Bryn Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 I reckon King will lie deeper, Danns will push forward. King's a more intelligent player with a broader range of passing.
Haydos Posted 28 June 2011 Posted 28 June 2011 I reckon King will lie deeper, Danns will push forward. King's a more intelligent player with a broader range of passing. Kings fine just sitting and picking his moments to go forward. I still rarely see him playing higher up in the hole and dictating play. I find it odd how people see him as an attacking mid just 'cause he's a regular on the scoresheet. Personally I see Wellens as more attacking.
ajthefox Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 I'm a little worried people are happy to have a front line of consisting of CMS, Nugent and Gallagher. If we have a front three, then we are relying on the middle man for the bulk of the goals and if it's a top two there ideally should be one getting 20+ and the other playing a more supporting role. Either way I think we need a spearhead for the attack such as either Maynard or Yakubu who are more proven goalscorers at this level. I certainly would not be that confident if our starting 11 next season was the 3 I mentioned.
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 All nice thoughts, but we should be realistic - at the moment we've not signed a striker and it's by no means nailed on that either Mackail-Smith or Maynard would come here even if we agreed fees with their clubs. Maybe we should put a team together with what we have at the moment.... Schmeichel Peltier Bamba Hobbs/Tunchev Berner Abe Danns King Gallagher Waghorn Vassell Subs: Weale, Neilson, Wellens, Moreno, Oakley, Dyer, Moussa, Howard Looking at that lot, we should be a little less cocky until some of the paper talk turns to reality. Goalkeepers are OK and, assuming we add Masilela at left-back, then that's full-backs sorted (even if I don't want to see Neilson in a Leicester shirt ever again). I'd be surprised if Hobbs or Tunchev play regularly for us again (for different reasons) so I'd say we need two centre-backs. Wellens is unlucky to miss out in centre-mid so we're OK there (and will hopefully not have to suffer Oakley). Not convinced Gallagher or Vassell are wingers, but between them, Moussa/Dyer, maybe Schlupp and overlapping full-backs I think we're OK out wide. We are lacking for centre forwards though as I think Howard would struggle to have another effective season in him and certainly not as a regular starter. I think Waghorn can be a decent player in this league but I'd say we need two of Mackail-Smith, Nugent, Maynard and Yakubu (assuming no-one leaves) or one plus a good right winger (to move one of Vassell and Gallagher to a more regular central role). IF we do get say, St Ledger, Mee, Mackail-Smith and Nugent (or equivalents) then I think we're on for a good season under Sven. They would seem pretty realistic targets. If any of the more remote speculation has a shred of truth - the likes of Heskey, Andy Johnson, Whittingham or the North Korean guy - I'd love to see them to add something a bit extra, but it seems like Sven is carefully putting together a solid and seasoned Championship side in the same way that QPR eventually did.

Nick Posted 29 June 2011 Posted 29 June 2011 I fancy a rotation policy (assuming we play Nugent right wing) of CMS, YAK, MAY, WAG.
millzi Posted 30 June 2011 Posted 30 June 2011 I fancy a rotation policy (assuming we play Nugent right wing) of CMS, YAK, MAY, WAG. Rotation isn't always good though, players lose form and morale, look at what it did to Weale last season, he was playing pretty well then he gets dropped for Ricardo and when he comes back he was a complete mess. I'd rather have 2 strikers up front that play the majority then 1 on the bench that plays the odd game and comes off the bench most games.

Sven wants player with a high lowest level and a lot of confidence.
