Yak becomes a Fox

From the Everton OS

Yakubu has set his sights on firing loan club Leicester into the Premier League.

The Nigerian striker joined the Foxes on loan on Thursday in a deal which could be made permanent in the summer.

He insists he is unfazed by dropping down a level to the Championship, recalling the successful season he had with Portsmouth when he first began playing in England.

"Leicester City has a good history and the club belongs in the Premier League," declared Yakubu.

"I believe that we can achieve that aim this season, but it is not going to be easy. We will need to work hard together as a team and only then can we achieve our dreams.

"I am an ambitious person and I am more than happy to work hard. For me, I love challenges and this is one that I am really looking forward to. I wouldn't have joined if I didn't believe in my ability to do well for the club. I hope to score goals for Leicester and to help move the team up the division. I will give everything for the club and for my fellow players and I am sure we will enjoy some success."

Yakubu joined Portsmouth from Maccabi Haifa in 2003 and helped fire them to the First Division title (as it was then known).

And he explained: "I've played at most of the grounds and I know what to expect from this division.

"There are good teams and good players, but you have to compete and battle, otherwise you can be overpowered, as this is a physical level of football. I was part of the Portsmouth team that won the division when Leicester were the runners-up and it was difficult then, no doubt. But we will be prepared and we will progress.

"I've watched the team from afar over the last few months and they have done really well since the manager joined the club, after a difficult start to the season. I met the guys yesterday and they've received me really well and made me feel very welcome. I'm sure we will work well and we will fight together, believe, and reach the play-offs."

Hey guys, Everton fan here.

You're getting a great signing here for a year or 2 as he'll absolutely destroy the championship, he does have a tendancy to get bored a clubs after a few years though. Not been at his best since his injury but I'm sure regular games will get him scoring again.

He leaves with our best wishes and hopefully he impresses so we can get some money in the Summer.

Best of luck and hopefully you'll be in the Premiership again next year.

Let The Bumming Commence.

I will wait and see how he actually plays before i go singing his name. He has not been on top form for a year or so now.

That said, bringing in a player like him shows our ambition, i just hope that he lives up to the high standards that is expected of him, and the standards he set in that interview on the os.

Up The Foxes!

Seems like he is up for the challenge

I think this is going to turn out to be a pretty good signing, his sheer brute strength is likely to come in handy in such a physical league. If he gets the service, he's going to put a few goals away in this division. The Yak against Wayne Brown on Saturday could be very interesting to start with.

Has the potential to be a real Battle Royale! Wouldn't put it past Brown to put in a casual little step on the heel though at some point.

Wonder what the odds on a fight in the first ten minutes between these two are. Yak to be sent off and suspended on his debut?
