Finnegan Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 OK why do you need to take the piss then? Entertained me for a few minutes. How am I being petulant exactly? All I've said is that I don't like him.
HankMarvin Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 I don't think that in his prime there is any question that he was better than Weale, although I have to say I am surprised by the bit in bold (although he does appear to be 3rd out of the 3). I always thought of him as a typical continental keeper, good shot stopper but a bit of a flapper on crosses, and clearing his box. It is also worth noting that above him on the goalkeepers of World Cup 2006 is Jens Lehman and I wouldn't want him between the sticks tomorrow night. That was over 4 years ago, and Ricardo is 34, I know he's a goalie but that is still old, and he hasn't played a league match for a season and a half. Me neither his 41 and retired last year so probably not the best comparison
Captain... Posted 31 January 2011 Posted 31 January 2011 Me neither his 41 and retired last year so probably not the best comparison Maybe not a good comparison seeing as Jens Lehman was playing first team football last year and Ricardo wasn't Although my point was more that being good 4 years ago doesn't make you any good now.
themotivator Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 pretty sure we would easily of had given over ricardo if it were possible, but didn't go through so what can you do. obviously sven wouldn't have ignored the fact that he hasn't played for so long. do you think he is a total retard? we trialled him, he "impressed" we had to sign him as given couldn't be signed.
cc_star Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 This post, further up the page sums him up http://www.foxestalk...dpost&p=1787714 He's done nothing for years & for the years even before that he wasn't great, except at saving (& scoring) pens Additionally I just think another Nationality amongst the English, Ivorian, Dutch, Swiss at the back with the Japanese just in front is making things far more complicated than they need to be for a side that even the quietest manager in the world says doesn't talk enough Looking at Ricardo's record for the past 5 or so years it sounds like he's just as likely to make a hash of things as Weale, and that was playing in a far better defence than ours will ever be. Still, Sven must have seen something in him during the trial.

If Bener plays ahead of PVA anyway that's the whole back 4 who speak perfect English so what's the issue?

Bob Weasel Fox Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Listen up folks!!! In SVEN :sge: WE TRUST!!!! Simples
funkyrobot Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Ricardo is better than Conrad. End of discussion surely?
lcfcsnow Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Pleased with van aanholt and Ricardo, two areas that needed sorting. but abit disappointed we havent strengthened the midfield. Might sound extreme but if anything happened to our 3 midfielders it's season over, we can't have Oakley coming back into the side.
Daveaway Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 Who is this striker Daniel Uchechi, played for Charlton, West Ham and has recently been playing in Nigeria. Is there any need for him. Unless Sven thinks he going to one for the future, can't really see him getting any near the first team or even on the bench.
B52 Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 So, if Given goes to Spain fans there say: He hasn't played for a year and he wanted to play in a lower league, he must be bad. I can think of a lot of reasons why Ricardo hasn't played. Salary if he plays a certain amount of games, Betis has a younger goalie for the future, injuries and so on....

But that is not the case, Shay hasn't played for half a season, Ricardo hasn't played for 18 months at least, it could be longer, Shay is (not) playing for one of the best teams in England at the moment with the current England goalie keeping him out the team, Ricardo was (not) playing for a second division team (albeit they are top of the second division but he also wasn't in the team when they got relegated last season) and the keeper who is keeping him out the team is hardly any great shakes either.

I have not seen any of the keepers so I am trying to see the big picture here. What can Weale learn from Ricardo? Movement and communication? What can Ricardo give to the team? Experience and competition? Remember Sven tried to get Given so this is probably sven's last option to get an experienced goalie without spending a lot of cash.
ibbosuk Posted 1 February 2011 Posted 1 February 2011 The fact Carroll has gone for £35million shows the crazy lack of value in the January Transfer Window. Sven wouldn't buy anyone who isn't beneficial for the club, therefore the inflated fees mean many possible signings will be immediately stopped due to the requested fee. I think, to date, he's done a good job (Bednar noted). Hopefully he is keeping his powder dry for the next window, but yesterday was poor, concidering there is such massive expectation, somebody work out what we have spent, including loan wages and post it....Ta.
