on the Government’s behalf in 2001. They concluded that whilst well engineered, the current design of English grounds would not allow for the installation of this system and would require substantial investment by clubs, in some cases completely rebuilding stands. The campaign for standing is not universally popular among football supporters (especially among families, the older generation and the disabled) whom have all returned in greater number to watch matches since seating was introduced. Statistics would also suggest that there are far less injuries or arrests incurred with seating as there used to be with standing at matches. Thank you, again, for writing, with all my best wishes.

Got a letter from the House of commons today, Covering letter from Keith Simpson my Mp with then the reply he got from Hugh Robertson. The same as the above letter. To be fair my MP has been very helpful, just doesn't seem that they are willing to budge.
Simmo86 Posted 14 January 2011 Posted 14 January 2011 Can't seem to get there heads around the fact that people don't want the whole ground standing just certain areas!
Jackirius Posted 14 January 2011 Posted 14 January 2011 Can't seem to get there heads around the fact that people don't want the whole ground standing just certain areas! I doubt he even read the letter.
Joe. Posted 16 January 2011 Posted 16 January 2011 If anybody's interested the Second Reading of the Safe Standing (Football Stadia) Bill will be made on 17th June in the House of Commons. It's going to be a long process before anything could get done, but fingers crossed. You can track the progress of the Bill here.
accessory Posted 17 January 2011 Posted 17 January 2011 Can't see the government making it a priority. Each passing season sees the emergence of fans who have no experience of terracing.
Maybes Posted 10 February 2011 Posted 10 February 2011 Good video. Stood on the terraces at Monchengladbach and Bochum at the weekend. Very enjoyable and safe.
Tommeh Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 Seen 1st hand on our trip that Germany is perfectly safe and fr me it's a complete no-brainer. Something really should give soon otherwise fans will just continue in the seats unfortunatly for my shins. Stewards and clubs have pretty much given up the game now anyway, they know full well fans won't sit down.
Simmo86 Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 Received the same exact same letter as above. Can fault my MP he has been top notch. Even my old man has noticed how many people stand at football these days and he hates football. Just common sense now surely, otherwise like Tommeh my shins will continue to take a battering!

Houdini Logic Posted 11 February 2011 Posted 11 February 2011 Don't get me wrong - I love the idea of standing as the norm, but it would take away that special little bit of amateur rebellion when everyone stands at an away game and sings their hearts out
Simmo86 Posted 23 March 2011 Posted 23 March 2011 Guardian Article Much of the same really, but at least there round a table talking! There's a petition link in the article that needs signing
