The Documentary Thread

Recommended Posts

definately the planet earth one:

Also one presented by tony robinson on C4 a couple of years back (can't remember the name) - all about the major disasters in the earths history and how they've shaped the world as it is today.

Chemistry: A Volatile History (BBC) - very interesting, discovering the elements, people trying to introduce order, the conception of the periodic table etc.

Very difficult to watch but well worth it if you get the time.

It follows a family who were obsessed with home video and who recorded themselves near endlessly, in particular through the father of the family (and one of the sons) being charged with child molestation.

As I said, not an easy watch. Probably not something I'd have even considered if it hadn't been mandatory in my first year at uni but I was glad I saw it really. Dark, though.

The Two Escobars

Absolutely brilliant documentary, Colombia's drug lord almost single handidly made Colombia a footballing powerhouse in the early 90s.

Jumps from Pablo Escobar (the drug king ping) to Andres Escobar (the Colombian national team captain and country's golden boy) and how fate brought them together with fatal consequences.

The Cove.

Bloody Japanese slaughtering dolphins and selling it off as whale meat despite the high mercury levels!

"Yuki Abe...... He'll eat your f***ing dolphin!"

Saw that a while ago, couldn't believe the scenes at the end :(

Found a new found love of dolphins after that film

Just watched this documentary thanks to your post. Was utterly crazy and a real eye opener into that world. Quite graphic in places as well with the violent footage.
