Yakubu

And what if Yakubu goes on a run of not scoring a few, this ultimately costs us promotion and the owners walk, and we're stuck with a forward on £75k a week?

Just a thought.

I think you may be mixing me up mate - I never said anything about £20k a week, and I'd actually agree with you on that point.

The point that I have an issue with is when you said it's 'Not your concern how much 'Top' decides to pay a player though is it?'.

I've read it in context and you're talking generally, not just about Yakubu, and to me it is my concern if Sven or Top decide to get in several big name players and our club is paying out 5 times as much a week as it did two years ago. It's unfortunate you don't think the same.

Pointless argument really, Sven/Top do not need 'permission' from anyone else to pay players what they think theyre worth.

I would expect clubs to structure contracts carefully these days, particularly those with experience of administration.

eg £35k for 3 year contract, if not promoted after year 1 salary drops to £20k?

Also, why would the owners walk? Surely they would need a buyer first???

It's a good idea but would Yakubu really accept it? It's a less acceptable offer than a flat £35k a year, from his point of view, for obvious reasons.

Why would they? You tell me. Look at Portsmouth, you don't know what modern day owners are capable of, as much as I like the Thais, they've still got a long way to go.

Key word. The fact of the matter is some don't, especially those with foreign investors. Eg. Man city, Aston Villa.

I'm not being rash here, I just think it's naive to let the club worry about the club. If that was the case, finances in football would be perfect.

You said it wasn't our concern, not that they need our permission - you're wandering off a little here mate...

Thats true, I expect that Pompey had many players on huge salaries (as we did pre-admin) We are talking about 1 player here, I just cannot beleive Sven would be reckless enough to put the long term future of the club at risk

Really though? Sven's shown he's not scared to spend money here in the past.

Then again, to totally contradict what I've just said, look at the latest developments, refusal to pay £35k a week, which I credit Sven there.

To Me....

The Thai's approached Sven to manage LCFC, they must have offered him a decent salary and promises regarding budgets else he wouldnt have accepted the job.

The aim being to get this club into the Premier League, surely thats what we all want ???

I dont understand why people on here worry so much about player salaries?

Yes we all want promotion but i think if we spend big now and dont get promoted this season, i can see the new owners not offering any money in future or even leaving. This is why we shouldnt spend stupid amounts and we need to use our budget wisely and economically, and not slapping the wage budget 35k + for yakubu. Although having said that its okay for one player, as long as we dont bring loads of players on similar wages to the yak!

Well, if you say so.

Think you get my point though?

Yes I agree with your new point that they don't need our permission but that still doesn't mean fans can't/don't have a say in modern football - if our club starts to bleed money and appears to be wildly mis-managed then I for one would happily take action. I don't think (and certainly hope) it would ever come to that because our new owners seem fairly switched on - but I will certainly be monitoring how much we're spending and who we're bringing in, because, unlike yourself, I do actually think it is my/our concern.

Think we both understand each other, so maybe time to let this thread get back on track...

I think Pompey had a bit more going on than the odd player on a high salary dont you?

No not really when they had the likes of crouch defoe campbell muntari glen johnson...etc they were clearly attracting players with salaries too big.for their club. That was the main reason for their downfall. I know that seems extreme right now but if we sign 4/5 players on salaries similar to the yaks.then we could well be going to adminstration.

And your point is?????????????

If I knew I was talking to someone who knew so little about football, I probably wouldn't have bothered with my last several comments.

I know all of this, I am a season ticket holder of 20 years, also I lost money having worked on the Walkers Stadium construction during the administration, I firmly beleive that there is no way this club would agian get in that kind of trouble again!

Just because Pompey went under it does not mean that we will, my gut feeling is that Sven and The Thai's will do a better job than those associated with Pompey

Nobody is saying this. Time and time again it HAS to be black and white for some people! Either you think we're about to go under or you think we'll be rich forever.

Find a post from someone who thinks we will go under.....you can't....they're just suggesting caution.
