Alex Black Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I have all but given up hope for Premiership Football next season. So i have decided to start considering what the Championship will be like for us and who we need to watch out for. I realize that a lot can change in 90 minutes, but focussing on the bottom 5 in the Premiership today : Blackburn Wigan Blackpool West Ham and Wolves With players like Scott Parker, Matt Jarvis, Charlie Adam, DJ Campbell, N'Zogbia, Paul Robinson, Carlton Cole and Tom Cleverley all possibly playing against us next season, the thought is slightly daunting. That's before considering the teams above us that don't receive promotion. So, next season, which players and what teams will be our biggest threats?

I'd reckon at least those three would leave their clubs and go to other Premiership teams, as for the others who knows.

Les-TA-Jon Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 Players will move around a lot - as usual. But the championship will be a much tougher league next season I think. Expectation at LCFC will be higher than ever. Pressure will be immense on the playing/coaching staff.
Kitchandro Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 Worried about everyone, and at the same time no one. As usual every side will be capable of beating us but we should be confident that we will win the league next season. We have some good players and money to buy other good ones. Most of those players mentioned will leave their Clubs if they are relegated anyway.
z-layrex Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I think we are doomed to mid-table mediocrity, again.

Most of those players mentioned will leave their Clubs if they are relegated anyway. This very much sums up how I feel. There will be plenty of teams with quality looking at promotion, but we have loads of potential, and I'be very surprised if we weren't favourites or there abouts come september if indeed we are still in this division. I think other teams will be more worried about us then what we should be of anyone else.
Joe. Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 Wouldn't say we should worry about anybody in the Championship, but I hate playing Cardiff. Wouldn't mind them going up so we don't have to play them next year.
Father Ted Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 In this division, I would have to say: Ipswich (really have hit good form since Roy Keane left including a 1-0 win vs Arsenal and 6-0 win at Doncaster. Bullard has been instrumental. Now only 1 point behind us.) Hull (Had a bad start and giving Pearson another season he may well be onto another play-off contending side.) Brighton (Will be full of confidence similar to us and Norwich and have a cracking manager in Gus Poyet.) Reading - if they don't go up. (If they can hold onto Kebe, Long and Mills they could be onto a winner.) They are my four tips to be up at the top. I would also say: Swansea (Will struggle if they lose their out of contract players like Pratley, Bodde and Rangel. They play boring football and should teams mark out Scott Sinclair, they struggle). Cardiff (Will also struggle if Bellamy, Koumas and Olofinjana go elsewhere. Bothroyd is out of contract. They are short on cash and if they don't go up could be further fcuked.) Norwich (Second season syndrome may kick in. How Grant Holt has scored that many goals in this division I do not know.)
MikeyT Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I think we are doomed to mid-table mediocrity, again. You can't say that though, who knows what will happen with players coming and going from the Walkers. I like your optimism though.

MikeyT Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 I know i'm far too pessimistic, but I find that way you can never be let down! Go on, have a teen tiny bit of optimism, i dare ya!
Ambitious Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 None of the teams struggling in the Premiership worry me, teams that are coming down are gonna be offloading players and having to rebuild their squad, Blackburn certainly don't worry me, with those 2 idiots as owners, they'll be heading for two relegations on the trot if they go down this season .
The Doctor Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 Cardiff are utterly ****ed if they don't go up. if leeds & narwich don't go up i can see at least one of grayson and lambert leaving for bigger things, Forest are serial bottlers, watford don't have the money to properly replace the likes of graham should he move on. With sven at the helm and the thai's money i don't think we should be too worried about those already in this division, blackpool are one season wonders, wigan aren't exactly that good either - i'd only really be concerned about west ham coming down - although they don't have that much money to cling on to current stars either. No doubt everything will change again this summer and i'll be left with egg on my face as usual.

Jackirius Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 The likes of DJ Campbell playing against us, are you shitting me?
Merging Cultures Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 Man Utd Chelsea Arsenal I was going to say the same...
Guest Bilo Posted 21 April 2011 Posted 21 April 2011 The teams that worry me most for next season if they stay down are: Cardiff - We seldom do well against them, especially away and they seem to have a bit of financial clout now. Dave Jones is no mug either. Swansea - Playing some great stuff under Brendan Rodgers and have only recently fallen away from the automatic spots. Possibly only a couple of players away from being an excellent side. Reading - Although they've thought the season begins in March two years in succession, if they do stay down and hit the ground running they'll be difficult to stop. Burnley - Despite a recent drop in form, Eddie Howe is a bright young manager and will come good. Hull - Pearson with money could be an interesting prospect. Teams I'm less worried about are Norwich who remind me a lot of us last season with momentum from a successful League One campaign, Leeds for the same reason, Watford who are very likely to lose Danny Graham in the summer and Forest who are seeing little investment in the playing staff and a manager who will tire of that fact eventually. In terms of teams that could be relegated from the Prem: Blackpool - Charlie Adam likely to leave. One hit wonders. They're the kind of club to keep the money they earned from their Premiership stint in the bank if last summer is anything to go by. Wolves - Mick McCarthy will know this division well and the parachute payments will be a factor. Big threat. West Ham - Not all that wealthy, Carlton Cole et al likely to leave and a team likely to be in transition. Teams raising their game for them will be a factor. Wigan - Mass exodus of talent if these go down and tiny fanbase will hardly help finances or ambition. Mid-table. Teams coming up from League One: Brighton - Play great football under Poyet and finally have a new stadium. Team on the up that could surprise a few. Southampton - Wealthy backers with some talented players, Rickie Lambert could cause havoc. A threat. Huddersfield - Bright young manager in charge and passionate support. Not big scorers though which could be a problem for them. Peterborough - Ambitious owner but manager who was woefully out of his depth with two clubs in the Championship and a shocking defence. Mackail-Smith will be vital and if he misfires, it could get embarrassing again for Posh. MK Dons - Good young manager again but they do tend to lose such managers on an annual basis. Unlikely to trouble the top six. Bournemouth - Little money, lost the talismanic Eddie Howe and seem to have relied on momentum from last season. Relegation battle.
