The news today is that Villa are likely to offer Ancelloti the manager job due to the ongoing illness of there current gaffer (Houliier)

I very much doubt there is substance in this - Abromovich is likely to have paid off Ancelloti and the deal would be that he can not work in the Prem for at least a year. A la Mourinho.

Lots of conjecture, but the combined wealth of the QPR board is comparable to the wealth in Man City. I reckon QPR will want a top manager and if Ancelotti had a choice he would stay in London, have lots to spend on players, maybe £40-50m in first season, and try to compete with Chelsea over the next two years. That would mean the 8/1 price on Warnock for the West Ham job would go down to evens or 2/1.

For any betting people out there, try these two trebles :- Ancelotti to QPR, Warnock to West Ham and either Huddink or Redknap to Chelsea.

Apologies, I vaguely remember reading it was 8 for the 2 and that was 6 for KN and 2 for KW.....not sure if it was ever officially released what it actually was.

from the Sun:

HARRY REDKNAPP has splashed £10million to sign Sheffield United kids Kyle Naughton and Kyle Walker.

Everton boss David Moyes pulled out of the race for the duo - leaving the path clear for the Tottenham chief.

England Under-21 right-back Naughton cost £7m and made his debut last night as a half-time sub in Spurs' 3-1 pre-season defeat at Aldershot.

He had become a magnet for a glut of Premier League big guns during his 40 games for the Blades.

Speaking exclusively to SunSport, Naughton, 20, revealed: "Moving to Spurs is definitely a dream, I'm glad to be here."

but then this from the BBC:

Tottenham have signed defenders Kyle Naughton and Kyle Walker from Championship side Sheffield United.

Everton had bid £5m to land Naughton, while Aston Villa were also believed to be admirers of the 20-year-old, who has instead opted for Spurs.

A fee has not been disclosed but could be close to the £10m mark for the duo.

Either way it definitely looks like Naughton was the most expensive of the two...

Probably because back then he was in the limelight a bit more due to being a bit older... :dunno:

I think 4million is a bargain. Great player with loads of potential. We could sell him for twice as much in a few years.

In all honesty I think we can easily afford it and Sven wants to, but we are just trying to price them down a bit. I reckon we'll probably get him for around £3million. If not us, someone else will.

With their Indian businessman gone (I think hes gone), they won't have anywhere near as much money as they did before.

They still have Mittal and Eccolestone who are a couple of the richest men in the country. I think they have plenty.

Oh and just looked it up and Mittal is the 5th richest man in the world worth a net of $29 billion :P

I thought Mittal had walked out on them a few days ago? Thats what I thought I read anyway.

It was another Indian guy. We all sound the same... haha just kidding

On a serious note, Spurs are gonna struggle to sell many players this summer.

Because they bought all their players for so much (e.g. Naughton was supposedly around £6M) they are trying to offload everyone at a ridiculously inflated price. So if Naughton does leave then I'd expect it to be towards end of the summer.

It wouldn't surprise me if Spurs are tryna recoup what they paid for Naughton hence Sven saying we may not be able to afford him.

Hopefully they'll realise nobody will buy their players if they keep asking for ridiculous fees.

If we were willing to pay 3 million for Waghorn then 4 million for Naughton surely isn't too steep, he is class and would be a great purchase

Exactly. Waghorn is a great little player and probably worth what we paid assuming he gets on the pitch at some point, but Naughton is a class above the majority of players we have had over the last few years so for that price he is a bargain

just a shame we didn't actually pay £3m for waghorn ey?

I think shiv has hit the nail on the head, spurs will be overcharging because they overspend so much.

I wouldnt go over the 4m mark i would put in an offer with no flexabillity to it and see how tottenham react if they do reject ill go fo clyne who u would be able to get for half that price !! :chant::scarf:

Great post, all that needs to be said really.

we'll probably agree a 2.5m fee with 1m added on once we get promoted and then another 1m if he makes the international squad or something.

Spurs just want to try get the best fee possible for him. thats fair enough, really... we want to pay the lowest fee possible. thats football. They ask for too much, we release a statement saying we wont pay that much and we meet in the middle somewhere. Its all part of the game.

If the fee was to be that much QPR would take him if they ask for 4m straight forward i think we will be the only team that would pay tht much for him ? :chant::scarf:

According to The Sun, QPR are set to have Kyle Walker on loan next season so this should mean they won't be interested in buying Naughton so it should now just be us who are after him.

Posted

Well you can only play one at once and if Naughton has a few brain cells he'll decide to go to Leicester.

How do you know only us and QPR were interested. I'm sure there's a few others as well that would want his services.

What's stopping them having both?

would Naughton or Walker want to sit on the bench? Guess you could play one in a less familiar position but then wouldn't QPR just buy a more natural player to fill that role? IMO I can't see them catering for both players easily...
