The Doctor Posted 9 February 2011 Posted 9 February 2011 You don't need to tell him twice. Jeeeeeeeeeez! hah, thought i'd got away with that. computer is completely buggered, os failure so i'm on an old laptop which, while it does the job okay, is worse than jim leighton in terms of quality
tartanowl Posted 9 February 2011 Posted 9 February 2011 I never thought I'd see the day I'd say this. I am disappointed Scotland won 3-0. That should have been 5,6 possibly even 7-0. Brilliant performance but it would have been fantastic if we had taken the chances and made a huge statement. I thought we would win tonight but I didn't think it would be that easy. We tore them to shreds and looked like scoring nearly every time we went forward. Great confidence booster for the boys anyway.
The Doctor Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Back in just over 2 weeks time: 23rd May - ROi v NI 24th May - Scotland v Wales 26th May - NI v Wales 27th May - ROI v Scotland
Finnegan Posted 10 May 2011 Author Posted 10 May 2011 No fucking way Bale will play. The rest of our decent players will probably all be sunning it up some where resting up. God I'm so disillusioned by this tournament after all the early promise. Nobody gives a toss.
The Doctor Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 Bale wouldn't have played even if charlie hadn't injured him.
Finnegan Posted 11 May 2011 Author Posted 11 May 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13335634.stm Complete and total farce. The first games during season time, the second two clashing with the play offs. Utter mess. So tinpot.
FoxyPV Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 Beat a depleted Scum team 5 - 0 tonight. Average result.
Guest Bilo Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 Without wishing to sound ludicrously arrogant and Anglocentric, I do feel this tournament would have been taken a lot more seriously if it had been a proper revival of the Home Nations and England had been included. The timing has of course been a massive factor in it being treated as something of a sideshow as well which is a shame. A summer tournament ever four years between World Cup and Euros (i.e. 2011, 2015 and so on) surely wouldn't be too much to ask and would revive some interest in what was a very popular competition. It'd certainly do better than this farce.
Stevosevic Posted 24 May 2011 Posted 24 May 2011 King likely to play tomorrow? He played against England and Bale is missing again so i guess so...?

Sadly the British media find it almost impossible to actually give a shit unless England themselves participate, look at the coverage - even on the BBC - this has gotten, it's just a joke. No media coverage equals no money, no money equals no weight, no weight equals club managers effectively destroying the competition with withdrawals and limits on playing staff. This has been an over-glorified set of friendlies, Gary Speed is making sure to give his whole squad "a go" over the next two games purely to "help keep fitness up". Okay, mate, thanks for that. So, yes, England being in it would make a bit of a difference but only if they came with the right attitude.

I think it's the timing more than anything else - spread out of a load of months. Play the tournament over one/ two weekends to keep the interest high.

The main thing is that it's not as interesting for the fans or players really. Would any Welsh fan or player get as fired up for the visit of Norn Iron as they would for Rooney et al? No chance, just as a Scottish fan wouldn't be as excited to count the Mill Stad as their biggest away day of the tournament over Wembley. The press would love it, the fans would love it and the players would be much more interested. The only real rivalry I can see in this tournament is Eire v Northern Ireland, apart from that it's exactly as you described; a glorified set of friendlies. England-Scotland would NEVER be a friendly.
BlueSi13 Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Can't imagine the England team or the FA would want anything to do with a tournament like this one. If we win...ahh well we were supposed to win...much bigger country, highest paid footballers in the world, doesn't mean we will go on to beat the world's top 3, would mean nothing to us going forward if we wish to compete at the top again etc etc etc etc etc. If we lose...national outrage, the England manager would be under serious pressure to resign/be sacked, it would totally destroy any confidence/pride the team is very fragilely trying to rebuild after 30 odd years of underachievement, and we'd never hear the last of it from our brothers across the borders. In short, the tournament would be almost lose-lose from an English perspective. Sure there would be a **** ton more interest from the media/fans, but that would only be because most would just be waiting for England to **** it up so the knives can come out again.
Guest Bilo Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Looking at it another way though BlueSi, surely it would be better for players to gain the experience of competitive games than play meaningless friendlies? I'm pretty sure any English player would be far more fired up for a Home Nations game at Hampden than a meaningless friendly against Greece at Wembley. It would be an opportunity to sample an atmosphere and a meaningful set of matches closer to a World Cup or European Championship experience than any number of matches against Slovakia or Brazil's B team in Qatar could ever produce. It'd be great for the fans as well to see some matches with a bit of bite without having to traipse all over the world to watch Capello experiment with his team.

The 6N is lose-lose for us. We expect to beat you amateurs every year and then there's national outrage when we don't.
BlueSi13 Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 The 6N is lose-lose for us. We expect to beat you amateurs every year and then there's national outrage when we don't. Wales expect to beat England at Rugby? Genuinely surprising given Englands history at egg-chasing when compared to the Welsh. But to Bilo, sure a percentage of England fans would like the idea of playing the Scots again, but i think most of us when given the choice between them or a game against the French, Germans, Argentinians, Turks or Spanish for example....i think we both know what the majority would pick
Guest Bilo Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Granted, but we get perhaps one decent friendly in a blue moon. The majority are against sides like Switzerland, Greece and Slovenia who with all due respect hardly whet the appetite. Also, the Home Nations would be competitive football as opposed to random friendlies.
Adster Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 This is a really good stream: http://veetle.com/index.php/channel/view#4dd2dd48b0291 You need Veetle though, it's worth it.
I am Rod Hull Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Are all the games on neutral grounds ? Seems daft if they are... They sould do rugby 6 nations style fixtures...
