ScouseFox Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Weale 6 Naughton 7 - offers alot going forward Bamba 9 - scored twice and bossed it Mee 5 - shaky whilst defending, had a tough time though, up against Morison. Berner 5 - went forward alot, didn't get back though, sadly lacking in pace Abe 8 - learnt to shoot, hustling throughout Wellens 8.5 - superb, again King 7 Vassell 7 Yakubu 8 - lovely goal, so much strength. class above Dyer 8 - pace, scared them alot
Thracian Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Weale 6.5 (Just looked like he belonged again. No chance with the goals and little of note otherwise). Mee - 5 (Won't want too many games like this. Might easily have cost us three goals with his carelessness despite a decent level of involvement). Bamba 9 (Hard to knock a centre-back who scores two goals and made a considerable contribution in both defence and attack. If we're going to keep water ing the pitch though I wish our players would use better studs to stop em slipping). Berner 6 (Millwall constantly threatened down our right where Berner never looked comfortable. He stays thoughtful and copes most of the time but he needs to be tighter and sharper which won't be easy for him.) Naughton 7.75 (Definitely an extra attacker in the first half although a bit cautious in possession). King 8 (Perfect pass for Dyer's opener, posed a goal threat in winning two decent chances and his passing was mostly spot on. I thought we were a bit statc at times but King did try to make some selfless runs across their defence which made space for Abe, Dyer and Wellens to exploit). Wellens 9.5 (Two assists and man of the match for me. Thoroughly enjoyed his ball-playing antics when lying on the ground. It was as impressive as the rest of his game). Abe 8 (Top drawer. His confidence is growing and he looks a popular member of the side. Won so many secondary balls and rarely wasted possession. Still occasionally at fault with his marking but he continued to show a willingness to shoot and that's a big plus because he will add to our goal threat, I'm sure) . Dyer 9 (Excellent goal from an outstanding move and a nightmare Millwall could never contain. Why he was ever left out I don't know. Looked like he was thoroughly enjoying himself and might easily have had a hat-trick with a couple of shots he tried to guide into the net) Yak 7.5 (Cleverly taken goal - his second in two games - which is what he's paid for. Players just bounce off him and the danger he posed meant he had to be marked, leaving space for others). Vassell 6 (Don't think he was quite fit or ready and 'm a bit surprised he was used, hence my pre-match concern that we'dbe able to win. In the event he made a contribution and I just hope there's no further damage done. Looked to have earned us a cast-iron penalty but it was a long way off to be certain.). Waghorn and Howard (N/A) Sven: I just hope he can stay as positive for our away games and I don't see why not. Draws won't help us much. We need to shape our own destiny by trying to win and four goals only emphasises what we're capable of. Referee and linesmen: I just wonder sometimes. One of the linesmen signalled a throw to us, looked at the referee and changed his mind. What the hell was he for? The referee then totally ignored a linesman's flag - was he waving it cos there was a train coming or what? And then there were the penalty controversies which looked highly debatable to me. The second one to Millwall didn't look a foul and the one we didn't get looked like highly dramatic acting if if wasn't a penalty.
Jakemoore Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Weale - 6 he didn't have much to do Naughton - 7 some good runs and always sercure at the back Bamba - 8 right place right time for both goals and decent in defence Mee - 6 at fault for their first pen, very unlucky with the second Abe - 7 at fault for their equaliser, he should have closes down their player quicker. But very good passing throughout and a decent looking shot before it was deflected Wellens - 8 quality as always, good ball for Bamba's second and was the puppeteer to our show today King - 7 should have scored but was decent enough Dyer- 7 good finish for his goal and was there for a few chances, was an out ball throughout but should have had at least a brace Vassell - 7 unlucky not to win a penalty, worked very well with YAK to be another out ball, a Rooney type defensive job in the first half which I really rated Yakubu - 8 very good game, was too strong for their left back on one our counter attacks, good finish and was a constant threat
ScouseFox Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 In all fairness, the linesman is there to advise the referee, so if the referee sees it and disagrees with the linesman, the referee's decision goes. In this case though, the ref was blind side of the handball, the lino saw it, flagged, and awas ignored.
okie fox Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Weale -7- No chance with goals, confident performance Naughton -8- Great attacking full back, did well on defence Bamba -9- 2 goals and very solid defensively Mee -5- Very shaky but for 1 great tackle. Thought their second penalty was a dive. Not strong enough, bring back Hobbs. Berner -6- Out paced by their #12 so our left side of defence was vulnerable Abe -7- Overhit forward passes, not his best game King -7- OK, but not outstanding Wellens -9- Sprayed some great passes around, ran the show Vassell -6- Didn't do a whole lot out on the wing Yakuba -8- Can tell he's premier class. Great goal Dyer -9- Based on first half where he burned Millwall with his pace and movement. Understandably faded near the end SUBS: All 6 because they weren't on for long, but they all did their jobs in seeing out the game.
Fox1651 Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Weale - 6 naughton - 7 Bamba - 8 Mee - 6 Berner - 6 Abe - 7 Wellens - 8 King - 7 Vassell - 7 Dyer - 7 Yakubu - 8 In Sven :sge: we trust
LCFClukeLCFC Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 weale-6 naughton-7 mee-5 bamba-9 berner-7 abe-7 wellens-8 king-8 dyer-9 vassel-8 yakubu-9 hero- bamba 2goals and solid at the back villain-ref absolute twat 2blatant pens in 1 move and gave them 2 dubious ones
samjohnson Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Weale - 7 - Long shots have him worried, especially that pesky top right corner Naughton - 7 - Had his moments Bamba - 9 - Fantastic at either end! Mee - 6 - Decent debut, shaky, but definatley has potential Berner - 7 - Usual self King - 7 - Bit quiet recently Wellens - 8 - Usual self Abe - 9 - Outstanding performances recently. Has he been drug tested? Dyer - 9 - Like Abe, Outstanding. Vassell - 6 - Didnt really do much on the wing. Enough pace to worry defence Yakubu - 8 - Great goal and badgered the defence. Think he needs to pass a bit more. Sven - 10 - Great tactics used and fantastic bloke Ref - 6 - Yes, he made an absolute clanger for that penalty, but he did have a good game prior to that. Millwall team - 5.5 - Mediocre. Barely troubled us.
wurmer Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 But Mee got consistently skinned on the wing This
Cropwellfox Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Weale 7 - We do seem to get more than our share of 20yrd+ goals past us when he's in goal, but today's was top bag and not sure anyone would have got to it. Did what he had to do, I thought his distribution to the Yak was consistently good throughout and he dealt with a backpass from Sol which could have counted as a shot on target for Millwall Naughton 8 - Always a threat going forward and did his defensive job very well Bamba 9 - People, we have a centre half who scores goals. Couple of sublime pieces of defending as well, the guy has set himself a very high standard and let's hope he has consistency in his game as well Mee 6 - gets a couple of points for that tackle. What a beauty, made their forward cry and was beautifully fair. That aside, he looked pretty good in possession, good ideas with a few balls forward, but wasn't at the races from a defensive point of view. Kept his head up though where some others would have bottled it, or lunged in and seen a red. Berner 5 - Glad he's signed a new deal, but not sure he's capable of 2 games a week - off the pace, and was taken to bits by their #12 a few times, which Mee also didn't help out with. His day summed up late in the first half where he made a lung busting run, wasn't picked out, stayed advanced for more than a minute and when he finally got the ball delivered a woeful cross Abe 9 - I love this guy. So calm and assured on the ball, very rarely fails to complete a pass, seems to be establishing himself, and even a cheeky wave for the Kop towards the end. King 8 - the closer attention teams are giving him leaves Abe in space - part of a very very solid midfield display Wellens 9 - Another great performance by Richie. 3 year deal please Thai owners, as soon as possible Vassell 7 - not convinced by him out right, may not be totally fit, but put in a good shift today, and involved in some lovely incisive football Yakubu 8 - The guy is premier class all ends up. Loved the run in the second half where the millwall player tried to foul him, and he just swatted him aside. Beautiful. Deserved another goal just for that run Dyer 9 - Close to a first half hattrick. Their defenders just didn't know what to do with him when he started drifting into the middle. Took the goal well, and so unlucky with a couple of others that were saved / wide. If Sven and Faz can keep his form maintained, the fact he signed a new contract could be about the cleverest piece of business done this season so far. Again, like Bamba, has he got the consistency in his game? Subs N/A - no influence on the game, but glad to see Waggy get some game time. Ref - rivals the pilloc from Newcastle H last season with that 10 mins in the second half. Doesn't even register a score.
Swalker Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Has he ever saved a shot from outside the box? Seems to happen every week. Yes he doesn't save many outside the box, that's clearly Weale's main weakness. If he can improve there he will be one of if not the best keeper in the league. He is an underrated keeper and apart from long range shots he is class- but can have bad games. But Weale could do nothing about today's goals the first was mostly the fault of not clearing our lines. I agree with the first ratings of the players spot on. Yuki+ Wellens ran the midfield, King again quiet (maybe needs resting because he has played most of our games)
lcfc_jme Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Weale - 6 Naughton - 7 Bamba - 8 Mee - 5 Berner - 6 Yuki - 8 King - 7 Wellens - 9 Dyer - 7 The Yak - 8 Darius - 7
marbelladave Posted 22 January 2011 Posted 22 January 2011 Many of you will have seen the game and here are several summaries of the game up already, so I will just expand the ratings slightly to give a view on how I think we played... Weale 7. Actually a pretty decent performance over all, despite yet another different center back pairing he looked confident and in good form. Beaten from range but for once I do not think it was his fault, excellent finish. I like to give the keeper some credit when the penalty taker misses the target, that early it could have changed the whole game. Naughton 7. Defensively pretty sound, not much got past him and what did ran straight into Bamba, ouch! Not presured anything like as much as his colleagues on the other flank allowed him to get forward well and often, however he needs to be prepared to play it simple on occassions, the cutting run or killer pass is not always going to be on. Bamba 8. Awsome, not in his play but his attitude, absolutely immense in defense he loves to bring the ball out and set up attacks. Could be more selective in his forays forward but is so effective it is hard to criticise. Like Naughton he needs to learn to play it simple on occassions but that said he loses possession less often than you might think. Scores goals too, whats not to like. Mee 4. Catastrophic start, showed real nerve to keep going thereafter specially since Berner went missing a lot and he had little or no support either from central midfield or the wide man. As far as I could see the second penalty was not down to him, if there was contact it came from behind (Abe?) but it looked innocuous, just a 'coming together' really. Berner 4. A poor performance from an experienced player, I lost count of the number of times he left Mee exposed in the first half, he did a little better after the break but if he continues to be a starter, then he needs to play a little more conservstively and tighten up defensively. King 7. Competent all round performance, fine pass to Dyer for the goal and some decent forward runs which Millwall mostly defended well, helped, I think, by him still playing too far forward. Abe 7. The usual all action performance, hunting down the ball carrier all over the pitch. Looks to be getting more comfortable on the ball and is slowly begining to bring out the creative side of his game. As his confidence increases he becomes more and more effective, pretty impressive. Wellens 8. Another good all round performance, did pretty much a bit of everything and the bulk of City's attacking moves went through him. His recent improvement continues apace, if he gets much better I will have to start giving him real praise, something I neve espected earlier this season. Somehow though, he does need to find a way to be more effective in the final third, neither his final ball nor his shooting is yet good enough. Vassell 6. As has been pointed out elsewhere, he looked slightly off the pace. Played narrow and stayed close to Yakubu only going wide on occasion to stretch play and keep their fullbacks honest. Gave both Dyer and Naughton space to attack down the line, pretty much showed the blueprint of how he should play in that systen, just needs to be a little bit sharper, Dyer 8. Super performance, attacking at pace all across their backline, an acomplished finish for his goal he could, and probably should have had at least one more. Did not do a lot to help our defensively, particularly when Berner and Mee were having such a tough time but that said he really is at his best getting the ball well forward, far more effective than when getting the ball in midfield having tracke all the way back. Yakubu 8. Another good goal and a great setup for Bamba, he leeds the line with a prescence and commitment I have not seen at City for some time. He is so confident that he is always prepared to take on defenders, an attitude that creates real fear. Substitutes. None of them had any great impact, the game was pretty much done. Referee. Shoddy in the extreme, making obvious errors then compounding the issue by somehow trying to compensate.
Corky Posted 23 January 2011 Posted 23 January 2011 Weale- 7 Naughton- 8 Bamba- 8.5 Mee- 4 Berner- 5 Abe- 8 King- 8 Wellens- 8.5 Dyer- 8 Yak- 8 Vassell- 6

Conscript Fox Posted 23 January 2011 Posted 23 January 2011 Some people being very kind to Mee on here, either that or they really werent watching closely. Saying he won headers and distributed it well saved him, but I remember very few of the headers he actually did win not going straight to an onrushing Milwall player, and he frequently didnt jump at all, prefering to drop off for some reason, also, regarding his distribution, he knocked it along the line well, but thats a basic requirement, anytime he looked to play it forward it was a different story, I remember 3 or maybe 4 woefull punts into the channel carrying straight through to the opposition keeper, the very worst kind of hopefull pointless hoofing. Yes he had a shaky start, but a shaky middle and end too. He did the basics, just, and even then only some of the time. Will need to show a lot more, and quickly. I give him a 3 or a 4.
martyn Posted 23 January 2011 Posted 23 January 2011 Weale 7 Naughton 7 Bamba 8.5 Mee 3.5 (Can't believe some giving him a 7) Berner 4.5 Abe 8 Wellens 8 King 7 Dyer 7.5 Yakubu 7.5 Vassell 6.5 Subs: Oakley 6, Waghorn 6, Howard N/A
