Bit of a weird one, this weekend. What happens after the final whistle if England lose?

I mean they can't actually hand them the trophy until we've played our game, presumably. Despite how unrealistic it is that we'd put twenty or thirty points over France it's still possible.

If England lose the game but win the championship they get no presentation? Or what?

And, in theory, what's to stop Ireland winning and then France (if losing in the last fifteen minutes) relaxing and letting Wales just run in a few more tries to tip the balance so that England lose the Championship?

Not suggesting for one moment that the French would do that, that England will lose or that Wales will win but surely both games should be played at the same time?

I appreciate that that would eat into coverage and viewing figures, but still...

They will just do a token presentation at some other point mate, im sure France were given the trophy few years ago after another game not involving them finished.

Your results since the 1st weekend highlight what a big win that was for us in Cardiff, Ireland away when we are aiming for the slam will never be easy but hoping that our half backs can dictate today.

But could that other game have decided the outcome of the tournament? I mean what would they do if the gap was, say, actually only about 10 points? And you lost by five? They'd give you the trophy and let you dance around with it and then if we won by seven you'd look like right tarts.

I mean realistically you've already won the Championship, short of a miracle, but even so. It does seem a bit weird - I can't remember it being quite this strange on the last day before but maybe it's just that I've never thought about it.

Yeah we said right from the start that the winner of that England / Wales game would be a likely front runner come the end of the campaign, I was more nervous about that game than any other in recent history to be honest - still gutted we lost. I think we've played fairly poorly, though, to be honest. As have Ireland and France.

I don't want to fall into the trap of claiming it's been a weak tournament or hinting that England don't deserve it because it irked me when people came out with the same thing after 2008. That year I think it was Guscott that came out with a rare nugget of wisdom, pointing out that "you don't get a Grand Slam for free." It'll certainly be an achievement if England win today, no doubt.

But taking my Wales hat off and looking at the tournament as a spectacle I have to say I've been a tad disappointed and it does make me fear for the Northern hemisphere come the World Cup.

This has been a very strange 6 nations so far......

England, presuming nothing calamitous happens in the welsh game deserve to win it, but not because they have been in fine form, they have simply been consistently average. Flashes of skill in certain games but nothing else. The 'home' nations need to be booking an early holiday after the world cup. all of them, including france, on this showing.

Fair summary, MPH, and I'm glad of your honesty.

This is a fantastic game so far though. Hope Ireland can keep this up and give us a fighting chance going in to Paris!

God, I love our green cousins.

Mh. This is slipping away from us and we've not even started playing yet!

Come on Ireland, ffs!

Edit: Ireland's back row forwards have been absolutely fantastic today.

This game is a bit like watching LCFC this afternoon only one team wants to or believes they can win it and it isn't England and it wasn't LCFC.

Could, and should, have been about 35 - 40 points for Ireland. That was one of the most one sided games I have ever seen.

Wallace and Heaslip were staggeringly good, Paulie and Sexton were great too as was O'Callaghan.

Think it's still England's, though, France will need a soccer-style capitulation in their dressing room for us to do this.

Ireland stop England winning the Grand Slam and the Triple Crown.

Oh yeah! :cool::beer:

ireland were indeed terrific... it just felt like england couldnt be arsed which is scandalous really when you consider the grand slam was within grasp. its mind numbingly stupid to of given Wales a chance however slim. Now dont misunderstand me, ireland would probably have won even if we did put a shift in, we just didnt even seem to want to put that shift in. Bit like watching the Leicester game earlier really. Same level of effort anyway.

Off to buy my all blacks shirt for the world cup

England have already won.

This is diabolical. After all the excitement of Dublin and the promise of a half-chance we've just remembered that we've been shit for the last three years and nothing's changed.

This game actually epitomises the whole 6 nations tournament...
