stivesfox Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Anyone else go to Madrid and filbert street when we played Madrid in uefa cup! Just saw home leg on classic TV how Many penaltys should we have had that night!!! Mate said he seen it on YouTube the O'neill interview was tasty! Though remembered for marshalls goal in Spain
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Absolute nightmare journey on the buses to the away leg. Culminated in being held in a compound for about an hour by gun toting Spanish police. Made even worse by the people who had gone by air all singing "Leaving on a jet plane" at the stadium.
Ashley Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Ian Marshall scored a ****ing great goal at atletico at atletico.
Guest Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 It was a pig and unjust but we're an unknown european team they are athletico.
body102 Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Gary Parker's sending off t filbert street was a disgrace just for trying to take a quick free kick
dbtcity Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Gary Parker got sent off for taking a quick free kick didn't he? If that was the game I was there not really 100% as I was 11
MattyFromLE Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Gary Parker got sent off for taking a quick free kick didn't he? If that was the game I was there not really 100% as I was 11 Yeah! Ref was an absolute chode.
Candidcamera Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 I remember watching the away leg on Eurosport and Gordon Banks was the co-commentator. The game started despite flares having been set off and the smoke meant you couldn't see the players. Kasey Keller according to Banksie was wearing contact lenses and you just thought what a travesty that the start wasn't delayed but it was City who played so well in the first 20 mins. Banksie wouldn't win any awards in the commentry hall of fame. It was such a proud night for City though.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 We'll be back one day. If we do, make sure you don't go by bus!!
Wymsey Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Remember my Father saying there was a massive fight afterwards.
thurnbyfox Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Remember it well I was one of the lucky?! few to experience the trip by bus! Never forget the scene at Viccy Park seeing 90 odd coaches Madrid bound was unbelievable! It was my 18th birthday that day as well had radom people buying me drinks on the ferry!
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Remember my Father saying there was a massive fight afterwards. Didn't see that myself although there were stories from various people about being twatted by the over-zealous spanish police. What was quite amusing in the home game was a lad I used to go to school with tried to get onto the pitch near the end and only got as far advertising hordings before being taken down by the showsec stewards and carried out. He only got banned by the club for the rest of the season as they said he understood his frustrations.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Re: Gary Parker's sending off. When Fabregas got sent off for shooting after the whistle went for his offside and all the commentators were saying, "I've never seen anything like it." Made me mad; I immediately thought of Gary Parker. Call themselves commentators or football pundits, they know nothing about football outside of the top half of the Premiership.

Van Persie * Maybe you should do some research about teams IN the top half of the premiership.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Van Persie * Maybe you should do some research about teams IN the top half of the premiership. I was about 80% sure I had got it wrong, but fair shout!
Karljohn Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 took the coach to madrid, never again! then sat up in the carling stand for the 2nd leg, 3 clear penno's that night all waved away, shocking!
Finnegan Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Was too young to go to Madrid but I was at Filbert Street. Absolutely gutting.
tomtom Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Coach trip from hell, no food no sleep felt like shit but was all worth it to see marshall score, Made sure I flew for the Vienna trip!
kitkatmint Posted 12 March 2011 Posted 12 March 2011 Was at home leg but cant really remember much as was young. Would love to watch this again! Shame i missed it.
