Uncle Phil Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 I do like to enjoy a pint of Tiger when back in Leicester. Had a couple from other breweys in the county too last time I was back, think maybe Oakham brewery? in the Criterion. I had a few though and can't remember exactly.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 Plenty of good ales down here in Devon and plenty of good brewery's. I usually drink Doombar, that and Tribute are the usual finds here. We had a beer from Rutland down here not long ago though, Silly Billy I think it was, pretty tasty. I do love a pint of Doombar when in the south-west. When in Leics, a trip to Burrough -on-the-Hill, Grant's Freehouse and a half (it's all you'll need) of Baz's Bonce Blower. Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!
Guest Bilo Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 The Globe on Silver Street, The Swan and Rushes near the LRI and The Criterion across the road from DMU's Law Building are all good places to enjoy real ale in Leicester in my opinion. You should be able to find Oakham Ales, Batemans or Everards at most good real ale pubs around this way, have a look for the CAMRA sign at the entrance. They're my personal favourite breweries but keep an open mind because there are some top class breweries in this country you'll never have heard of. Abbeydale make some lovely beers but are largely restricted to South Yorkshire, though the S&R have one or two on tap on occasion. Belvoir is a good local brewery as well but not all that common.

My dad lives in the Ale Wagon, says the Salmon's decent for a 'sherry' as well.

Not surprised, some cracking pubs in Leicester that I haven't visited yet. Fully intend to before I graduate though. Best thing to do though is to buy a Good Pub or Good Beer Guide, most of the pubs I've made a point of visiting because of their presence in those books provide a pretty decent standrad of booze and atmosphere. Some real gems that you mightn't otherwise bother with.

Took me to some place in Liverpool called Dr. Duncan's, Friday afternoon and absolutely rammed with people drinking the stuff, young and old.
Webbo Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 Yes they did. The interior of that pub is very well decorated as well.

Have you, or anyone else for that matter, been in The Pub up New Walk ? I found there beer guide online and stone me there looks some fine drinks on sale. The Pub drinks I wanted to go in last Saturday but we only ended up as far as The Globe.
The Padster Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 a half (it's all you'll need) of Baz's Bonce Blower. Tried this at the beer festival. Got a good knockout punch to it.

Fairly newly opened as well I do believe. Sure I haven't seen it called that for very long.
tartanowl Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 There's a micro brewery in Bradfield near Sheffield that does some crackers. I'm fond of a pint of Deuchars IPA too.
Anorak Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 The free guide they gave out at last weeks beer festival had a really good list of what city centre pubs do what kind of real ales. Wasn't even aware of a couple of the places mentioned.
lcfcadam Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 Anything from here. Easily up there with the world's best beers.
AoWW Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 The interior of that pub is very well decorated as well. You reckon? I've always thought it looks a bit shabby.
Webbo Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 You reckon? I've always thought it looks a bit shabby. Are you sure you are not getting confused with the working mens club? It's a very smart place, I doubt that they'd let you in.
AoWW Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 Are you sure you are not getting confused with the working mens club? It's a very smart place, I doubt that they'd let you in. Nope, it was definitely the Royal Oak in Quorn. I was wearing my best gear that day, n'all.

lcfcadam Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 who keeps thinking up all these stoopid names for supposedly real ales ? it just fookin beer You sir, go wash your mouth out with soap!
Zingari Posted 17 March 2011 Posted 17 March 2011 You sir, go wash your mouth out with soap! after drinking some of the stuff they keep passing off as real ale it would be a pleasure seriously though , some of it's okay, but my point was that real ale drinkers are now getting as pretentious as those wine drinking nobs
Trav Le Bleu Posted 18 March 2011 Posted 18 March 2011 stoopid names for beer number 1 This reminds me of someone...
Zingari Posted 18 March 2011 Posted 18 March 2011 This reminds me of someone... nope , i can't think who you mean, although i've heard of a big-boned yak , but he's not pale surely it can't be him ?
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 18 March 2011 Posted 18 March 2011 Anything from here. Easily up there with the world's best beers. worth a trip to the brewery in the village of Hook Norton (beleive it or not) not far from Banbury. there is a FREE brewery museum with a lot of local history as well, and a good shop that sells bottled beers at a good price, hoody's, tee shirts, jackets, beer glasses etc AND a bar selling all their beers. Good stuff!
