muzzy1981 Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 QPR - 10/11 Conceded = 23 Defence Average Age = 30 Championship Experience = 40years Newcastle - 09/10 (Champions) Conceded = 35 Defence Average Age = 27 Birmingham - 08/09 (Promoted - 2nd) Conceded = 35 Defence Average Age = 30 Leicester Current back 4 average age = 23 This historically shows a solid mostly experienced back four is needed. Forget Michael Owen we need an experienced centre half or two please.....

You can prove most things with stats if you're very selective, that's not to say what you've shown isn't true, it might be it's just not proved by your very limited stats.
ajthefox Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 While you've obviously been selective, it doesn't take a genius to work out some maturity in your defence is a good thing. *awaits mention of a certain defender we had last year*
lcfc_jme Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 To be honest, I wouldn't care if our back 4 next season was Naughton - Bamba - Hobbs - Decent Left Back. I'm pretty sure that'd be a solid enough back 4 if it was allowed to play together consistently and forge an understanding. Experience is good, yes, but ability and potential need game time in order to get experience.
joelmurray Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Yeah we need a consistent back four before deciding that who we have is no good. I don't know how many different combinations we've had through injury/suspension/strange team selection this season...possibly the lack of experience might not help this but a consistent back four would do wonders.
muzzy1981 Posted 7 April 2011 Author Posted 7 April 2011 You've shown nothing here. I have shown: 1. That the over the last three seasons the teams with the best defensive records have been promoted. 2. The average age of the back 5 (incl GK) who have made the most appearance for each club in that particular season 3. Didn't have time but also totted up that QPRs most consistant back 5 this season have approx 40 years of championship experience The point is if we want to get promoted next season automatically (Should never aim for play-offs) we need more experience in the back line.....Quite simple f~## wit!!
David Guiza Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 It's not necessarily the back fours fault when we concede goals. The year we went down our back four of Stearman, Kisnorbo, Mcauley and Sheehan/Mattock was solid but the main reason for that was the fact the midfield didn't move out or half.

What about the stats of the other 4 promoted clubs from each of the 2 previous seasons i.e. 08/09, 09/10? What were their defensive stats like?

We had the best defensive record in the league that year I believe, just couldn't score to save our lives.
Bugg Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Why have you ignored the other team who went up in 08/09 as Champions. Did they have a young defence?
Bert Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 It's not just the defence. The midfield have a major job to do defending too and people should realise that. If we can keep Naughton then with Bamba, we're halfway there to a solid defence.
trueblue2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 mate you need to get a life and get laid not worry about poinless stats

Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 mate you need to get a life and get laid not worry about poinless stats And you need to learn punctuation.
Bert Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 And you need to learn punctuation. You should never start a sentence with the word "and".
muzzy1981 Posted 7 April 2011 Author Posted 7 April 2011 mate you need to get a life and get laid not worry about poinless stats Funny you should mention getting laid I've just finished rooting your mum and whilst on the subject of stats, thats 3rd time this week averaging about 10 times a month now.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 And you need to learn punctuation. You should never start a sentence with the word "and". And so my teacher taught me.
StanSP Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 I thought they'd gone forever. They're slowly creeping back. Unfortunately.
Roy Cropper Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 The key stat there is that none of those teams had Bruma or Van Aarnholt playing for them. In fact, can you get some statistics to see if a team has ever got promoted when 2 of the back four clearly couldnt give a toss about the club they are playing for?
Jonezy Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 "The problem arises when people use statistics like a drunk uses a lamp post: for support instead of illumination."

Van Aanholt was at Newcastle last season
Roy Cropper Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Van Aanholt was at Newcastle last season Must just be us he can't be arsed with then!
Joe. Posted 7 April 2011 Posted 7 April 2011 Obviously having a good defence is strong grounding for any successful promotion bid, but it doesn't always work out like that. Leeds could quite easily go up this season, and they've conceded plenty this season. Luckily for them they can find the net when they need to.
