Williams and Hughes

I hope CL would only let them go if he got the cash to spend on players and had sorted out some better replacments. Not that he will easily find one for Hughes.

And the last player in is Stephen Hughes from Leicester. Dont know if anyone has heard of this guy but he was recently selt to Leicester from Rangers for a nominal fee. Sunderland are the other main contender for his signature but Pearce fanices his chances. He was actually looking at Darren Kenton when he saw Hughes playing for Leicester. The bid is supposed to be in the region of 1.7m. But his availibiltiy is unknown. Ill try and post more when i know. And if you are wondering how i get this info it is simply becuase i am the son of a board memeber.

This is a rumour that Man City are looking at buying Hughes now.:angry::mad::mad::mad:

hmmm £1.7mil - interesting if it did happen as i think the board would accept.

I'd sell him for that much, I honestly would. Any team who offered that amount of money after we paid only £100k 5 months ago must be abit trigger happy.

Hughes is going to be a class player, but in the current transfer market you'd only expect to fetch about £1.5 - 2 million for him after a few good seasons. To get that amount after a few months is silly money and I doubt Man City would offer that. If they did, I wonder how tempted Levein would be. For that amount we could get a few good players in to aid our chances of promotion.

It's a hard decision if true, I doubt it is though. I'd rather it not be as I want Hughes to stay but at that price you'd have to consider it.

I find it difficult to believe that Hughes would bugger off already, hes not been here 5 minutes! Its close season rumour-mongering at its best (or worst)

Firstly I hope this rumour is a load of crap. If it were true then I think we should sell at more than 2 mill. (depending on sell on clauses etc) and re-invest the money.:huh::ph34r::unsure:

I can't see Manchester City going for him - They need a striker more than anything else, and they have a limited budget.

Hughes is proven himself to be a quality player and to sell him would give us a short term gain, which is not what we want. Surly we want promotion and a decent long term future, which can only come from keeping the good players, because if we sell the better players for this season. Then we will have no choise but to sell all of them at the end of next season and the season after we will be relegated

So somebody is sniffing around Williams then.:huh::unsure::D:D:thumbup:;)

Think I can put your minds at rest concerning Hughes, However the Williams situation is`nt quite as certain !

When asked "What do you think we'd get for him? £300,000?" the reply was:-

Would hope for a bit more than that really but transfer fees have become a bit more realistic now so you may well be about right, also agree that playing them both is very difficult as they are so similar, it would mean sticking one of them out wide, a real shame though, I really rate Williams he`s a cracking player, still, he aint gone (yet) !

I know every player has his price, but I'd be very disappointed to see Hughes go. I think it would take a monster bid to prize him away from Levein, who obviously knows he got a bargain from Rangers, and won't want to let him go.

Williams? Only if he's got a better replacement ready and waiting. We're not exactly blessed with silky skills in the middle of the park if either leaves.

Can confirm that Williams was being watched by a Premiership club towards the end of least season

must be one who's doesn't want to rely on him for creating goal scoring chances then?!

anyway it'll be sad to see him go, as he looks as cool as fukk

Id be very sad if we selt Gareth. I think he is a great player with bags of potential. But if it came down to letting Hughes or Williams go im afraid id have to say Williams. Hughes is wasted on the wing and i think we will only see him at his best playing in the Centre. What prem team was this?

I'd agree with that, though perhaps not as sad about him leaving as he's such a frustrating player because he has the potential but so rarely uses it. Hughes is much better quality in my opinion. It is a little irritating that we'll probably make a loss on him if we sell him though...that said Levein spent 300k on Hughes and McCarthy so who knows what he could use the money for...

All that said, I still don't think Williams will go as any team scouting him won't really have seen him in his best light recently.

It is very strange.:ph34r: Above in this thread in this post the poster uses the word "selt" to mean sold. This post came off a well known transfer rumour board.

Now Muz has also used the same word "selt" to mean sold. Are the two posters related.:huh: Or is it a curious sub-dialect that I am not aware of. :S:blink::D:D:thumbup:;)

I will be seething if we let Williams go for that amount. For **** sake, we paid £500,000 for him with some add ons only a season ago. If a team wants a player and you don't want to sell them then you demand a reasonable fee for him. I wouldn't let Williams go for anything under £800,000 and even at that I think we've been had.

He's 23, he has alot of natural ability and his passing is second to none. Played in the right style of team and he's premiership class easily, i'll be horrified if Levein gets rid.

Please don't let this be true. We've already lost Dawson, can't they offer them that hamster Gudjonsson instead?

Did he ever actually play for them?

I thought they signed him, realised their mistake and then shipped him out to various clubs around the midlands...

I think we have two of the best central midfielders in the Championship, and to see either of them go will be a sad day.....

It only took 11 appearances for them to realise then.

Didn't he sign for Betis from Belgian club Genk? I think he was highly impressive during his spell there.

Cant believe MA signed him - he hardly set the world on fire at Wolves did he?

121259[/snapback]

He did well at Villa the season before, but found his chances limited at Wolves.
