The Year Of The Fox Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 I understand the points you're making. It doesn't make you (or me) right though. To me a racist occurance is where you for whatever reason passionately hate someone for who they are. This will not apply to any leicester fans regarding yuke I am sure.
AlphaMaleFox Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 No, it's not OK (IMO) but at least it's (sort of) correct in that it is the welsh who are stereotyped for shagging sheep. The Abe chant is not OK & is not even correct on the nationality stereotypes - if it was something about dolphins or sushi then it wouldn't be racist but it isn't, it's dogs and so is racist. CORRECT racism, and WRONG racism. What's the difference?
Finnegan Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 Please remind me what everyone sing when we play against Cardiff or Swansea. "Sheep******rs!" This is OK? So you shut up. That's completely different. That would be a good analogy if you started singing "sheep shaggers" to fans of Bayern Munich because they, like the Welsh, are predominantly white.
The Doctor Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 CORRECT racism, and WRONG racism. What's the difference? the first one isn't correct racism you fool - it's misinformed b****r based on a probably untrue stereotype, the second one is racism.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 May 2011 Author Posted 7 May 2011 CORRECT racism, and WRONG racism. What's the difference? It's like good AIDS and bad AIDS.
Kitchandro Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 the first one isn't correct racism you fool - it's misinformed b****r based on a probably untrue stereotype, the second one is racism. I really don't see the difference. it's OK to take the mickey out of Welsh people but not Japanese people?
acooling08 Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 Yuki Abe is Japanese. Japanese people are not known for eating dog meat. Korean people are known for eating dog meat, hence why Man Utd fans joke about it to Park Ji-Sung. This is banter, it may not be "factually correct." Park Ji-Sung may not (and probably does not) eat dogs but it's just the United fans having a bit of a laugh at his country's expense. It is light hearted. Yuki Abe is not South Korean. Nor is this a Japanese stereotype. By singing this song to Yuki Abe, all our fans are doing is saying "you look like Park Ji-Sung, you must be like him." Surely you understand why this is racism? Not only is it embarrassing that our fans started blindly copying United's fans without actually considering why United's fans were singing it in the first place, it is racist to assume something of the Japanese purely because they LOOK similar to Koreans and lastly it is made worse by the fact there's massive friction between the Japanese and the Koreans anyway. Bert made a very good point about this when I was getting annoyed before, it's wrong of me to assume that just because I have a number of Japanese friends and am interested in that part of the world, that other people are equally knowledgeable. Bert was right when he said that a lot of people singing the Yuki Abe song won't know that it's offensive and I shouldn't be too critical and start randomly calling people racist. Fair point. But to have it explained to you (which we have done on this site like 250230853 times) and to still keep insisting that it's "just banter?" Sorry mate, no. It's ignorance, not racism. You personify PC gone absolutely mad. I doubt Yuki finds it offensive at all. Just let it go. I WAS there when Yuki scored!
Haydos Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 I really don't see the difference. it's OK to take the mickey out of Welsh people but not Japanese people? It's not 'taking the mickey' It's lumping Japanese people with Korean people because they look the same.
The Doctor Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 I really don't see the difference. it's OK to take the mickey out of Welsh people but not Japanese people? calling the welsh sheep shaggers is based on a stereotype that the welsh shag sheep. Saying yuki eats dogs is based on stereotype that the koreans eat dogs, yet yuki is japanese not korean. edit: What a suprise that acooling doesn't understand racism.

A stereotype that the Welsh shag sheep? I think thats called banter and a laugh, not a stereotype, surely we all know most of them don't shag sheep?
AlphaMaleFox Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 That's completely different. That would be a good analogy if you started singing "sheep shaggers" to fans of Bayern Munich because they, like the Welsh, are predominantly white. Germans prefer pigs, you know

B52 Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 Slating a Spanish person for killing bulls (as in bullfighting) would not be racist, just harsh and 'uninformed banter' (according to you) But I mistake an Italian for a Spanish person because they have a similar complexion, slate them for killing bulls and that IS racist? Hrmm, I think you can get a clue to why talking banter about an asian person from Japan can be racist, and not banter about europeans within Europe, in the word racism....... Get it, race againt each other. Great win today though..
Larry_LCFC Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 Only Foxestalk could turn a thread of celebration and appreciation for Yuki Abe into a mass debate on ****in racism. Jesus people stay on the sodding topic!
AlphaMaleFox Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 Eh, Scottish or Welsh, you all are English for Japanese, For ignorant Asian people all European people look the same and so must all be the same, and that is racist, no two ways about it. This is mistaken stereotyping - nothing more, nothing less, you bowler hat wearing tea drinkers!
alex walker Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 he's here hes there he's every fvcking where its yuki abe yuki abe
AlphaMaleFox Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 yuki , he'll eat your fooking fish whale Banter, not racism
broughtonblue Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 I was there when... The future England striker Wellens Jnr scored a screamer at the kop end. Absolutely brilliant, if ever a crowd 'sucked' a ball into the goal this was it. One of the best things I've seen for ages, the celebration was brill as well
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 May 2011 Author Posted 7 May 2011 Oi! Racism arguments can go elsewhere! This is my "Yuki Abe Scored!!!" thread. It's a cause for celebration! So if you wanna argue, take it outside! Hijacking my thread...
The Year Of The Fox Posted 8 May 2011 Posted 8 May 2011 B52- Weakest argument ever! Asia is a continent as is Europe. Japan is in Asia!
B52 Posted 8 May 2011 Posted 8 May 2011 B52- Weakest argument ever! Asia is a continent as is Europe. Japan is in Asia! Didn't you understand what I said? Racism is between races - Not between different countries or parts of countries(people from the same race if I have to put it any clearer for anybody who don't get the difference between banter and racism). If an englishman is talking banter about an asian it can be racist but if an englishman is talking about some sheepshagger it's just banter..... I am sorry to say I wasn't there when Abe scored but He will score a lot more next year.
Itsthejoeker Posted 8 May 2011 Posted 8 May 2011 Please remind me what everyone sing when we play against Cardiff or Swansea. "Sheep******rs!" This is OK?So you shut up. I think you'll find they carry around blow up sheep and sing it about themselves... That is banter.
