Stevosevic Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 £3-4 milion for Yakubu or Graham or Morrison? Yakubu all day for me.
Ric Flair Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 So what would you rather have Yak scoring 2 against Peterborough at home or Yak scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win away at West ham ? Don't Be a smart arse and say both !.... and don't say who cares at the end of the day its only 3 points (Because one is vastly harder to achieve than the other) .....Which is my point. There are goals and there are important goals...... The yak DID NOT do it for us last season. Footnote: Not talking about anyone else here just the Yak. Depends if we beat Peterborough 2-0 or not. None of our players did the business against the big sides last season and everyone will have to improve but Yakubu has the experience and has proven he can and will do that. Look at the crucial goals he scored for Everton, Middlesborough and Pompey. He's only 28, there's plenty left in his locker. He'll score 30 goals next season if he plays a full season.
Bert Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Also did he not score against Norwich? No he didn't No he didn't. But did he score against Preston, Millwall, Derby, Bristol City, Watford, Middlesborough, Doncaster, and Ipwich? Yes he did. 11 goals in half the season is a great return.
Ric Flair Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 £3-4 milion for Yakubu or Graham or Morrison? Yakubu all day for me. It's actually embarrassing when you compare it. If we get Yakubu on a permanent then we know we're going places.
RumbleFox Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 We all know he will get goals...But 3 other things........ 1. Last season when it was time to come to the party and score against the meaningful teams at meaningful times and project us into the top 6 by scoring against them, it was Yakoldman who could not hit a cows arse with a banjo, a run of games... (Cardiff A, QprA,NorwichH) (((THAT'S))) when you REALLY need for him to HURT opposition and he missed good chances in all those games, that finished our season. 2. His terrible lack of movement inhibits our attacking very badly, we need to find away round that for next season should Yakoldman come back. 3. He's better than nowt. That's what you pay top dollar for and he never delivered (When it mattered) Good saves bad luck cut it how you like...When the pressure was really on to do for Leicester City......((He)) was nowhere. Hence 10th. So what would you rather have Yak scoring 2 against Peterborough at home or Yak scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win away at West ham ? Don't Be a smart arse and say both !.... and don't say who cares at the end of the day its only 3 points (Because one is vastly harder to achieve than the other) .....Which is my point. There are goals and there are important goals...... The yak DID NOT do it for us last season. Footnote: Not talking about anyone else here just the Yak. I went to school with this lad called Tom. He was a nice lad an' all. Very friendly but, yer know, not much going on upstairs. You know the type I mean. People used to say "yeah he's a lovely young chap just a little slow. Oh and dull. Dull as hell". As we neared our final years the lack of upstairs action (and downstairs if we're to be honest, he had a "problem with his man area") led to him becoming spiteful and hate filled. So picture it guys, now we had a slightly simple guy who found the world just a little too complicated who no longer had the redeeming feature of being, you know, a nice chap. Just thought I would share this story as I have not thought about old Tom "where's my banana?" Stapleton for years until I read your posts. Is that you Tom? Is that really you? Rumble. (As I know you are a little slow on the uptake let me translate the above story - You are a silly billy, Yakubu is great. Just shut up now you are embarrassing yourself). X
okie fox Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 I see the bullies are out in force today. If Yakubu is great, why hasn't Sven signed him? Why didn't Everton recall him last season when practically all their strikers were injured? Why did Swansea and Norwich opt for Graham and Morison instead of him?

All those slagging Yakubu (and I don't just mean his footballing talents I mean stating negative facts about his character) who have never even met him? Those bullies you must mean? You're right. Cretins. X

Do you really need to ask those questions? Well if you don't know, the answer to all three questions is money!
Mee Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Lets just face the facts. He could send us up. He is a goalscorer. Really want this to happen.
okie fox Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Do you really need to ask those questions? Well if you don't know, the answer to all three questions is money! So you admit there are better strikers available for the same money?
Ric Flair Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 So you admit there are better strikers available for the same money? haha, there's not though! Danny Graham and Steve Morison aren't fit to take Yakubu's mixed grill platter away from him once he's finished it. They were both signed for £3 million plus. Name me a better striker available for under £3 million and i'll be open for debate. The reason we've not signed him yet is because Sven has a budget and he needs to weigh up whether he can afford £3 million and then £20-30k a week as well. If he can afford that then BANG! 30 goals, no worries.
Webbo Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Sven has a budget and he needs to weigh up whether he can afford £3 million and then £20-30k a week as well. If he can afford that then BANG! 30 goals, no worries. If I genuinely thought he would get us 30 goals next season then I'd agree. If I saw him holding the ball up for others and defending from the front then fair enough but I saw too many games last season when he didn't look interested. I trust Sven to know his job, if he thinks he's worth the money then ok but it wouldn't disappoint me too much if he didn't. Awaits being called a disabled.

Simmo86 Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 OK, debate Nicky Maynard. He's four years younger, has a good goal-scoring record, and has some pace. Not available for under 3 million though is he!
okie fox Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 Not available for under 3 million though is he! He is out of contract in a year. So his value is dropping -- see http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/Bristol-City-boss-keen-sort-Nicky-Maynard-s-new/story-12737447-detail/story.html
Dan Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 They apparently want at least £5mil for Maynard, case closed.
i luv u foxes Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 how people on this forum could possibly turn there noses up at yakubu i do not know he would be a great signing and would do the business for us at around 2 million aswell we payed 5 mill for akinbyi you would think some of you lot are holding out for drogba feed the yak and he shall score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stevosevic Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 We'll be signing more than 1 striker, really think Sven is going into the season with Howard, Waghorn and Vassell? We know he doesn't rate at least one of them. We will sign at least 2 strikers, and who knows, it may be a young'un like Maynard.

Would love to see them both here, i think it will be one or the other though to be honest, dont think Sven would spend 5-7million on 2 players in the same position, who knows though, fingers crossed!!
marbelladave Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 I'm quite enjoying the debate about Yakubu. Strangely (very strangely....) I find myself agreeing with much of what Ibbosuk says. The Yak is the kind of player who scores goals when his team dominates, and does so pretty damn well. In tougher games he becomes a peripheral figure and does little for the team, more importantly, he seems to lose interest so is not at his best if and when a chance does come along. Even with those reservations he will probably score 20+ in a full season in the Championship and that itself may well be enough, so if the money is right I would say yes. Would not be devestated if it did not happen, I thought Vassell was very effective when he had the chance to lead the line for those few games around the new year, would be perfectly happy to give him the job.
londonfox_93 Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 If our strikers for next season are Yakubu, Heskey, Maynard and Vassell i would be delighted. Even if we dont manage to get either Heskey or Maynard, that front 3/4 as well as Gallagher would tear apart the championship.
