Ric Flair Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 There's gas left in Heskey's tank but he's very much like Vassell, never been a great goalscorer and players like that tend to get grief at Leicester. It's hard to know how many he'd score at this level but any striker who played alongside him would cherish it. If Heskey comes in then we need an instinctive predator, someone like Danny Graham would be great but I wonder whether money will only be released for 'big' names. As far as goalies go, Kieron Westwood is on a free transfer, give the lad a million signing on fee and he'll join us, all the money saved from the possibility of Shay Given could be better spent on our outrageously poor defence. I also want to see in another old international superstar, a midfielder who can run the show someone like Riquelme. Haha!
MC Prussian Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 It's as if they just nicked and mixed a couple of rumours, names and numbers off FT together to create a "story". And why is it the magical number of £10m again?
Guest Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 and then 5 loan players to fill out the squad. I think Schlupp btter find a loan team.
sphericalfox Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 So Mirror, Sun and Mail - http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3548563/Sven-Goran-Eriksson-told-to-splash-the-cash.html SVEN GORAN ERIKSSON is under orders to spend his way into the Premier League from Leicester's Thai owners. Father and son partnership Vichai and Top Raksriaksorn will sanction the Swedish boss' bid to sign up to 12 players from Premier League clubs. Manchester City keeper Shay Given and former Foxes striker Emile Heskey top his list of targets, while Eriksson also wants to make Yakubu's loan from Everton permanent. £10 mill wouldn't cover their signing on fees and bonuses. If that is true, what kind of message does that say to the players currently in the team? We think we can and will get better players than you ALL. I think it's stretching the truth, and if Sven can get 12 players for £10mill then he should had his rebirthday last weekend!

And why is it the magical number of £10m again? We probably won't even spend 10mill .. I fully expect another load of loanee's and maybe the odd signing. next years team will probably look like so .. GK who's at least 30+ and is out of favour. Loan signing Loan signing Bamba Loan signing Wellens King Loan signing Vassell Loan signing Gallagher
Callabinho Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Why not Heskey? He would certainly be more mobile than Howard, As for Given Arsenal should have signed him when they had the chance! if he can be offered a decent wage then due to his age he will come! anyway we heard Sven say he has only started talking to the likes of Benfica at the moment. An exiting summer in prospect who will we have on our shirts next season

TBF I think we are going to need around 12 players. Just because they're from the Prem doesn't mean they'll automatically be first choice. We need a 1st choice goalkeeper, a right back, a centre back (maybe 2), a left back, at least 1 maybe 3 midfielders (we are very short for back up in this area), a winger and a striker (maybe 3) Ok so that's about 10. The thing is King, Gallagher, Wellens and maybe Bamba (if we take his poor form as a blip) are the only players who don't need replacing (not counting loans in this)

Stevosevic Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Don't think Heskey is realistic to be honest. He is still playing for Villa, started the last 3 games, and they are short on strikers as Gabby is used a winger. And people saying he isn't good enough anymore Go and ask Villa fans who they want playing with Bent.

evs_the_fox Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 From how I read it, it isn't saying that those two players will cost £10million together.. it's just saying he will have that amount to spend and those two are targets. Hopefully repeating this comment will stop any more from saying £10m is too much for these two... I think we'd all agree to that. The story says Eriksson will have £10m-plus to spend and these are two targets along with Yak and Kamara. All potentially exciting news although Naughton and an experienced centre-back would also be more than welcome!
davieG Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Merc Sven-Goran Eriksson has admitted he has already started to draft a list of potential summer signings. The Leicester City manager said he had held talks with his staff and the club's owners over possible transfer targets, and he is expecting a very busy summer. City have already been linked with a move for Coventry City striker Marlon King, who is a free agent at the end of the season, but Eriksson said they had not made any approaches yet. "We have started looking at names but not spoken to any clubs yet because you aren't really allowed to do that until the end of the season," Eriksson said. "We don't want to do that. "I hope it will be very busy summer. A lot depends on the loan players' situations. That is the key, and then some other positions. We know what we need." King has scored 13 goals in 27 appearances for the Sky Blues this season, including in the 1-1 draw with City at the Walkers Stadium in February. Cardiff City are also said to be interested. Meanwhile, City have still not confirmed whether they have lined up a lucrative pre-season friendly with Real Madrid in July at the Walkers Stadium.

Interesting little article, doesn't really give much away. But the thought of that twat from Cov coming here makes my skin crawl .. HATE him.
Candidcamera Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 It will certainly be interesting this summer but I think Eriksson will go for youth. He realises that too many slow older players will not do the job. Having said that Heskey has pace and loves Leicester. Presumably he is a free agent ? His wages will be the same as some of the other stars. Somewhere on the Board it was suggested we may want Heskey and Viera I would prefer these and send Yak and perhaps Kamara back. Sven has shown good judgement but he has to realise that some of the loanees have not done the job this last few months.

Candidcamera Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 That's true too but I presume it was the loanees that were meant to push us on and I still prefer in the main the actual signed up players. It was a shame that Dyer never really got a look in because he was the one player that was flying under Sousa. Abe whilst a good squad player can't get a tackle in and the likes of Viera would harden us up. None of the defenders were better than Hobbs but I suppose he will want a move to Hull.
Ambitious Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 1. £10 million will not get us up, we need a lot more than that. 2. As much as I massively admire Emile Heskey for what he did for us when we went into administration in 2002, he is now 33 and isn't the Emile Heskey that we all remember in the Filbert Street days. If he was to come I wouldn't want him to be "our number 9", what I think would be beneficial to us if he came as Player/coach and get a young up and coming striker like Nils Petersen from Energie Cottbus who I admire, who Heskey can help nurture and train up, aswell as be a bit part player himself. 3. Same as Shay Given he's 35 and in my opinion thats too old, even for a Goalkeeper, I'd prefer someone like Fraser Forster, who is younger, in better form, and has the potential to become a better Goalkeeper than Given. 4. Yakubu aswell too old, inconsistant and past it, someone like Freddy Adu would be a much better proposition and I've heard Benfica are willing to let him go on the cheap. 5. Kamara - no thank you, again too old and past it. 6. The forward line of Nils Petersen and Freddy Adu would be lethal and would storm the Championship, but its a shame that someone behind the scenes of the Walkers Stadium doesn't see that. 7. Are we ever gonna ****ing change our transfer policy, and learn that this system of bringing in near retired rejects just doesn't ****ing work, and learn from examples such as Matt Busby, Brian Clough, Don Revie, Sir Alex Ferguson, George Graham, who prove that bringing through a promising young team is the best way to be successful. 8. Atleast it looks like the Durham Donkey Steve Howard is finally on his way back up north to Sheffield Wednesday, and he'll be playing in a league he belongs in, ah well you not what they say every cloud...

Well I guess that depends on how you measure their contribution, they are all considerable more comfortable on the ball and have better passing skills than Hobbs. Mee is particularly strong in the tackle and Vitor's intelligence and understanding of the game far exceeds Hobbs. Hobbs suited the style of play the Pearson plays but is lost when it comes to playing the way Sven wants to.

Kamara past it? At 30? Right. Freddy Adu is clearly garbage now as he's been loaned out to about 5 different clubs and now resides in the turkish 2nd tier. 10m is plenty to get us up, do you think all the other teams are going to be spending that much?
Candidcamera Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 I agree bring on the young, fast and exciting players but there is the need for players to steer us through the whole campaign. Warnock stocked his team up with agressive old time players who will preumably now be dispensed with. Leicester need some steel in the team.

Candidcamera Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 I have no idea about the players mentioned but I feel that we need a new front partnership.
